Thanks!
I will write here, if my ideas worked out in the end. 870 subtitles are a lot for one project

More likely a formatting error in the .srt file, but where it came from I couldn't say. SRT files have a fixed structure and are not very forgiving of errors!

PowerDirector created these .srt files - not me.
That's why I assume that powerdirector made the mistakes

It's worth looking up how to edit and manipulate srt files in a plain test editor because it gives considerable flexibility to find and replace and manually edit - which can save substantial time.
There's a good few topics on the forum on srt files, do a search on the previous versions forum for srt and order the results by date.
The ability to edit subtitles in PDR is limited to the main interface but being able to use a plain text editor to edit is much easier and more productive.
So, for instance, if you have your german srt file, make a copy and, if the timings are to remain the same, just replace the german text with the english text - possibly from a straight text file - by copy and past. Obviously if there was thousands to do, you might be able to script an auto replace function on the text srt etc. etc.
Others might have more suggestions.

I cannot replace the german subs because I have German speakers and English speakers in the film..
That's why I need different subs in different languages.

Hi,
Not 100% sure I understand your exact requirements! But, as a starter, do you know about producing, exporting/importing and editing .srt files?
Sorry if that's a basic question, but the answer might influence any suggestions that members might make!
Cheers,

I exported .srt files before - and in the end there were 2 mistakes in the subtitles:
When you watched the film, sometimes there were suddenly figures before the text.
Must have been a mistake of powerDirector, I assume?
So I don't really trust the .srt import ...

I wanted to ask your opinion about the subtitling workflow.
I am making a 90 min. documentary in which 2 languages are spoken: English and German.
I have already finished the German subtitles.
There are 360
Now I want to make another version with English subtitles and at the end a version with German and English together.
So a total of 3 versions.
I notice that even 360 subtitles put a lot of strain on the computer.
Can I really enter twice as many manually without problems?
I have considered the following variants for the workflow:
1. make new English subtitles in a separate version - and then import them into the version with the German subtitles.
Does the import really always work without errors?
2. incorporate English subtitles directly into the version with German subtitles.
I would then have a version with both languages
And then at the end: manually delete all German subtitles - and so I would have the version with only English subtitles.
Which variant would be best?
Or are there even better workflows?
Variant 1 sounds best to me, because then the performance of the graphics card/CPU might be less strained?
But the question is whether importing really works reliably?
I would be very grateful for any tips!

I found out that the waves come back when I press F5 (actualize/refresh) - (windows 10)
after a minute or so
worked twice for me so far.
I hope this can help anyone. <3

Thank you all so much!
At the moment I don't have the time to check the solutions right away - but I will soon! (have to finish a rough cut first .. until wednesday)
I hope I will understand everything correctly - and would write here again!

I'm sorry if I misunderstood what you wanted. If you want to back up your work each day to separate external hard drives then as JL_JL says you could use a file synchronisation program. The one I use allows you very detailed control of what is backed up and where. You simply set up what files, or groups/types of files, you want backed up and the source and destination paths then it can be done with a single click. It won't backup to multiple destinations but it's easy to set up multiple profiles which you can quickly select so with two or three clicks you should be able to do what you want. I can give you a link if you would like to PM me.

Thank you all so much for your advice -and your patience!
So I understand that there is no alternative to packing the project.
But as the film is a project in progress - how can I make a backup on 2 hard drives when I add new footage (which happens often)? I don't want to pack it every time from scratch - it takes hours.
Any tips?

There is no point in repeatedly backing up all the source material especially as the OP states he already has it backed up. All he needs to do is back up the .pds file and as Philwild has pointed out you can autosave that at time intervals prescribed in Preferences > Project. In there you can also set the destination of the saved file so if the OP wants to back up automatically to an external drive he just needs to set the path there.

|
Thank you!
Yes I save it very often, too. And of course I have a copy of all used raw material somewhere else.
I meant backup on a second external hard drive - because I don't trust only one hard drive ..
so if I save a copy of the original project folder on a second hard drive - I can't open the project it anymore from there because the file path of the used raw material is of course different then ...

There is a setting that will auto backup every 2-120 minutes. You can save whenever you want. I save after every change I make.
Packing the project is usually used to move the project about, though I can see a use for creating a copy in a safe place.
Remember that PowerDirector doesn't import your clips, the PDS file records all the changes and the locations of the clips. You should take the proper precautions of backing up the locations you are keeping your clips and othe media.

Hi,
sorry for this beginner's question.
I am working on a 90 min. film (also with subprojects) which will take many weeks to edit.
Is there a possibility fo a daily backup without having to pack the different projects materials everytime?
Would be grateful for any help!

Well thats me And im talking About the New 365 PD 18 .version k-lite codec and lav decoder worked or convertion of the avi files to MPEG or M2TS .i think it's odd so many people have avi problems.
OMG thank you so much!!!
I'm wondering why I asked the tech support first - none of the offered solutions worked in the last 4 weeks!
.. and this seems to be no new problem ...!
but your codec worked finally!
btw I only downoaded the k-lite codec and it' working.

Thank you for your reply!
I already provided a file for the technical support - as requested - but they simply don't reply anyore.
I've been in contact for 1 month now - with no solution :/
Annoying.
Would be very grateful for help!

I'm really having troubles to open already finished projects.
I can see the avi thumbnails but suddenly playback does not work anymore - an error message comes instead and powerdirector often crahses.
The technical support could not help me, re-installition did not help either - in the meantime I'm getting no replies anymore ;(
This is totally annoying as I have deadlines for the film!
Does anyone have a solution?

oh sorry, I was bit confused about the names: I want to thank you, Optodata, for your help!

Hi Nikmartin,
thank you so much for your reply - this sounds like a stunning solution for the problem.
At the moment I'm editing like that:
I synchronize the 2 camera tracks and the tascam and put them together, so edit I all of them at once.
It's working but I'm sure your solution is much better and way more professional!
Thanks again...

Hi!
it would be great if anyone could help me ...
I have 2 cameras and a tascam and a rode mic for one of the cameras.
If I work with multicam designer there is only one audio track left, isn't it? (I have to choose one audio track)
But I want to keep both recordings (tascam for the atmo and the rode for speech etc.)
Is there a possibility that I can keep all the recordings in the multicam designer?
