It would indeed be great to be able to disable a single clip. It may also lead to all sorts of confusions (why does my clip not play :)

I guess that until this feature has been added to PD, the solution would be to set the A/B/C/D clips each in a separate track in the timeline, and to disable the tracks on and off? Or is that too simple?
Can you tell a little bit more, please or show a screen shot of what is happening. In my environment I can position and set a simple line at any place I like.
(PD scrashed when I tried to copy/paste the simple line trying to add one mre., but thta is beside the point)
Can you add an internal drive to you system? That perhaps even in compination with folder mapping may be a solution?
Hallo,
Obtaining Shutterstock material is only possible via the CL (PD) software. Note also that the CL Shutterstock deal only applies for part of the Shutterstock resources.
What you can do is freeze tje video at the desired moments.
Move to the point you want the video to freeze.
Make sure that that point is "selected" showing the red line on the right spot.
Right click the mouse with the pointer in de video clip
Select Edit video in the menu
Click on Freeze frame.
The frame or image will be inserted on the position with a length that is specified in the preferences for insertion of images.
The duration of the image can be set to the length you want the video to freeze.

Repeat this at any place you want the video to freeze.

Of course. You add the produced clip to your media room, Put it in the timeline, and edit the clip.

The other way (and best way) is to re-edit the clip /project in the time line. Simply open the project (provided that you have saved the production as a project) and add editing as required. If you have not saved the production as a project, you may have to start the production all over again. Saving a project is always better.

Note that after a production, the produced clip is automatically added to the media room unless you have unticked the box in the preferences produce tab.....
The very first thing you can check is the (difference) between the volume setting of PD and of your video player (the one you use to show the video after production.)
My experience is that the volumes of the various (video-) players is different even if they show the same volume "value".
Indeed sub-titles and text are different. What David probably means here is:
Make a title and format this title such that is resembles a sub-title (or visa versa). Also make sure that it is precisely in the position of a sub-title.
And then do a fade out for this title.
You will get the desired effect.
Another option is to set the sub-title as required. Do not fade the videopart yet. Separately produce the selection of your video. Then include the produced part into the timeline to replace to original part. The sub-title now is part of the produced video and can as such be faded out.

The downside of these approaches is that the title, cannot be exported as part of the sub-titles, nor made part of a (multi-lingual) sub-title stream on a DVD etc.
Je regarde toujours si YouTube a quelque chose à offrir sur le sujet, et oui bien sure voila

I always have a look whether YouTube has something to offer on the subject, and yes indeed voila

Understood. I know of people who have downloaded virtually everything available. As long as the system is large enough to hold the stuff that whould be fine.
What I have notived is, that PD will "in the background" fill the various rooms with the available (downloaded) features. It will also scan you disk for previous versions to ensure that stuff that was created and downloaded during those versions, will be made available too. THAT searching and filling process can take time too, depending on the capacity and speed of your system.

My basic position is that I only download those things I am going to use, knowing that if there something out there that I all of a sudden need, I can download it there and then without toomuch of a hassle.
Transitions in the transition room ready for use, I understand you say? As far as I am aware PD can hold all transitions and effects, particles etc, available in the various rooms.
Why do you ask?
Personally, I would not have merged the VOB files at windows level. I would have insert them into the timeline in the proper order.

But you indicate that when playing the video and audio are still in sync.

The duration of the production (2,5 hours) might be an indication that there was some (heavy) video conversion required, which might cause the sync problems. It would be good to understand/check what the format specs are of the VOB files you used as input. Likely not HQ and maybe a different rate? I would start looking at the problem there. Maybe share them here, so that we can look over your shoulders?
After adjustment, may it would be a good idea to test -say- the last 5 mins of the production, by selecting that portion in the timeline and production the selection only?
Quote I would prefer that PD starts with no tracks at all and that depending on what (audio, video, audio+video, text, fx, overlay etc) and where you import it on the timeline (on track, below or above) it automatically adds a audio track, a video track or an audio+video track.
Also I would prefer a key shortcut for quikly adding audio, video or audio+video tracks instead of the track manager.

Suggest to let CL know what it is you want, using the Rate us & provide suggestions option in the file menu
No when you change the pink to black using chroma key, you have done what is needed to remove the pink. The black you see in the default void "color". What you should do is moving the video to a lower track leaving spave for a background color, color board or even a picture or a video. You will then notice that the black happens to be transparent and that you will see what is in the track above where before it was pink made black by the chromakey. (assuming that you have the regular PD track order set). The black that was balck before the chromakey thing, remains black!
You may also see that because of pink variations not all pink is gone and that you have to go back to the chroma key to change the color range and/or the tollerance a bit.
Neither when you use Edge
With PD Cromakey you can virtually remove any color, it does not have to be green. Green is usually used because that color is most unlikly to be present in the human skin. Not the human but the background has to be replaced.
You can use PD (PIP designer) to deal with the pink background. With ColorDirector you have more options, but I certainly would give it a try with PD itself.

Why can't artistic creators have some freedom to make their own effects from scratch? Some features can't be edited, which is frustrating a lot of the time, mainly because the structure may not be exactly what you want, e.g. shapes, paths, colours, particles, etc.

How do people create the stuff that's downloadable on DZ?
Can YouCam effects be used directly in PD?

Cheers!

WHY CAN'T: But you can. For any of the stuff you mention (but NOT for effects), you can create a new one from cratch. Let you imagination go, and upload them to the DirectorZone to share with others. That is how others have done it too.
HOW DO PEOPLE: So if you want to create e.g. a new particle, with new shapes and paths as you describe. You save the new particle, AND you click on the share button too, which uploads your particle to the DirectorZone.

Quote I want to create lower thirds that have video embedded in them. I know I can create this within PDS but once achieved, I wanted to make it available for others to use and make it editable, e.g. change video and other elements, etc. BUT as a text overlay.

Hmm. I agree that the options PD gives are a bit limited. What you see is that PIP designer works with images rather than video clips. You have to go and extract individual images from a video and collect them into a series to make them play.

That is a good question. As we can see, in PD there is indeed no option to add/create an effect. In the Title room, the transition room, the PIP objects room and the particle room you will find a button at the top (square with +) to create something new. In the effects room this button is missing. And notice that in the online Director zone there are pages for all but for effects, since … there appears to be no option to create effects yourself. Effects can only be modified.
But maybe we can help you being creative: what are you looking for precisely?
This indeed can be very annoying. It is “normal” behavior for PD and as far as I can see there are no options yet to switch this off.
You can manually add tracks, and each time the last track is being used, PD adds a new empty track below (or above) the last track to give space for more clips. And the track added is full combined video/audio track. Of course, you can simply delete all empty tracks by right clicking in the timeline and select remove empty tracks from the menu.
Maybe CL will turn the addition of tracks into an option if you file a suggestion using the Rate us & provide a suggestion…
Not so understandable.
As you have seen there are many transitions each with a diffrent behavior. The are also options to "set" a transion, like overlap, cross over. And one can use a transition as only the END a clip, or START a clip without touching the next or the previous clip. There are more settings for (most) transitions available when you click the modify bottum above the timeline.
I guess there is room for more playing around.

If you cannot find the specific you are looking for, thy the CL free templates room by clicking thefree templates buttom in the transition room. or.....
let us know what it is you are looking for by pointing to an example.
