I did not post I wanted to finish my project today so I tried myself. Some of the popping happened in the middle of a clip where no cutting had happened.

With 10 years I was talking about the PD software. 10 years from now for sure they will be out of business.
Just look at the evolution of the powerdirector versions and then look at the other software that are available some of them for free.
I'v been occupied for 5 hours and finally I could put out the video without popping sounds.
I strongly believe this is related to powerdirector.
If you want to experience this. Just edit a movie
I don't want to get into details.

I had many many problems with powerdirector 17.

Recently I aslo needed to have a white background.. and guess what.. this is not possible with powerdirector. So I just loaded a white background picture myself but this is just an example. I started 3-4 topics with serious problems I was experiencing since a few months (since I bought it). At least triple of that I had to find ways to circumvent how non intuitive powerdirector is and how buggy too.

I last did a project in hitfilm express and it went SO smoothly. I went back to PD to finish a project that I had not finished from months ago that I started on PD.

Audiodirector is kind of meh too. I honestly prefer audacity.

I bought powerdirector 365. Even if it were free I would not recommend this to a friend.

The plug ins and effects are very old school too I have not used any of them.

The best about powerdirector were the few people who always tried to help me when I posted on this forum.
So I want to thank them!

I don't think however that I'll go back to using this. It's been a real pain in the *** most of the times.

I'm posting this as constructive criticism. Even a beginner like me experienced the limitations of PD.

Oldschool PD cannot keep up with the rest. I don't think you'll still be here 10 years from now.

That's it bye for now
I did it and now they are identical except for the new one (modified with vlc) is 4 ref frames and the older one 2 ref frames.

thanks a lot
I succeeded thanks

The last step in VLC (or in VirtualDub2) only crops off the unwanted pixels, it shouldn't affect or reduce the quality of the clip you produced in PD. Can you share samples of your before and after clips?

I created two short samples.

This one is directly from PD:

And this one was cropped with VLC using the file above.

Hello

When I choose the smart lasso and go over the picture it always puts a control point at the wrong spot. It's confused as the colours really are similar in that particular spot. I want to guide it and remove the control point that is choosen.

How do I remove a control point ?
It is written you can do this with the left click mouse button but all this does is to add a new control point.

Please help
I can confirm that this works and it's very easy to follow the steps. I did it with VLC.
Only minus is that it reduced the file quality.

Thanks a lot guys for explaining how to.

I'll be using this.
Quote My final result.

Tomasc, can you please tell us how you did it ?
Quote My final result.

This is EXACTLY what I want. How did you do this ?
Quote

bitte.

tried it and can't do it. PD will not allow it. you can delete the link...
drummer is cute, though...

download HandBrake and it'll convert to .MP4 container.

PD doesn't allow it ? Maybe PD recognizes it as a file that has to be bought and can't be shared, like the file has some innate protection ? I's weird.

Do you have PD17 pepsiman ?

I changed it to mp4 with handbrake as you suggested.
In the dimensions tab of handbrake the source (1920x800, PAR:1/1) was different than the width and height so I changed the width and height to 1920x800. It still wrote "output display size 1709x800, PAR 4145x4656". The point is that this file should have the same size and AR as the original otherwise there is no point in trying to replicate what I did.

Got it. Thank you for clarifying that.

Like I said, I'll try out the instructions as soon as I have at least an hour available. Do you have a link to the original borderless vid you're working with?

Wow that's very nice of ,you.
Here is a link to the original file :

I'm not sure what you're implying. Several people spent some considerable time on this thread and provided clear answers to your questions. Pepsiman even shared a video created using his methodolgy that you verified was truly borderless.

For some reason you aren't seeing the same results. I don't know why that is, but it isn't because nobody here bothered to respond or give you an answer. I understand that you're frustrated, but blaming people who've been volunteering their time trying to help you isn't a good way to advance your cause.

If I had more time, I'd be happy to follow your steps exactly as you've decribed them and see if I end up with a borderless video or one with black bars. Unfortunately, I don't have much extra time right now, so unless you can wait a few days until I have time or until someone else has more input, I don't know what else can be done here.

I was talking about the link to another thread.

Nothing useful there. Seems the post/question/topic hasn't been delved into or atleast nobody gave answers.
Ok. It cannot be done with PD.

If someone disagrees that it can’t be done, I asked some simple questions in previous posts. I would love some answers.

I created 4 short samples from 2 different videos by following pepsiman's guidelines from his youtube tutorial.
The first orginal video is a 1920x800 2.40:1 music video bought on apple. I would want to keep it without black bars.
The second is a 1920x1080 16:9 digital copy of a dvd. It has horizontal black bars in it. I would want to remove the black bars.

Music video clip:

Digital copy dvd:

I wrote the guidelines from the tutorial down. Here they are:

Create 3 custom profiles in PD.

Go to Produce -> H.264 AVC MP4 (This profile encodes MPEG-4 video files) -> + (Create new profile)

(1) Profile name= 2.35:1
Description= 3840x1634 30p
a 192Kb/sec v 50Mb/sec
Q6

Video
1920x1080
29.97
Progressive
High profile
CABAC
20000
Quality mode
Use deblocking

Audio
AAC
Stereo
192

(2) Profile name= Vizio 21:9
Description= 2560x1080 30p
a 192Kb/sec v 32Mb/sec
Q6

Same video and audio tabs parameters as the first profile

(3) Profile name= 4K(QfHD)
Description= 3840x2160 30p
a 192 Kb/sec v 50Mb/sec
Q6

Same video and audio tabs parameters as the first profile

Close PD without saving or go back to default and edit.

Open the profile.ini and change the parameters to these=
For the first profile= 2.35:1
<video width="300" height="150">50000000
<Min BitRate>37500000
<Max BitRate>50500000
<Video Width>3840
<Video Height>1634
For the second profile= Vizio 21:9
<Video BitRate>32000000
<Min BitRate>24000000
<Max BitRate>32500000
<Video Width>2560
<Video Height>1080
For the third profile= 4K(QfHD)
<Video BitRate>50000000
<Min BitRate>37500000
<Max BitRate>50500000
<Video Width>3840
<Video Height>2160
Save and exit.

Open PD and open the project you want.
Set project AR to 4:3
Bring video down to the timeline.
Click no to the AR conflict message.
Go to produce, choose the custom profile 2.35:1 and start.
Go back to edit, clear the timeline, bring down the video you just created and change the AR to 16:9
Right click the video on the timeline, set aspect ratio, set AR 4:3 + stretch to 16:9, apply all video clips
Go to produce, choose custom profile 4K(QfHD) and start.
(This creates the final 2.35x1 samples)

Open PD. Set AR to 16:9.
Choose project you want.
Go to produce, custom profile vizio 21:9 and start.
(This creates the vizio 21:9 samples)

Thank you all for reading and helping</video>

Your shared video shows the black border along the top and bottom regardless of the AR setting in VLC. The MediaInfo details show why:

Even though your video has a 2.37 ratio between the number of H and V pixels, the clip's AR attribute is set for 16:9 (1.77). This means that somewhere along the line you've missed an important step, and simply changing the resolution from 1080x800 to 2560x1080 hasn't solved the issue.

At the start of this post, you mentioned that you tried taking a shortcut but that didn't work. Since then, it looks like you've resisted the explicit instructions mentioned by PepsiMan and are continuing to have difficulty.

From where I sit, it seems that if you could temprorarily set aside the "shoulds" and "shouldn't have tos" and walk through the steps exactly as described, you'd end up with your clip looking just like PepsiMan's completely borderless sample.

I'm basically suggesting to start with what clearly works, and then see if you can make any improvements or find a shortcut.

How come pepsiman’s sample produce_fromnow24x1 also has an aspect ratio of 16:9 ?

I’m pretty sure I followed the steps exactly. On another older post someone too mentions that he followed the guidelines but did not have the expected results.

I’ll redo it for all parts of Pepsiman’s tutorial and will upload it when I get home soon.

To repeat: my original video is 1920x800 with 2.40:1 AR and that’s how I would want to keep it. PD makes it 1920x1080 leaving the images/video completely intact but adding horizontal black bars.
I uploaded a short sample of my project that I modified with the guidelines in pepsiman's youtube tutorial.
(The second part: vizio 21x9)

http://www.filedropper.com/modifiedproduce21x9

21/9= 2,33
2560/1080= 2,37
1920/800= 2,4

I notice the video is a little bit stretched. If I use the same aspect ratio as the original this will not happen ?
The original video on default looks different than the producefromnow sample on default in VLC.. So they must be different.
If I change the setting it only looks different but I want to know how it will look for people when watching on youtube. Youtube recommends to post videos without black bars.
Your sample is completely borderless.

I don't understand, if it's really 2.4:1 am I not supposed to see black bars as my monitor is not 2.4:1. On the display settings my desktop resolution is set to 1920x1080 (recommended).

1920/1080= 1,77
1920/800= 2,4

How come I don't see horizontal black bars when in fullscreen on your sample ?

I do see horizontal black bars when in fullscreen on my original video.. but when I reduce the height of the window it only starts shrinking when the black bars are gone.
