I went to upgrade PowerDirector 17 today through the app itself. It appeared to download the latest version of Application Manager before loading.

1. The login window did not disappear after logging in: Application Manager presented a pop up window asking me to log in. I put my login details, and I could see my name appear behind the login screen, indicating login was successful. However the login window did not disappear. The window stayed there with a blank email and password as though it was still waiting for login details.

2. I clicked "What's New?" for the PowerDirector365 update. The What's New window popped up, but no text could be read because the window wasn't large enough and I couldn't resize it:

It doesn't matter if a file is mono or stereo, Normalize should work for both regardless. It's an easy way to maximize the waveform without clipping the audio. Otherwise you have to do trial and error by manually adjusting the volume, making sure it doesn't go over 0 dB.
haha yeah the "final sale" was previously until 31 August. Then they changed the date to 7 September. I'll bet they add another week on top of that as well.

Then there's the fake low stock message:

I watched the counter. It stopped at 93 and wouldn't got any lower. Then I loaded up a different browser and the countdown started again from the top (410 or something). All these tactics are pretty deceptive, Cyberlink.
Quote So does anyone think this is a hardware issue? I've gone through most, if not all, the threads on PD15 on H.A. and I couldn't find another with this issue. BTW: I am using a brand new AMD Threadripper 1950X Nvidia 1080ti 32GB RAM system running extremely well with XMP 2.0 enabled for peak performance with temperatures across the board well below the max on all cpu cores so hardware should not be the issue.

hmm, that XMP could be an issue. Overclocking RAM or your CPU has the potential to corrupt data in memory. A perfect situation for that to occur would be when rendering videos, especially if it's software rendering only. I would turn off XMP and see if that makes a difference.

As for PowerDirector settings, I know the encoder has some limitations with the trial version. For instance, I think the full version allows for "high profile" h.264, whereas the trial only has "baseline" and "main" profile. Whether that would make a difference, I don't know.
Quote Produce your video. Then play it in your media player. The preview window is there to help you when editing.

Right-click the video window and lower the Preview Quality. See if that helps. Unfortunately PD doesn't seem to have an option to pre-render clips on the timeline.
EDIT: Ah, it looks like it *can* pre-render, as per the post below by Moderator. Nice.
Quote So I'm trying to understand if it's ok to shoot the main video sections in 1080-30FPS or 60FPS but then add in the "B roll" footage of slow motion clips in 720-240FPS.

That's what I would do. If it's a project that doesn't need slo-mo, then yeah it's best if the footage is all the same type, as it saves the video editor from having to convert it and/or drop frames to match the existing project etc.

Filming at 60fps will give you a more smoother, life-like video, which is good for capturing faster movements (it might suit your kind of videos). The only thing to keep in mind is that 60fps files will require more space as they're storing twice as many frames as a 30fps video.
Quote I've dropped 60 fps footage before into a 24 fps project timeline. It plays back in normal speed.

Yeah I just tried it with PD, and it processes the clip and drops frames to make it match 24fps. It does this independently of the audio, so that's good. Premiere Pro does the same. It does seem sluggish when editing these converted clips though, it seems to reprocess them to 24fps on the fly (which is a good thing in case you decide to slow a clip down).
If you're shooting at 60fps, then I'd go with a 60fps timeline. If you import a 60fps video to a 24fps timeline, then every clip will look slow motion by default (your timeline plays 24 frames per second, but your clip contains 60 frames per second).

Depends how PD handles it, but you might have to speed up all your clips. What would that do to the audio? At worst it would speed up the audio and then you'd have to do pitch correction. So it might mean a lot of messing around for most of your video. The only good thing is for your slow motion parts, you won't need to artificially slow down the clip since a 60fps clip would play back in slow motion by default on a 24fps timeline.

If you really want the 24fps look, then it'd be best to film the bulk of it in 24fps and use 60fps for shots you want in slow motion.

Some editors have a frame rate/interpolation plugin that can adjust the frames to give it a 24fps look (or can help give your 24fps video a 60fps look). Don't know if PD has this feature though.
Wasn't there a fix for an AAC problem?

thank you
Can any ex-Premiere Pro users provide some feedback on their experience with PowerDirector? I have purchased PD in the past, but never used it for a full project because of various issues. Each version gradually gets better, so I'll be looking at PD 16 with interest.

Any thoughts?
- I would like the option to remove all video/audio tracks. There are so many unremoveable tracks taking up space (title track, music track, the first two audio+video tracks, etc). It's a very inefficient use of space when there are unnecessary gaps for audio, music, etc that you don't need (but need a heap of video tracks).

- 2-pass encoding. Even at high bitrates (15mbps+), I've found that 2-pass can actually improve the quality of complex scenes.

- Smoother playback cursor (CTI).

- Smoother mouse zooming.

- When mouse zooming (CTRL+mouse wheel), please allow the zoom to follow where the mouse cursor is (like Pinnacle Studio, Premiere Pro and others). So basically the timeline will zoom in/out wherever you point the mouse while zooming. Currently it will always zoom in/out on the playback cursor/CTI.

- Please improve the effect/transition preview animation (the spinning flower and the A/B animation). It is horrible. It looks very low resolution, it's full of video tearing, and is a horrible frame rate. It makes PD look unprofessional.

Quote Please those aspect ratios, or have the ability to define any aspect ratio.

- A custom video size option would be handy.

Quote Please add more Filmora-like transistions to PowerDirector.

Even most of Premiere Pro's built-in transitions are garbage. In fact, to be honest, PD's built-in transitions are probably better quality than Premiere's (not the 3rd party ones like Adorage, those are tacky AF). I use FilmImpact transitions for Premiere, those are classy and very usable for text and images. But unfortunately not available for PD.

thanks
Thanks for all the replies! I wouldn't want to create a separate video for each PIP transition... too much hassle and you'd lose quality by rendering, importing, then rendering again (and you'd lose transparency). Sounds like it's just one of those quirks.

thanks
I'm trialling PD15 and come across something odd.

If I apply a transition to a clip or image, the transition is not centered relative to the clip. It's always anchored to the center of the entire video instead.

Below, the top-left image is the Clock Wipe, and the bottom-right image is Wormhole Wipe. I couldn't find any settings to fix this problem:

Nevermind, it looks like I found it - I have to create a new profile. I thought I could edit the existing ones.
I'm capturing some old VHS tapes, but the capture options seem very limited.

If I select MPEG2, I can't change the audio setting from stereo to mono. So when I record my mono tapes, the audio only comes out of one speaker because it's expecting a stereo signal. If I record it like this, then I have to go back in, re-encode the audio to a mono format, and then remux it. Also I can't change the MPEG2 video quality either.

I tried to capture via uncompressed AVI instead, but it won't let me select the PAL resolution of 720x576, it's either 640x480 or 1024x576. I tried a capture at 640x480 and I wasn't impressed with the quality so I'd prefer 720x576. Also, even though I selected 16-bit mono sound, it still saved as stereo and outputted the audio out of one channel only.

Any ideas?

thanks
Are there audio plugins for PD13? In Premiere Pro I often add a Limiter effect to each audio track, so if the audio gets a bit too hot when all the tracks are mixed together, then it automatically reduces the audio volume for that particular part in order to avoid distortion or clipping.

I'm trying to find something similar in PD13.

I didn't download the patch from the website, it comes through on the Application Manager and tells me an update is available. There's been about 3 updates for PD13 so far and I've never had a problem previously.
I just recently upgraded my PowerDirector 13 Live to the latest version (13.0.2307).

Since then Application Manager simply crashes when I try to load it:

I've downloaded Application Manager again from the Cyberlink website and re-installed it, but it still crashes. PD 13 seems to work fine though.

Any suggestions?

thanks
