Transitioning

Playing around with transitions.
I placed a transition between 2 short videos.
Going out of the first video, the effect is spectacular.
The second video just pops up or fades in.
What I had hoped for was the portion being blackened by the first video
would be replaced by the second video filling in those blackened areas/
Hope I am explaining this properly to be understandable. Intel i5-9400F / B 360M MB (MS-7B19) 2.9 Ghz /

Not so understandable.
As you have seen there are many transitions each with a diffrent behavior. The are also options to "set" a transion, like overlap, cross over. And one can use a transition as only the END a clip, or START a clip without touching the next or the previous clip. There are more settings for (most) transitions available when you click the modify bottum above the timeline.
I guess there is room for more playing around.

If you cannot find the specific you are looking for, thy the CL free templates room by clicking thefree templates buttom in the transition room. or.....
let us know what it is you are looking for by pointing to an example.
Have fun

It looks like you added 2 transitions one at the end of the first video and one at the beginning of the second video.
In your case use the fade transition, or another, over the junction of the 2 videos
You can also drag the second video over the first and in the menu that appears choose Crossfade.
To adjust the duration, click on the transition, then click on the clock... XEON-E5-2680 v4 / Mem. 16GB DDR4

Both of your replies gave me much to consider.
Just in case I do not have time to properly solve my quandary,
I will try explaining further....

Going from one image to another,
I am hoping the every part of the first image that disappears
is instantly replaced by that portion of the second image.
I can imagine many examples but not point to any one specifically.

Planning to research more and try variables....

Appreciate your efforts.
Will get back with ya... Intel i5-9400F / B 360M MB (MS-7B19) 2.9 Ghz /

Got it!
Appears I had just been applying transitions incorrectly.
Fixed file example:
