I use a Dazzle capture device and use the supplied pinacle software with it to capture. I then import the video to PD9.
Its the only way I have found to work. Using Pd9's fix and enhance features the videos look great. I use video enhancement and video denoise.
Thanks for the link. I'm still a little bit confused. I have read that video quality should be better without Hardware Acceleration turned on, as long as you have the proper hardware. Since you said my computer was powerful enough, should I uncheck both options under the Hardware Acceleration tab?

OPTIONS

1) Enable Cuda to speed up video effect video render
2) Enable hardware decoding

THANKS !
Sure, I am editing Hd Video from my Sony HDRx500.

System Specs:

Intel I7 870 2.93 GHZ processor
Windows 7
Pd 9
Nvidia Gtx 275
8 Gb Ram

Hello,

I was wondering if I should enable hardware acceleration in PD9. I see 2 options under Hardware acceleration

1) Enable Cuda to speed up video effect video render
2) Enable hardware decoding

Should I enable one or both? or neither?

Windows 7
Pd 9
Nvidia Gtx 275
8 Gb Ram

Thanks !!!
Hello,

I have captured some old VHS footage which is in 4:3 Format. I would like to produce the movie, and am not sure if I should produce it in 4:3 or 16:9.. Also, If I make a DVD to watch on a HD widescreen Tv, should I burn it in 4:3 or 16:9?

I am very confused by this subject and thank you all in advance for any info.

Thank You

I would also love to see such a video. Thanks!
Sorry I meant 2TB. I have a high speed cox cable internet access. I did not know that Carbonite only backs up whats on your main drive and not the external one. That almost seems to defeat the whole purpose. Does anyone have any experience with Carbonite?
Hello,

I was wonderig if anyone has any experience using Carbonite's online backup. Does it slow your system down?
I have 2gb of data, will that take forever to backup online?

I like the idea of having online backup in case of fire, flood, etc, but would love some feedback.

Thanks!
Hello,

I have tons of footage from 1996-2011 that I am in the process of editing and producing to my hard drive. I am also making DVD's from the edited footage. Everything is also backed-up to an external 2 TB hard drive.

My question is should I keep the original footage? I takes up loads of disk space. Will I need it in the future even though I have the produced files saved in MP4 ior H.264 format? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I was wrong, I have a 2 TB hard drive that is almost full. What confuses me about production is that PD says that MP4 is the highest quality, unless I'm reading it wrong. So, should I still produce in h.264 for my sony HD footage?
I am doing some basic editing with 1 video track, some, PIP, and some inserted photos. I am confused about the "link all tracks" button in preferences. Could someone explain the pros and cons of using it?

Thanks !
I was wondering what file format I should produce the following footage to get the best quality.

1) First I have hours of captured footage from my old VHS tapes. I have started to use MP4 with good success, but wonder if there is a better option for quality and file size.

2) Next I have current footage taken on my Sony HDRV500 in Full HD. Should I use MP4 or H.264 or AVC?

Also, after producing the files should I keep the original footage? I've already filled a 2GB external hard drive and am wodering if I am doing something wrong using to much hard disk space.

Thank you in advance !
I downloaded a free program called IMGBURN. IN PD first burn to folder, then burn those files to disk with IMGBURN. I find it much more reliable than PD's burn.
Thanks for the help guys. I download IMGBURN, a free burning utility. I can now burn to disk in PD and use IMGBURN to make my DVD's.
No i purchased PD9. I have no idea why the burn to disk option is grayed out. I can use IMGBURN, a free DVD burning program, with no problem so I know its not my DVD drive.
Hello, I am trying to burn my current project to a 8.5 GB Dvd. For some reason under the create disk tab the "burn to disk option" is grayed out and I can not select it. My only option is to burn to folder. How do I burn directly to a disk from PD9? I have searched the forums and havent found anyone with the same problem. I would rather not have to use another program to burn my project. Please help.

I use a dazzle capture device and it works great.
Hello, I curently use a desktop for my video editing with PD8.

I am buying a new computer soon. My question is can a new laptop with windows 7 and an I7 processor handle HD editing as well as a desktop. My sony HDRx500v records in full 1920 HD. My movies are generally 1-2 hours long.

My main concern is if my video quality and speed of editing. Will my videos look better on a desktop? Are there any drawbacks to a laptop, besides future upgradability?
Hello,

I will be buying a blu-ray burner in a year or so. What do I do with all my Hd footage in the time being? I have a Sony Hdrx-500v. I record with full HD in 1920 x 1080. I dont want to lose quality by burning to DVD's. I know blu-rays will become cheaper in the future.
Do I just save the raw footage? I would like to edit the raw footage and save it on an external hard drive for future use. Do I produce, and if so, under what settings to keep my full HD 1920x1080 quality?

Also, I have been hearing about external hard drive media players. Would that be a better alternative than eventually burning to blue ray? I dont know much about these media players and could use some advice.

I love I love Powerdirector 8 and thank all of you in advance!
