Is this problem already known?
Yep.
If you use the search function you will get plenty of post complaining about similar problems

Can anyone explain?
Size of the file is dependent on the information in that file. 1080 interlaced @ 30fps has the equivalent of 1080x1920x30 pixels per second = 62208000 pixels to encode. For 720p @ 60 fps it is 720x1280x60 = 55296000 pixels to encode. This is quite similar and hence in Digital Television broadcasts in HD there is some who use 720p others who use 1080i.
Anyway now you must consider that not every pixel is encoded...this would be huge task so a compressor is used to make the amount of information more manageable. H264 (AVC & MPEG4) is the often used one in consumer cameras at the moment. Depending on how much information the compressor is told to "save" the larger the file becomes. So at 24Mbps the file size is larger but arguably better quality for the same resolution than 17Mbps.
PD9 720p profile is around 24Mbps and the 1080i is 17Mbps hence the larger file size in the 720p profile. If you use 1080i (24Mbps) the file size would have been similar.

Also, would there be any improvement in quality if I rendered it in 1080p. Is that even possible?
The problem would be that the frame rate would have changed from 30fps to 24fps and you may experience judder on panning.
I suggest using the PanaSD9 (which I also own) you should render it 1080i 24Mbps . Unfortunately SVRT does not work with the SD9

I cannot test a PD8 project but importing jpeg files which have been rotated by other software display correctly for me in PD9.
A comment on PD8 projects being opened in PD9: there have been several small compatibility issues which result in odd behaviour once opened in PD9 (or that is my feeling reading many posts).

Yep, mentioned several times (may have been in the beta forum) and a few work around fixes.

Be aware that although you can edit and render in 108p60, you need the means to play it. You cannot send it back to the TM700. You cannot burn it to Bluray specs (only allows 1080i60 or 1080p24). So that leaves a good mediaplayer or PS3 (which has been hit or miss for some I believe). The newer Samsung Bluray players can play them off USB/SD card.
Anyway just have a think about the final product of your hard work.
That said the TM700 is fantastic. I thought the Pana SD9 was great but the TM700 is unbelievable.

Ahh yes, probably transport stream dumped directly from DTV transmission? I assume DTV is mpeg4 in German?
I have had trouble with transport streams from digital transmission. Not very good headers on the files I'm afraid. One of my applications says files are 30 mins but happily plays 2hrs of video. Lots of other niggling problems as well.
You could try remuxing with tsMuxer or streamclip to clean up the file.

I have been using the concept of a "junk track" since moving to PD9 and once you have incorporated it in your editing style it it is invaluable IMO.

Where are you importing from? ie file on HDD, DVD, SD card etc

TV safe zone is pretty irrelevent to most people who now own flat screen panels. It is really a left over from analogue transmission and CRT technology.
That said, many flat screen TVs still have a small degree of scaling as default (mine does which drives me crazy - keep having to toggle to full screen) but it is usually only in the order of 2.5%.

I guess my real question is: How do I get PD9 which resides on the C Drive to access and default to saved works on the secondary drive?
Thanks again everybody.
Pretty easy.
In Open Powerdirector:
File>Preferences
Preferences Dialogue box opens.
Click on "file" tab (6th down on left)
Default locations can then be changed to where you like.
(edit : 56 seconds too slow )

I have a 23" as my primary screen and a 24" 1080P LCD for my secondary. I run the PD window on the primary and my open folders & Splash Lite as my preview screen on the 24".
Recommend dual screen set up.

This has been known for some time. You need to do a contrived edit on a video track and then simply undo then the audio changes will be saved.

My reply would be that the list of "idiosyncrasies" during beta testing was so long it became unmanageable. Most serious problems were ironed out but plenty of quirks remain.

No doubt about it Kevin, you are a true Prince amongst us plebs, well done mate.
For several weeks now I have begun to suspect Kevin...... he has this "cover story" of being a ferry captain, puttering the waterways of beautiful Maine (which I have visited a couple of times and must say it is beautiful). HOWEVER I am now under the opinion he is a "plant" from the newly formed Videoholics Anonymous whose aim is to help unsuspecting videoholics by reducing the time away from their wives, children, loved ones in an attempt to improve their health and wellbeing and to overcome the depressive effects inherrent of NLE addiction. Altruism indeed!

How were you able to regain your youth, Mr Newbie???

New lease of life courtesy of change of email stuff up. Don't mind really as I missed PD8 so perhaps fitting I was "demoted" in retribution

When I watched it the first time, by default, I was viewing it in 380p. Then watched in 1080p. WOW, very impressive images. I'd love to have that Panasonic TM 700.
If you think that looks good you should see what the TM700 does before Youtube trashes it!!

I like it!!

Firstly, I had been trialing on my old XP system and two days ago I got my new Windows 7 setup.
After installing the trail version of the software it won't recognise or add the DivX codec for compressing files
for production to AVI. Any ideas?
.
A simple search of the forum for divx will bring up this thred and others.

Is this sorted when you install the Full Version or is it a major flaw?
McDave.
Major flaw in my opinion.

Might be "interesting" for us but a PITA for poor PaulSmith_21
Just goes to show (again) how disorganised the consumer HD market is

Always worth a try anyway
