Quote Not sure of what you mean here. Try this: Put the color board on track 1. Put each of the 3 sizeable images on 3 different tracks directly below each other. The images should be transparent png files.

Thank you, Tomasc. That is exactly how to do what I wanted. I now have images of two flags and an infant on a blue backgrounf. Incidentally, the images don't have to be transparent png files. Thank you again.
How do I put three sizable images on one colour board? I did this some years back but have forgotten how.
Quote Intelligent SVRT really does not work that way so I suspect something else is causing your timeline to be the same length. Most likely there is a little sliver of video or audio left on the timeline. Go to "Movie" mode beneath the preview window and then hit the "End" key on the keyboard. This will go to the last content on the timeline. If you have used multiple channels it may be in a different track.

Jeff

Thank you Jeff for your thoughtful response. Tried the Movie/End approach. Nothing between 25 min and the original 50 min end of the movie but the SVRT track still showed all the way to 50 min. After restarting the program the next day, the SVRT track had shortened to the new length of the video! Go figure. Only one track in use. I do wish I could find a way to back out of using SVRT once it has been applied.

Thanks again, Sorlie
I applied intelligent SVRT to a video. I subsequently shortened the video but, when producing, the original SVRT

still applies and the video is longer than necessary. How do I cancel SVRT. Sorlie
tomasc, Thank you for your prompt reply, the excellent and helpful advice and for introducing me to a part of PD14 I had not previously explored. I can now control the level of added music as I would want to. After a number of years of producing DVDs, I am now getting more adventurous and am entering the field of added music. The next phase will be, where appropriate, voice over instead of subtitles.
In gratitude, Samuel MacKenzie
After a number of years of using Power Director, I've decided to get more ambitious and to add sound to my videos. Thanks to help from Neil and Carl, I've got to first base. Now, my problem is that I can find no way to control the volume of the added sound file. I don't want the sound to be so loud that it intrudes on any dialog in the video. Again, it is probably so obvious that I cannot see the solution.

Sorlie
Neil,

Thanks for your advice re Utube. I do not intend to upload any videos to that system, so should stay out of trouble.

Although it has nothing to do with music, I thought I should deal with the exclamation mark after Sorlie. I grew up in the Hebrides, Gaelic being my native language and was baptised in Gaelic with the name 'Somhairle' which is the Gaelic version of a Norse name, Somer Ledi (summer warrior) usually rendered in English as Somerled. Probably with the introduction of the Civil Registry in 1855 and entries in the Registry being made by monoglot English speakers, the Gaelic name was rendered in English as 'Samuel', a Hebrew name for which there is no Gaelic equivalent. Sorlie is the usual familiar English version of Somhairle.

Happy and successful Directing,

Sorlie
Neil and Carl, Thank you both for your 'sound' advice, no pun intended. The concept of importing the music is so obvious that I overlooked it. The music I would like to use would be my own compositions or old Gaelic melodies and bagpipe tunes, many of which are in the public domain. The DVDs will be for family use only - memories of holidays etc. Thus I am not likely to run into copyright problems. I am not enamoured by the choices of music available via Smart Sound so will not be using that feature.
Wishing both success in your Directors' chairs.
Thanks again, Sorlie
Can anyone tell me how to incorporate music of my own choice and production into the sound track.

I am a musician and would like to include my own music into a video. What is the procedure to do so?

Sorlie
Sailor Guy,
Steve has the right approach. I've been converting dozens of VHS tapes to DVDs and I first
capture the data using a Dazzle device and Pinnacle Studio 15. I Have never used PD to capture
and have had no problems if I separate the capture step from subsequent editing. The resultant digital
files can then be imported into PD10 without any problems. I use Studio 15 only because the Dazzle device
is coupled to that program unless one buys an additional program.
Sorlie
I deleted and reinstalled PD9 and everything then worked normally. Note that I did not say the problem was
solved. To do so would mean that I understood the specific reasons for the problem. I do not. Meantime, I'm content
to put the problem behind me.
Sorlie
I run PD9 on my laptop and PD10 on my desktop. I recently downloaded .dzm and .dzt files from the Directors' Zone to my laptop. On double clicking the downloads, I get a message that Windows cannot open the files. I have previously had no problem incorporating downloads into PD9 or PD10. Transferring the same downloads to my desktop, everything works as expected. The templates are incorporated into and are useable in PD10.

I have searched the forums and have not found any reference to this particular problem. Does anyone have an explanation for this odd behaviour?

Sorlie
Maryellen,

I have recently experienced your problem. Search "H.264 activation" and you will see my tale of woe. Jaime is correct.
Provide Cyberlink with all the info they want, then ask (I'm tempted to say 'demand') them to provide you with a link
to a fresh download of the program and associated files. They did so for me after three weeks of mixed communication. When I loaded everything, upgraded to patche 1703 and started to edit AVCHD files, strangely, I was not prompted to activate H.264 capability!

There was an indication in one of the responses to my forum query that the same issue of activating within 30 days also applies
to blueray functionality. I've set up a project aimed at a blueray but have not been prompted to activate any function! Ask Cyberlink about the need to activate blueray capability. Send me a personal E-mail if Cyberlink provides a definitive answer about the blueray issue.

Hope things work out for you.

I routinely get a "high cpu usage" message from Norton when the computer is working hard, but the pop up is labeled as being produced by Norton. There is no mention of a handle.

Earlier today I received an E-mail from Cyberlink, providing a link for me to download another copy of PD 10 and the associated packs. Having installed the program and the latest patch, I am now able to edit AVCHD files. However, I was NOT prompted to activate H.264 capability so it remains to be seen whether I am headed for another disaster in future.

Dafydd: I was not asked to provide proof of purchase! Given Cyberlink's connection to Digital River and that Cyberlink was provided with the Serial Number and activation code of the software, it should not have been difficult for Cyberlink, in this day and age, to determine that I was the genuine purchaser of the software. One E-mail to Digital River would have provided the desired result. All of which makes one wonder why Cyberlink asks customers to provide proof of purchase!

I bought a download version so the comments from others that the boxed version contains the appropriate warning does not apply to me. However, the different responses of users simply adds to the confusion on this issue. Cyberlink apparently have a corporate policy re the H.264 activation, which they have implemented in the worst possible way. I, for one, would happily have paid more to avoid the hassle of the past three weeks.

My grateful thanks to those who provided moral support and technical information. I believe that there are lots of nice people out there that I have yet to meet. I am convinced that many of them contribute to this forum.

Finally, in a more jocular note, Phil, do you still have snow in Nova Scotia? Out here in Saskatoon, despite the rain, summer has arrived.

Sorlie
Dafydd,
Many thanks for providing prompt and accurate info. My problem is that Cyberlink has never asked for proof of purchase nor have they suggested a way to fix the problem. They keep asking for diagnostic files, patch being used, product SN etc, etc ad nauseam.
I have not confused the support ticket and order nos. My problem there is that when I respond via the "Reply" button, my response is treated as a new ticket and is issued another number. THEN, Cyberlink respond asking me to use the old number. I have no control over the number being issued.
Some day this mess will be sorted.
Many thanks,
Sorlie
Robert: thank you for reassuring me that I am not the only one who considers this an Alice in Wonderland situation.

Phil: thank you for the link. That this condition is buried in the small print suggests that Cyberlink does not want one to
activate the feature despite it being an advertised function of PD 10. From September 2010, all my movies are AVCHD and I was so looking forward to enjoying the higher resolution and am reluctant to convert the videos to a lower resolution. Having caught up with processing earlier films, some going back to the early 1970s, I was starting to deal with the more recent movies in the family archive, especially to be handed on to the grandchildren. Now I am totally frustrated especially since I had no problems with any earlier version of PD.

Several weeks back I opened a ticket with Cyberlink support and since then I feel I've been getting the run around. I explained the situation up front and have supplied diagnostic files, several screen images and demonstrated that the effect is not a function of a particular patch. The issue is clear but none of the responses from Cyberlink provides a solution or even acknowledges the real problem. Now my responses are ignored because, when I reply, either through the 'reply' button on Cyberlink's Email or via the link they suggest, my response is given a new CS number. I am then asked to respond using the original CS number although there is no mechanism for me to enter the appropriate number, which is allocated by Cyberlink's web site software. On reflection, Alice lived in a simpler world!

I am on the verge of giving up on PD10.

Thank you both for your prompt responses.

Sorlie
I used PD10 Ultra (full version, not upgrade) for several months before starting to edit my AVCHD files having,
up to that point, been dealing with low res family videos. I did so for several weeks before, out of the blue, I was prompted to activate H.264 capability. I duly did but had to repeat the process every time I tried to load AVCHd files. Some weeks later, when prompted, I received a message to the effect that there was no response from the server. From that
point on, I could not load AVCHD files for editing. A ticket has been started with Cyberlink but, several weeks later,
I am no closer to a solution. A diagostic file and various image files have been submitted to Cyberlink and the problem
is not a function of the patch version.

I know this problem of H.264 activation has been brought up earlier but none of the info or suggestions provided
matched my circumstances. When reading the earlier thread, I note that Daffyd mentioned that the function should
be activated within 30 days of the date of purchase. How is one supposed to activate H.264 capability within 30 days
of purchasing the program when that requirement is not presented to the user? Having informed Cyberlink support
of my tardy activation attempts, that factor appears to have been overlooked and is not a factor in any of the
supposed solutions presented.

I can import and edit the same AVCHd files in PD 9 without any problem or a prompt to activate H.264 capability.

Does anyone out there have fresh insight into my problem?

Sorlie
Thank you David for your suggestion. My visit to the shop presented the amount due in Canadian dollars and, at the time, I had no reason to believe that there would be a problem, so I left the amount as presented.
Thanks to you, next time I buy something at Cyberlink, I will be more careful.

Sorlie
Regarding the exchange rate used for Australian currency, the same applies to the Canadian dollar. The exchange rate yesterday was 1.0179 $Can to the US$. The upgrade from PD8 Ultra to PD9 Ultra cost me almost $10 more than it should have based on the cost in US$. It would have been simpler if PD/Digital River allowed me to pay in US$ and let Visa take care of the exchange rate. It is not clear whether Cyberlink or Digital River is responsible for the overcharging.
