Hi again all, I have a question about Analog/tape Camcorders. I have a Sony Video 8 Handycam.
First I would like to know why when playing back on the television straight from the output of the Camcorder, why the tracking is flipping around and takes a while to straighten out and also why the color goes off and gradually comes in after minutes of playing a tape. There is no tracking on my Television. I also have recorded recently and it stays in all black and white. Is the unit just getting old?
If the camcorder is becoming faulty would the tape still show color in a newer camcorder?
Next I am looking to purchase a video capture card/analog to digital converter to get the camcorder material onto Powerdirector.
Is Firewire essential or would some USB be Ok? Looking to spend less than $100 would be preferable?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi Soloman

Sound like the tape in your camera is at fault.

Next I am looking to purchase a video capture card/analog to digital converter to get the camcorder material onto Powerdirector.

Power Director has a capture function to 'capture' video tape thereby making it playable in PD8.

Happing editing

Best Regards

Neil

If you have a newer digital camcorder, it may have a converter function.
That's really cheap. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

I don't have a digital camcorder and the tape i used was brand new and recorded in black and white. All of the old tapes I have had for years were played back with tracking issues and color issues.

As far as i know Without a digital camera the tape has to be converted to digital before being captured by Power Director.

I had the same thing to do with some old VHS-C tapes. I played them back to my DVD-R recorder (that is, the recorder I use to record telly programs). It does the digital conversion straight onto DVD RW discs which I then read into PD. i7 980x; W7 Pro; 12GB; Nvidia GTX 285; 2x300G Velociraptors in Raid 0; 2x1.5TB Barracuda in Raid 1; 2TB WD Studio Ed.II (eSATA); NEC SpectraView Reference 2690 + MultiSync EA232
