There are (at least) two users with this problem.
Do you have a fixed version available?
Thanks!

...you can then select both segments, and then right click and then click Combine to restore the clip fully (example 3).
Thanks Ash for the help, but when I select the two segments, the "Combine" choice is always grayed out and unavailable...

Thanks for the suggestion, but that would be way too complicated for a moderate-sized project with a lot of adjustments...

I have had to restore previous edited projects to work on and was able to do so by going to the autosave folder...
I make frequent backups, but that does not address my requirement.
I need to come back after some time and restore a removed section, eliminating the surrounding cuts.
I do NOT want to revert all the other edits as would happen from a backup.

Unfortunately I spoke too soon.
Multi-trims seem to dissappear into a set of disconnected segments, with no way to undo the cuts.
And I cannot figure out how to get the UI to do what seem terribly simple and necessary things:
1) Introduce a cut and remove a section (for example a sentenceX) in the middle of a clip.
2) Come back later and restore the removed segment.
Aaaarrrgggggg......
PS: Yes, I did read the help, and look at some tutorials, but I cannot get PD16 to do what I need...

As long as you trim the clip using the Multi-Trim tab in the Trim tool (I accidently called it Duration), you can open it again at a later point and make the desired changes easily. Hit the F1 key when you have the Trim tool open to see the details in PD's Help file.
Ah Ha! I found the well-hidden trim tool...
Right-click on the clip >> Edit Video/Image >> Trim...
Any previous cutting and trimming can be adjusted or removed using the trim tool multi-trim tab.
Works regardless of whether original trimming was done with the trim tool or simply trimmed on the timeline.
Thanks @optodata for the hint!

Maybe I completely misread your question. You're talking about cuts - which means to trim the length of a clip and prevent sections before/after the desired scene from being seen - but the linked post was discussing crops, which is where sections of the screen content are cut out/zoomed in on.
Sorry if I used the wrong term, and I did mean what you call "crops" (though I thought crop was dimensional adjustment).
I am talking about removing a few-second segment in the middle of a clip (Crop?),
and later needing restore it.

I'm not sure which kinds of edits you saw in older PD versions that didn't work in PD16
See https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/38275.page.
Thanks, but do you have an answer for my main question?
How to I restore a section I cut out???
Thanks!

I am editing a presentation where I sometimes add and remove portions, for example a portion of a slideshow.
I made a couple cuts and removed a segment. Some time later I want to restore the content.
The content is still in the source clip, but is trimed out in the timeline.
I found some answers on this forum for earlier versions but they don't seem to work in PD16.
Also, is there a recommended technique for making a cut so it can be easily restored?
Thanks!
PS: What might be really helpful is a timeline with sections that can be enabled/disabled.
Just like one enables/disables slides in a PowerPoint presentation...

...I wondered which display was allocated as "Main" and which was secondary.
I presume you are using them in extended mode not mirror/duplicate mode?
Are you using a user defined recording area or full screen or program window area?
Are you spanning the extended display, covering all or part of both monitors for your recording (even by a pixel or two)?
Extended, no overlap, laptop is "main" and external display is #2.
Using entire screen to attempt recording.
Fails on #2, works on #1.

Hi,
I have 2903 on my laptop. Just coupled up to a 2nd monitor and with extended screen and both monitor and inbuilt display set at same res and scale, I do not get an error. Same if I change res on the monitor, works OK.
Can you give more details of your setup and display configuration to help troubleshoot?
Cheers

Apologies, but I do not know what additional setup/display info I can provide other than the DxDiag output above?
This is a fairly typical setup with both screens 1920x1280.
What else do you need?
Thanks!

Sorry to say there there was no change at all to the video drivers. You clearly ran the DxDiag test two different times, but in both cases the Intel driver is v27.20.0100.8854 dated Oct 13, 2020 and the nVidia driver is v27.21.0014.6109 (aka 461.09) dated Dec 30 2020.
It looks like Alienware's updates contain those driver versions even though Intel and nVidia's "OEM" versions are much more recent; nVidia is at 461.92 (released yesterday) and Intel's latest is .9316 dated March 3, 2021. You may have difficulty installing the new drivers though as Dell is known for trying to keep users tethered to their in-house versions.
I used the Dell update link you suggested, not the vendor update, and Windows insists the drivers are up-to-date...
In any case, it is NOT a system problem, as I just downloaded the OBS screen capture tool and it records just fine from my second screen.

Meanwhile, noe of that addresses the issue thaqt you have a v3 SR. Can you take a ascreenshot of the app and use teh Attachments button to share it here?
Attached. This version is whatever was installed by the CyberLink installer...

.... You do have the latest version of PD16 as I can see it in the list of crashed apps at the end of the DxDiag results. Both your nVidia GTX 1060 and Intel UHD Graphics 630 drivers are out of date, and you should go to the Alienware support site for your laptop to get the latest drivers.
While you're there, I highly recommend you run through at least one of the diagnostics tests as your system is having trouble with PowerPoint and Explorer. Those kinds of crashes are often caused by problems with Windows's core files, and hopefully the diagnostic tests will be able to find and repair the damage.
You can also run the two commands as described here, especially if the Alienware diagnostics come up empty or aren't able to repair the issues.
Drivers updated, sfc /scannow run.
Exact same result: ScreenRecorder fails immediately trying to record from screen #2.
Are you able to record from a 2nd screen? Is anybody??
Thanks!

Please follow the steps in the Read Me Before Posting guide so we can see the exact version of SR and the technical details of your system.
Before posting the above question, I tried to find the version of Screen Recorder by clicking on the top-left icon per the instructions. It does nothing - no version number display. ScreenRecorder.EXE's properties say Product version 3.0.0.2903 - maybe that is helpful?
DxDiag file attached.

Powerdirector 16 on windows 10, powerdirector says no new updates so I think I have the latest version.
Screen recorder immediately fails on 2nd screen with error message "The capture was stopped by Windows".
It works fine on the first (laptop built-in) screen, but I need to use the 2nd screen for recording.
Any way to avoid this problem?
Thanks!

LPCM produced an MOV file with audio, but the produced file CRASHED QuickTime at a scene transition!
I updated to the latest PowerDirector 13 build and tried again, and I finally got an MOV with sound that plays AOK on PC (QuickTime) and iPhone!
That was much harder than it should have been, aarrrgggg...
Thanks for the tip!
Best Regards, Dave

I created a movie.
Plays fine (good audio) in PowerDirector before producing.
Producing the movie into 1280x720_24p.wmv format creates movie with good audio.
Producing the movie into QuickTime yields MOV with no audio (no sound playing either in Quicktime on PC or on iPhone).
I rebooted the computer and ran PowerDirector without running any other programs,
as we know PowerDirector 'Produce' sometimes silently fails if resource-starved, but no luck.
Tech support is unresponsive.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks Barry for your reply.
First, I've edited the original post above to give a list of PowerDirector failures plus a few successes.
Hard to believe I'm "doing something wrong" when the program sometimes works, but mostly produces junk or hangs...
Basically, most attempts at higher resolution fail; see above.
The PC has 16GB of RAM and more than 200GB of available disk space; really ought to be adequate!
The SR number (Build#) from Help About: VDE150212-01
I've attached the DxDiag.txt and a screenshot of the timeline.
I'm afraid I cannot post the entire project to a semi-public forum as it contains proprietary info,
though I will send it to tech support when and if they reply to my ticket...
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards, Dave

No, what I am learning is that I bought software that doesn't do what it claims, and produces incomplete output or crashes. "Reformat the input in the hopes it might work" is hardly a helpful suggestion!
|
|
All videos used were just recorded on a new iPhone (m4v format), and are not copy protected:
1280x720, 7866kbps, 30fps
They are certainly supported; movie preview and trimming inside PowerDirector works fine. Its just "Produce" that is horribly buggy. Note I get "almost" correct output if I produce in MPEG-2 default resolution, though there are other issues (incorrect scaling of input JPG for text pages, video does not show in Microsoft Media Player).
I certainly don't want to convert 20 video segments and retrim them all in the chance it might work better...
