To the poster above, I wasn't aware iv was underlining all my text, there's no need to be pushy to show me up, I am over 60 and on oxy pain medications for post cancer op complications. Nothing has changed here in 10 years and I'm a bit long in the tooth to be spoken down to. I have a day job and this is my 1st post in years but I can see it was a bad mistake. Enjoy your day, Kindest, Stephanie
Hello and thank you. The reason I posted here is because I need the android edition AND the Windows PD18 but wondered if it would be cheaper to buy PD18 outright with a lifetime license and then subscribe to the android editor OR get them both in a package. I've just come to bed, I'll check back in the morning, thank you, Kindest, Stephanie
I bought PD9 way back and LOVE Power Director to bits but want to start editing on Android AND my Laptop but I'm confused as to what package is the cheapest and best ? I NEED PD18 for Windows but need an editor for my Samsung phone and tablet so both Action Director AND Power Director ANDROID look very cool but which way do I buy these ? I don't have a large commercial YouTube channel but have an average size YouTube channel for fun and money is of the essence having just shelled out NZ $600 for PreSonus Studio One Professional. Please advise which app and package I need, please ? And much gratitude
This is just for informational purposes based on my personal observations of late with PD9.

I run XP Home, SP3,Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.8 Ghz, 3 Gigs RAM and 630 Gbs Free Disc Space.

For the most part of the year I have had a periodical crash at start up of which has also knocked out my sounds volume (I did start another thread on that one a long time ago) but more recently CyberLink found a conflict on my system and modified a PDR.exe for me of which solved the 'knocking out of the sounds volume' problem but the periodical crash at start up remained.

I did notice that alot of the start up crashes happened first thing in the morning when I started up PD9 and then after that all was sweet for the rest of the day .. It felt like some crucial element was perhaps missing from PD9 and that by the 1st crash happening it then, perhaps, put back the element it was missing ?

But anyhow's, I have wondered for some time if PD9 actually 'needs' the PD9 contents in the 'OS Temp folder' to function correctly and I also 'wonder' if deleting the 'apparently' dead entries in the Registry with Glary Utilities has contributed to this start up crash problem ?

I don't know too much about computers but it seems to me that PD9 'might' differ somewhat to other programs I have when it comes to OS Temp files and folders and the Registry ? .. I mean I had 3 Gigs in the OS Temp folder some time ago and after intensive googling I decided that it was okay to ditch it all but I don't do that on a regular basis .. But I used to check the registry on a regular basis and clean the small amount of dead entries I have there ..

But I still had my suspicions that PD9 needs EVERYTHING that says PD9 on regardless of of whether it was a dead entry or not. Even Cyberlink checked my Registry and said it was all okay but I still had my doubts.

So then I upgraded to patch 3305 and ended up with a pile of new problems so I 'RE-installed PD9 using the CL removal tool and put it back to the 2930 build but THIS TIME I didn't delete anything from the OS Temp Folder OR the Registry that belonged to PD9, or indeed Cyberlink.

And..touchwood, for the past wee while my PD9 has NOT been crashing at all at start up and is running pretty damned good for once ..

So I'm kinda wondering if anyone else has noticed this with PD9 and perhaps this 'could' be the issue for start up crashes for 'some' people ?

So from now on I'm not deleting anything from Cyberlink or PD9 or even Power2Go from the registry or OS Temps folder because it seems to affect the software's performance in my case .. Based on my observation over the past few months or so ..(and those registry/temps delete actions don't affect any of my other programs)

Enjoy your day ..

Stephanie.

Hello, I type this purely for the possible benefit of others.

This afternoon I tried another sci-fi episode in the same manner I've always done and the same problems occured as yesterday so I re-installed PD9 with the CL removal tool and installed only up to build 2930 and then did the same procedure with the same episode parts but this time the results were totally perfect (as has been for a long time)

So for me patch 3305 is a no go for the above reasons and I am happy to have my PD9 running smoothly again.

I was always with the belief (maybe thru ignorance) that one 'had to' update to the most recent patch/build to gain the best performance from PD9 but I'm not sure that is true anymore. In future I may update to any patch that I know will assist in any errors I may have with PD9..But by that time I guess PD10 will be out ! (yay, we can do this all again LOL)

Stephanie.
I upgraded to patch 3305 on my PD9 the other day and edited my usual Sci-Fi movies today and encountered 2 errors that have never happened before.

For the past 4 or 5 months I get 5 parts of a 45 minute episode and import them to the timeline and produce an MPEG2 and do this procedure with 2, 45 minute episodes. I then burn the 2 MPEG 2's to 'Folder' and then burn to disc with Power2Go.

I have had no problems whatsoever previous to me applying the 3305 patch upgrade.

During today's process one of the movies produced audio only for the 1st part of the 45 minute episode and so I had to repeat the whole process again. On the 2nd attempt it was okay.

During the burn to folder process PD9 gave a burn error code @ 21% with 'insufficient' storage space and this has Never, ever happened whilst burning to folder. (that has only ever happened burning to disc)

So I had to reboot the pc and try again and on the 2nd attempt it was successful.

I will be editing and burning the usual Sunday Sci-Fi entertainment with PD9 next Sunday and if the same happens again I will consider reinstalling PD9 without patch 3305 as my PD9 system was working perfect beforehand (grr)

I run Windows XP home, SP3, 669 Gbs Freespace, Intel Pentium, 2.8 Dual Core and had just got everything near perfect.

All caches are cleared, the system is good and has been defragged.

Anyone here have any 3305 similar errors ?

Happy Sunday,

Stephanie.
I've just disabled the UpdatePDRShortcut in startup to try and fix a periodic Runtime Error on PD9 startup and it all works okay so far but will post if anything adverse happens.

Stephanie.
I gave up burning to disc a long time ago because of continued disc errors.

So I've been burning to folder first and then burning the vob files folder to disc with Power2Go 5. (as advised on another thread)

And I have to say it's been successful burning for a long time with no errors.

Stephanie.
I live in New Zealand so that says PAL.

Our Fujifilm Finepix camera says NTSC.

Soo, what do I set PD9 to ?

I've had it on Pal for a while, PD9 converting the Fujifilm clips onto the timeline and it's not too bad.

Today however, I reset PD9 to NTSC to match the camera.

And then, without thinking, I went to burn our usual 2 episodes of Dark Skies (45 mins each) and when I came to the Burn section of PD9 it said that my nearly 3 gigs of movies was in fact nearly 6 gigs and that was on my usual HQ quality setting !

Soo, I reset the burn quality to Standard and that brought it down in size to fit on the disc.

But It took a while to figure out what had happened and just out of curiosity I reset NTSC Back to the Pal setting whilst the 2 episodes of Dark Skies were still loaded in PD9 and that brought the total movie size in PD9 down by 3 gigs and that was in High Quality.

Soo, although it sounds like common sense with the pal / ntsc settings I can imagine this would be a frequent error by users with PD9 and disc space ?

Anyway, I've reset PD9 back to PAL but I know the next time we import a clip from our camera PD9 is going to question it. And if I set it back to NTSC then our usual movies are no longer going to fit on a disc in HQ.

Anyone here got a conflict between country setting and camera setting and what do you find works best ?

Stephanie.
Just thought I should report that my PD9 has just crashed on start up, knocking out the sound, and that is with SB 5.1 VX disabled and I am currently using my Realtek HD Audio.

Soo, that was 4 days before it crashed and once again PD9 started up sweet on the 2nd attempt.

None of my other programs are affected in anyway and this crash is the only problem to date I have on my pc.

Stephanie.
A good morning to all and I'm really going to tempt fate here with this update !

It's now been 3 whole days since I made my Realtek HD Audio the default audio and I also disabled my Creative SB 5.1 VX.

I have started up PD9 at every opportunity whilst I've been working in the same room and I have to report that PD9 has not even crashed the once ! So there, I said it staring fate square on in the face !

I've also started PD9 under every resource situation I could think of ie: scanning system with ESET, downloading from youtube and PD9 opens like a dream every time. And I've been opening PD9 maybe well over 20 times per day.

Soo, I will leave it here for the now and give it a while longer before I can say yay, I think the problem has been cracked with the help of you good people here...

So what is on my inquisitive mind is why would my SB 5.1 VX make my PD9 crash and Not my Realtek ?

But It's not so important I guess and all I strive for is PD9 / Computer harmony...and I seem to have it ...for the now !

I Will give it a while longer.

Stephanie
Hi Carl and Fred and many thanks for your contributions here.

Cyberlink had me change my default audio from Creative SB 5.1 VX to Realtek HD Audio yesterday to see if PD9 still crashes periodically at start up only.

I also supplied them with the event viewer crash log from my system.

Soo, i started PD9 up maybe a dozen times yesterday on and off and everything was sweet but it only happens every 3 or 4 days so we shall see.

I understand they are in Taiwan but I do get frustrated sometimes when I'm repeating the very basics of the problem.

I have many programs on this pc, inclusive of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum HD and TrakAx and the start up crash periodically with PD9 is the 'Only' problem I have and I guess reading other member's PD9 problems here perhaps I ought to be thankful for a periodical crash.

I'd like to point out that I don't have any problems whatsoever with doing anything at all with PD9 in the editing / creating sense and I'm really thrilled with the software and love it to bits over my other 2 video editing programs plus all the others I have trialled. PD9 IS the bees knees for me and I think this is why I get soo upset and frustrated when things aren't right.

Soo, yes, I will have to upgrade my computer but not at this moment as I don't have the readies so perhaps towards the end of the year but goodness knows what specs I would need for PD9 ?

Anyway, in the meantime I will see how far I can get with my Realtek HD Audio sounds without PD9 crashing every few days.

Many thanks.

Stephanie.
Okay, can Dafydd or someone who is head of the forums take up this case to Cyberlink Technicians ?

I wrote to them a couple of times yesterday and submitted a ticket and they asked me a whole lotta questions and asked for my DXDiag and told me to change the display to 16 bit etc etc and so I did, But I did more. I submitted not only my DXDiag but also the dump file when my PD9 crashes and I wrote and told them in GREAT DETAIL about the problem here.

And..my PD9 Crashed this morning, knocked out the sounds, first thing and so I guess I can discount setting my screen to 16 bit colour.

But not only that I got 2 responses from Cyberlink Tech asking me to supply a DXDiag and the dump error file (which I've already done) AND they are asking me where I bought my PD9 from and where did I download it from AND whether itz a 32 bit or 64 bit software ? I mean, it only says in my message to them god knows how many times ???

Soo, this is crazy and can Dafydd take this up or have I got to answer, and re answer and perhaps thirdly answer the same basic questions to Cyberlink Tech hoping this may get sorted sometime ?

Stephanie.
I hunted high and low for Creative SB 5.1 VX Drivers last night and it seems that the drivers I have installed are the latest for "XP" despite the fact they are 2008.

There is an updated SB 5.1 Driver on Creative that was issued in 2009 but that is 'ONLY' for Vista and Windows 7. And yes, I tried it too and obviously it said my computer system was not supported. And on DriverMax there were several Creative SB5.1 VX drivers available but the most up to date version is indeed the 2008 driver I have installed for XP.

Soo, I disabled both sound systems last night just out of curiosity and PD9 opened up with no issues at all. In fact PD9 was opening like a rocket yesterday and that was with nothing else running AND with everything running....made no difference it just booted up quick and smooth. And this morning PD9 booted up no problem whatsoever.

Soo, I just don't know. Of all the problems I've had with the computer and my programs this year this PD9 Error is the only issue left. There has to be a reason but why is it only every 3 or 4 days that it crashes ? I kinda half expect the same problem with PhotoDirector 2011 as it too has the splash screen but everything is tickety boo there. So maybe something with the audio in PD9 is conflicting somewhere when the exe is clicked ? (details of what i mean in link below)

I came across the link below last night. It's not about PowerDirector but it is about programs crashing. It is written by / for Steinberg Cubase Audio. I'm hoping that posting it here is not against rules and regs but if it is I will delete it from this thread.

I wondered if the mentions of the words 'Steinberg Cubase' on the page could be substituted for 'Cyberlink PD9' ?
It certainly got me thinking about what might happen when I click the PD9 exe.

I was also wondering if the PD9 Crash problem I have periodically is listed on the Steinberg page...somewhere.

Anyway, here's the link.

Soo, after disabling my Realtek audio my PD9 has been opening and starting up real sweet for 4 days ..

Until Today !

Just opened up PD9 and it hung at the splash screen and then Crashed PD9 with the same windows error reporting box..and knocked my system tray audio volume from nearly full to off ! ..le sigh !!

And of course after the program closed it then opened perfectly on the second attempt. As per usual !

Soo, I'm at a loss as to what it might be ? Unless it's my SB 5.1 audio ?

And why does it only do it once or twice a week ?

Yet another mystery to be solved..

Ideas anyone ?

Stephanie.
Hi there Barry and many thanks for your input.

I made a Power2Go 'how to' file with your instructions and will be following them up next week.

Stephanie.
Hi Gary, thanks for that suggestion and I have just been to device manager and disabled my Realtek Audio as I wasn't using it.

Checked that all my sounds and video are still working

Booted up PD9 (didn't crash) and all is okay there.

Soo, I guess it's a case of waiting now to see if PD9 still crashes at start up periodically ?

And if it does then maybe it's my SB 5.1 VX Audio at fault ?

I will report back as and when.

Stephanie.
okay, i've run the sound blaster update on my pc and i'm not actually convinced it has updated the driver (1478 was the original according to the update service) and i think it was more orientated to installing creative's latest products !

and as for realtek audio well I'm afraid I found the site to be a nightmare with soo many different options and products that I actually just don't know what I'm doing.

My Realtek HD Audio panel says it is Driver 5.10.0.5998 installed but I cannot see anything close to that online and I'm actually worried about installing rogue drivers or even wrong drivers.

I don't have this problem with Intel as they scan and tell me Exactly what is what and what I need.

Perhaps I should run my Belarc Advisor to see if I can make any sense of the drivers. And I'm also confused as my Realtek control panel says 'Gigabyte Technology' so where do I look for updated drivers ? On Gigabyte website or Realtek website ?

Totally Confused..

Stephanie.
