Hello,

I have captured some old VHS footage which is in 4:3 Format. I would like to produce the movie, and am not sure if I should produce it in 4:3 or 16:9.. Also, If I make a DVD to watch on a HD widescreen Tv, should I burn it in 4:3 or 16:9?

I am very confused by this subject and thank you all in advance for any info.

Thank You

Windows 7
I7 processor
8 GB Ram
Thanks

Hi Maczkiab,

My only good suggestion is to test to see what YOU like. Load a 5-10 second clip into the timeline change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and produce it.

I film my hanggliding videos in 4:3 aspect ratio because it gives me the widest view with my camera. For me I can't stand the black bars on my screen so I change the aspect ratio in the edit screen to 16:9.

A couple of people have given me feedback that they can't stand the distortion where as for me it is much better than the black bars. So you see it is all a personal preference, so see how it looks to you.

Cheers

Coming from a VHS it will probably be 4:3, but do test it and see which you like better. You can do it in 16:9 and it will embed the black bars, but if you then play it on a 4:3 screen it will have black bars all around.

Beyond that it depends on how your television is set. It can stretch, zoom or play it with the black bars. __________________________________

In PD8 you can use the 'clip aspect ratio settings' and 'crop to convert to 16:9 aspect ratio' with no loss or distortion.

PD9 does not have this option - which is weird. I have reported this 'fault' to CL but to date have not heard back. Happing editing

Best Regards

To crop it to fit the full 16:9 screen, just drag the 4:3 clip to the sides until it fills the preview window. __________________________________
