I got my movie all edited, now I want to simply save it as a WMV, go to the produce screen, run it through, then it never asks to save? It saves the project, but, how in thee hell do you get this thing to save the actual movie in a WMV file? Why does this have to be so difficult. ..? Windows movie maker may be lame, but, at least it makes sense.

The help option absolutely SUCKS. .. probably because they want you to have to pay for customer support. . .

Once you have your project edited etc. and saved as a project file (just to be on the safe side) you want to Produce it as a wmv.

SO you click on Produce up at the top, create a streaming file... you will see wmv as one of your options. There is a drop down for the dimensions etc. for that wmv. Once you have chosen that, you click next. At the top you name the wmv you want and then hit Start Rendering.

There are quite a few youtube videos that go over a lot of the features of PD, the thread it stickied at the top, BUT just in case..

here is the link.

The program from hell? I'd say everything was relative, Darrin - what about Iran, Burma, Afghanistan? Put it in context - then maybe pause to reflect on whether maybe - possibly - there is a remote chance that you may have missed something.

Actually - if you look at those tutorial videos, you'll find that they're EXTREMELY well made and helpful.

McClean - yours was the answer from heaven!

Hey, you have to admit that the help feature with this program is very basic. I did manage to figure out that after the production was through, that it was saving the file in the library. . .which I didn't even discover until I had closed down the program, opened up the project file and bang. . .there were all the files that had been produced. I would say that this program is far from user friendly. . .there are some basic things that you just can't figure out without a lot of blood sweat & tears.

So. . .now I have saved my movie in WMV mode, the vid quality is terrible. So. . .where in the help menu can you find advise as to what format to use?

What do you recommend for basic facebook type videos?

Oh ya. . .and another thing. ..when you produce in mpeg2 mode, if you forget to tell the file destination it saves it in the library. Once in the library I could not get it out and into another file, so, I had to produce it again to save it in the file I wanted. What is up with this library deal? Once its in the library. . .you can't move it?

I think that you will find that in addition to the video being saved in your library there is an actual video saved in either a folder called My Works directly on your C drive OR in the My Documents folder. If you look at the screen just prior to clicking on 'Start Rendering' there is an area at the top where you designate where your file goes. If you want it to go to a different place, then you can choose the folder there.

The drop down box when you choose wmv tells you what each setting is. I don't use PD for my wmv conversion and I don't output to wmv BUT if you read down the list, it gives you some of the uses for the wmv and some idea as to the quality of the output, this might help.

I am not sure where you are wanting to move the video. If you are wanting to move it from the library to the timeline or PIP, you should be able to. If you are wanting to move it out of the folder (that PD saved it in) you will have to delete that file from the timeline OR close the program, it will then release the file for moving. (assuming that is the problem)

It's important to understand that the stuff in the library ISN'T REAL. Those images are links to the real files on your PC. By default, when you produce something, it goes to your Documents/Works folder (as McClean said).

There are some very good video tutorials on producing files in different formats with PD7.

http://docs.cyberlink.com/event/PDR-gallery/play.jsp?nFileId=1293

and

http://docs.cyberlink.com/event/PDR-gallery/play.jsp?nFileId=1295 (for streaming files)

The best help available to you is (a) in those tutorial videos & (b) right here.

Thanks for the info. .. its helping me hold on with my finger tips! I spent some time on youtube watching the vids. ..good info.

Here is one for ya. . .I decide to try out this music maker feature. . .get my video clip on the board. . .then click on the music thing, see the highlited music listed there. . .click on that. . .it appeared to load a music file on the edit screen. ..go to play. .. gives me a notice window that I need to "insert smartsound library cd"? Well. . .its hard to insert a cd when you downloaded the program off the web? What is up with this? What type of gyration do I need to go through now to figure this out? Below is all that is listed in the help menu about adding music. . .pretty lame.

Using audio clips allows you to add background music or a narrative voice-over to your movie. CyberLink PowerDirector provides two tracks for audio media (the Music and Voice Tracks), which you can use interchangeably. (No friggin duh, I would have never thunk it)

To add video clips or photos to the workspace, you can:

Click to add the audio clip to the Voice Track or to add the audio clip to the Music Track.

Drag one or more audio clips to a desired position in the Voice or Music Track. Audio clips can be added at any point in this track.

Right-click on a clip and select Add to Voice Track or Add to Music Track as required.

Note: Audio files can only be added to the workspace in Timeline view. If you drag an audio file to the workspace in Storyboard view, the workspace automatically switches to Timeline view.

Things aren't going so well then???

While I try to muster up a response, can I suggest you take the f word out of your post. The moderator and membrs don't really appreciate that (especially the moderator). Just click on the edit button above your post.

Oh well - you're gone - too late! Earthling - prepare to meet thy doom!

Now - what's the music problem? All the tracks aren't there. That's right - some have to be purchased. There may be something missing from your setup. Send me a PM with your email and I'll post the Full Spectrum Setup Launcher to a shared site. That might correct your problem.

The other thing to remember is that - up at the top of the page there's a Search link. If you click on it and type in your key words, you'll find plenty of similar questions (though perhaps not phrased so eloquently) and many useful suggestions by members. It'd save you a heap of typing time... & everyone else.

Cheers -
