Quote: There will be different resolutions. Which ones just depends one which format you choose. MPEG 2 has quite a few. AVCHD has a few less, but still several.

Many Thanks
Quote: You can always go back to your original project as long as you haven't moved the original videos. Just open the project to produce and experiment. There are so many options to choose from it is hard to suggest a setting or format.

I usually try to produce in the same format and resolution of the raw video and vary the bit rate if I need a smaller video in megabytes. So maybe that would be a good place to start.

Ok, thanks Robert.

Quote: When you produce the video, just choose a new resolution and that's what the movie will be when done. Just make sure the project is 16:9 or HD options won't be available in Produce.

Thanks.
Will there be a few resolution selections or do i have to manually type something in?

I only produced a video once to mpeg2 so I am uncertain.

Quote: So are you saying when you went to properties the video square did not have any information?

Regarding PD changing the resolution of videos you can do it when you produce the video by choosing a different resolution. I have done this a couple of times just experimenting with up scaling my 1280X720 video to 1920X1080 which are both 16:9.

I haven't tried going from 16:9 to 4:3 but I would say if your produced video is squashed you may have chosen to change a 16:9 video to 4:3.

Yes, I right-clicked the produced video and I could not find the resolution. I did find this strange.

Smugmug informs that they do 16:9 but need the resolutions I mentioned on my 1st post.

Would I be able to use PD8, go back to the original PD8 project and then re-produce to say Mpg2 video and choose the resolution from where-ever that feature is? Where do I select to change resolution from?

Quote: Hi Patrick,

If you want to find the resolution of your original video or the produced video just right click on the video in the Media room and check properties. The properties dialogue box will show the resolution.

I tried that yesterday on the produced video but the resolution was not in the properties. I'll have a look tonight but can PD8 convert to another resolution? If no, what can I use?

Thanks
Pat

Hi

Can we use PD8 to change a video resolution? I created a video file so I could upload of my online photo account (smugmug). The uploaded video is squashed. They do accept 16:9 format but the resolution must be either 1280x720 or 1920x1080.

I tried looking for the resolutio of my file in PD8 but can't seem to find it.

If PD cannot change resolution, what can I use to do this?

Thanks Kev.

Hi Tony
Thanks for your reply.

I am trying to use the same music througout. Where and how can I produce that batch of clips to a file?

If I use my own music, I could never sync it to the exact length to my clips.

I knew there was a better way. I was using the incorrect shortcut keys.

How do I reduce the volume of the background music so it dont drown out some of the sound of the video?

If different track for each clip, I just highlight that clip in the timeline and add the tracks?

I managed to use the Magic Music with a short slideshow (17 pics) and it works great. I did a Ctrl+Shift to select each picture.

In this same project, I also have about 20+ short videos which I'd also like to use Music Magic (I still cannot sync on my own with my mp3s to all the video clips) to sync background music to those short videos.

Is there a better way then using Ctrl+Shift to select all the videos in one go so I can add the background music?

Is there also a way to reduce the volume of the background music so it's not that imposing when the video is played?

Photonow is photo editing software which links in to PD.

How do I move an existing thread up the tree?

I replied with a 'bump' and the thread is still sitting on page 2.

It's subject is "Synching Music with Slideshow'

Thanks

Thanks arn123 for your details.

I have instances, more often though, that I do get a black box (when so called successfull) but no name. Just the black box. With those I cannot right click and modify.

Have anyone experience this?

Exactly same scenario Victor.

I just can't understand why it's so difficult to get the menu properly.

I do the same thing only I don't make any changes, just save it using the same name. Then I have two menus with the same name. I just remove the black one from disk and the other one works as expected.

I do that too but the frustrating this is why some appears as black boxes and some do not....in my case mostly do not

Quote: I think I found a part of the solution. When I do get the black box after downloading, I right click on the box and choose "modify". I make a slight change and click "OK". It asks me for a name and I name it to something else. And PRESTO, there it is.

I have this as a work-around too for black boxes but I don't understand is why most don't even turn up after successful installation as indicated by PD8. Very frustrating.

Good Morning.

I started a new project last night and I had a hell of a time trying to sync music to my slideshow. My slideshow is abot 2min 44 sec. I found an mp3 about 2mins 57s or something close. In the Music Preference tab, I have the Fade In/Fade Out checked. I adjusted the trim ( I thiink)..or was it the mark the start and end icons to no avail. The manual shows that this can be done but not how to do it. The background still stops abruptly even when I have Fade Out checked. Driving me nuts I spent about 1 hr trying to sync with no luck.

Finally I opted to use Music Magic instead. I adjusted the length of the music to match the length of the slideshow and it worked perfectly.

Would one kind sole please give me fool proof instructions on how to sync music to slideshow?

Many Thanks
Patrick

Hi Cap'n

I too have just started using PD8 just about a week ago and I have had no issues (fingers crossed) doing my first simple project except with using downloaded menus from Director Zone. I've found a work around though from someone on this forum by pretending to edit the file

I am still fumbling through PD8 but I'll get there
