I have had powerdirector for quite a few years now and I have had a butt full of their non-customer support. Everytime I upgrade my computer and have to load powerdirector on it. ..it is a circus to do so. I even bought the backup cd just so I wouldn't have to deal with their tech support. . .and the disks won't load. ..no setup file on this disk??? I called their tech support line and you have to enter some stupid code number that you have to find buried in their website. I finally got the number and then their phone system would not recognize my cell tones as I enter them and then it disconnects. One good thing that cyberlink is good at is taking your money...I must say their website is loaded with buttons everywhere for you to upgrade or to purchase their overpriced junk. So...i would like to switch to a company who supports their users. Thinking of Corel's software. ..anyone had experience with it?

I appreciate your reply. . .cyberlink on the other hand. . .I have no respect for them what so ever! Poor way of doing business in my opinion. I deleted the original download and re-downloaded it again just out of pure boredom. . .went through the install process again and low and behold it worked. I will give this a try. . .but. . .I don't have my hopes to high that PD will not hang up, glitch, freeze etc as the previous versions have. . .then having no tech support to call when you need help with their product, its very frustrating.
Thanks for your help. . .

I have PD 11 Deluxe installed on a another machine, I upgraded to a better machine and purchased the Ultra upgrade to 64 bit. When installing the program, it recognizes that this new machine has no previous version of PD on it, however, it asks for the key of a previous version, I enter it in and the setup wizard continues for a bit and then hangs. . .and won't go any further. You have to ctl-alt-delete to get it to stop? I shut down my anti-virus and attempted it again. .. still the same results. I have sent cyberlink an email asking support to call me. . .they haven't yet. They don't have a phone number you can call. . .what a joke. Wondering if someone on here might be able to help.
I thought about going on cyberlinks website and installing the old version on this new machine to see if that would remove the glitch during the install. . .however, I can't even figure out how to re-download the old version from the website. It seem about the only thing that works is the part where they take your money. . .then its all down hill from there. Anyone reading this thinking about buying this software.. .please.. .go somewhere else. . .its not worth it.

Cool...another question. . .I burned a MP4 file to a dvd and it played fine on the PS3. . .but. . .does it play full HD doing it this way?
|
|
I am thinking of not investing money into a dieing media. . .dvds and bluerays. . .I think I will just produce the movies in MP4 format, save them to my external hard drive that is hooked to my wireless network. . .watch the vids on the big screen via the play station. . .

Ok, thanks for the tip, that helps clear up the mystery. I have the deluxe version of PD11 and the AVCHD button is grey. . .my version must not allow that function. Once I get the AVCHD button working, and I get a movie edited in the time line, do you produce the movie to your hard drive, then create the disk from that file? Or...do you skip produce and create the disk?

I have a samsung HD camcorder that I believe records in MP4 (AVCHD) format? When I open the file on my computer it is an MP4 file. I create my movie in PD, then burn it to a DVD, the quality of the video is really bad. . .far below regular DVD quality? I then produced the movie in MP4 and saved it to my hard drive, then used another program that I thought would burn the file to a dvd in a movie format so the DVD player would read it. . .didn't work. DVD player doesn't recognize the file type? So. .. I am slowly realizing that figuring out how to share HD video is a nightmare. What are the options? Blue ray disks are expensive for home movies. . .looking for options and advise. Thanks. ..oh. ..and I did search the PD forums concerning this subject to no avail. ..any tips or advise would be appreciated.

Before purchasing PD 11, I asked if the program could create and burn HD video to a dvd, the answer was yes. Now after a stack of DVDs and failed attempts to figure out how to do it. . .I realize the subject is much more complicated. I spent hours searching trying to find info on how the process works, only to find that there are so many different file types that I am officially frustrated.
I have a basic samsung HD camcorder, which when I load the files onto my hard drive, the file type shows as MP4. When I create my video in PD and then to "create disc". ..the only quality option is MPEG2, HQ. . .when I burn the disk, the video is grainy and glitchy when played in my dvd player? Its poor quality, far from regular dvd quality. So, then I tried a different route, I produced the video in MP4 format and saved it to my hard drive. Then I burned it to a dvd, but my dvd player doesn't support the format? Obviously I am in way over my head, but, it is frustrating to think that 50 years ago we put a man on the moon and in 2012 we don't have an easy way to capture HD family videos and put them in a format that will play on standard dvds in HD? I am wondering if I need to bag the idea of using dvds as the media in the first place? How do you share your videos with less tech savy family members? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. .. its helping me hold on with my finger tips! I spent some time on youtube watching the vids. ..good info.
Here is one for ya. . .I decide to try out this music maker feature. . .get my video clip on the board. . .then click on the music thing, see the highlited music listed there. . .click on that. . .it appeared to load a music file on the edit screen. ..go to play. .. gives me a notice window that I need to "insert smartsound library cd"? Well. . .its hard to insert a cd when you downloaded the program off the web? What is up with this? What type of gyration do I need to go through now to figure this out? Below is all that is listed in the help menu about adding music. . .pretty lame.
Using audio clips allows you to add background music or a narrative voice-over to your movie. CyberLink PowerDirector provides two tracks for audio media (the Music and Voice Tracks), which you can use interchangeably. (No friggin duh, I would have never thunk it)
To add video clips or photos to the workspace, you can:
Click to add the audio clip to the Voice Track or to add the audio clip to the Music Track.
Drag one or more audio clips to a desired position in the Voice or Music Track. Audio clips can be added at any point in this track.
Right-click on a clip and select Add to Voice Track or Add to Music Track as required.
Note: Audio files can only be added to the workspace in Timeline view. If you drag an audio file to the workspace in Storyboard view, the workspace automatically switches to Timeline view.

Hey, you have to admit that the help feature with this program is very basic. I did manage to figure out that after the production was through, that it was saving the file in the library. . .which I didn't even discover until I had closed down the program, opened up the project file and bang. . .there were all the files that had been produced. I would say that this program is far from user friendly. . .there are some basic things that you just can't figure out without a lot of blood sweat & tears.
So. . .now I have saved my movie in WMV mode, the vid quality is terrible. So. . .where in the help menu can you find advise as to what format to use?
What do you recommend for basic facebook type videos?
Oh ya. . .and another thing. ..when you produce in mpeg2 mode, if you forget to tell the file destination it saves it in the library. Once in the library I could not get it out and into another file, so, I had to produce it again to save it in the file I wanted. What is up with this library deal? Once its in the library. . .you can't move it?

I got my movie all edited, now I want to simply save it as a WMV, go to the produce screen, run it through, then it never asks to save? It saves the project, but, how in thee hell do you get this thing to save the actual movie in a WMV file? Why does this have to be so difficult. ..? Windows movie maker may be lame, but, at least it makes sense.
The help option absolutely SUCKS. .. probably because they want you to have to pay for customer support. . .
