Hi Neil,

This recent time I had mp4.'s in timeline when editing.
Rendered to mp4, best quality. SVRT kicked in, thought I'd give it a go.
PD rendered,saved, said everything ok.
Well- black, but audio played.
Rendered again, unticked SVRT- set to "high quality".
This time ok.

Other times, I have to switch between HD-,high-, and normal preview resolution to
have preview play ok and in sync with timeline scrubber and not freeze.
(Not because preview is black.)

I get this same problem.

I don't know if this will help but some more info.

When you select SVRT as an option it renders the first few seconds correctly but then it really speeds up and rockets through the remaining 95%. I though WOW that is really quick render. But alas the picture is blank from the point at which it suddenly sped up.

This only happens for me on mp4 at HD resolutions. Which is the only one I intend to use.

This workaround seems OK (to use the slower rendering) But a fix would be a lot better so that the faster SVRT rendering can be used.
Is there a fix.

Was this a problem in version 8 and can you download a trial of that version?

If there is I will go from trial to full purchase. If there isn't then I see no advantage over AVS4YOU and will go with that as it is a lot cheaper.

Thanks

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help. Adrian provided this solution in another thread and it works.

Quote:
Quote: My interpretation is that PD uses differing video overlays when viewing the timeline and the media library, which explains the differing results often seen by editors, and the sometimes odd behaviour of clips in the timeline ??

Can't remember the exact details but I had consistent problems in beta testing with black previews/unable to screen capture/ etc etc.

The only solution that I found that consistently worked was to change the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\PowerDirector\9.0\

Key VideoRenderer

Default value = VMR7
Change to VMR9

Change it at your own risk.

Couldn't see/didn't experience any downside but........

With PD9 2330 VMR7 seems to work fine, but I have changed my motherboard in the interim!!

Cheers
Adrian

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of knowledgeable people there are on this Forum.

Thankyou Adrian you are an absolute legend. IT HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM

Thanks also to Robert for the Ashes encouragement

That did not solve my issue.
Maybe mine is different.
The preview screen is not the issue as it just says SVRT 3 in the preview screen.
But the movie file produced is blank after a few seconds of video. Sound is fine.
When rendering the progress bar moves at a steady pace and then speeds up very quickly and races to the end in just a few seconds. It is from the point that the rendering speeds up that the images are missing from the finished movie file.

I believe your issue is not the same. Neil had an issue with his preview screen in the edit window failing to display the timeline contents. Your issue is related to production preview and production failure.

I suggest you post under a new thread to allow folk to find your post and suggest solutions.

Cheers
