You don't mention why the need to restart your computer, but I highly doubt PD RAM usage is the issue if all you have launched at the time is PD with a simple timeline with fast and slow speed changes. Launch the Windows Task Manager and check RAM usage would be an option to assess.
Jeff
Ok, I'll do that. I'll let you know if there is/was something else causing this. Thank you.

A better PC helps, but will not solve this playback issue, particularly when a large "Speed multiplier:" is used.
Jeff
Let me bother you with one more. I have used video speed quite a bit in my grandchildren's movies (they are very popular in the family!) This last project had the most speed changes, both fast and slow. I can only work for about 20 minutes on it before I restart my computer. Is that a RAM problem?
You've seen my pc specs...are there specs available that will handle all this better? In other words, should I upgrade to a loaded machine. I am retired and spend literally 3 to 4 hours a day doing this.
Thanks Jeff for your advive and your time.

Just how PD handles playback. Speed changes of video can be an intense process, the produced video should be smooth. If you must see it in the timeline, one option is to use render preview in that section.
Jeff
Jeff, thanks for that...I will try that. Does it have anything to do with my pc? My specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz, Video CardGeForce GT 730, Operating SystemWindows 10, RAM8.0 GB
Would a better system solve this?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

It seems clips where video speed is changed (in this case sped up) my preview playback freezes...comes to a dead stop. The video freezes but the audio continues. Anyone know why? I have tried all adjustments of display, hardware optimazation, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Think of it like baking or cooking: Theme Designer is the final step where everything comes together, while clips on the timeline are all in the process of being made. You have to first finish cooking the individual items before putting them on a plate and serving them.
That is a great analogy...I will use that method in a future smaller project. Thanks.

Thank you for those responses. Seems like something that could be changed with new versions. I have 15 clips of granchildren in indoor playgrounds and wanted to put them in an action theme...but producing 15 clips is a bit much. I'll change my plans.
Thanks again.

Maybe I never noticed before, but Theme Designer seems to only let me use videos from the media library. Is that true? I can't use edited videos from my timeline?
Is there a workaround like adding edited clips to the library? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you so much for your response.
I just received a response from Cyberlink and they want me to record the error message. I will do that before I reinstall.
Glad to know there is a lot of support for the product.

Thanks, yes I'm surprised, because it woked for a while.
Is there a way to reinstall the program?
Thanks for your response.

I have been getting that error message. It occurs when I click on "download"; then it occurs when I change the left hand menu (media, colorboards, downloads)
Ironically, even though I got that message since the upgrade, right after that it says "clip has been successfully downloaded and now available for use". Well, it worked for about 2 weeks...I was able to find the clip and use it...now it is never there.
This seems to be a major error and should be corrected ASAP. I was excited to be able to use all that media...hope it can be fixed.

I have to say, I find the new way much more intuitive.
If I have a clip highlighted, the stop sends the playhead to the start of the clip (this makes total sense to me).
If no clip is highlighted the playhead goes to the beginning of the movie.
I no longer have to remember to change it under the preview window (which I always forgot) Just is the clip selected or not.
It always confused me that if a clip was selected, but movie mode switched on. the playhead went back to the beginning and not to the start of the clip, which I would expect.
This is a great simple explanation. Thanks.

Thank you all for those responses. I'm sure as I get used to it, it will be easier, as many times previously I either had clip or movie selected and wanted the other. There is always a reason something is done by Cyberlink and I've always liked (eventually) the changes.

Hi,
Just upgraded to the latest version and one of the changes not mentioned in "What's New" is the absence of the clip/movie tabs just below the edit window. If you click on a clip and hit stop, it goes to the beginning of that clip. But how do you easily get to the beginning of the entire movie? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi icgpamretired1
Another longer way for this and other tools.
Right click on the image, Edit Image, Pan & Zoon
Thank you very much for that!

I assume you mean click on the image and press alt 2?

I have PD 365 and am unable to find Magic Motion for stills. It used to be a magic wand icon. Can someone tell me where it is? Thanks in advance for your help.

The location of many tools and effects changed in PD19 with respect to the previous versions (which the tutorial was probably made for). See this FAQ for more indo.
Thank you so much.

I have PD 365 and read a tutorial for LUTS; It says I should find "Color Presets and CLUTS" under Enhance under the Fix and Enhance tab. I don't have that listed. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for your help.

As far as I'm aware, that issue isn't browser specific which is why I suggested opening each item in a new tab or window so the previous search contents and position aren't lost.
It would be great if the website was updated to make navigation easier, and one place to let Cyberlink know that's important is to use Rate Us & Provide Suggestions under PD's File menu.
Optodata, ok I'll try that. That is not much trouble to go through...a simple work around. Thanks so much.

Wow! This appears to be a major problem. I thought Cyberlink provided a "back to search button" or some such...but it does not. My original problem still exists. If you change the parameters for a search, click on an entry, and try to go back to your search, the site just resets to the original page with the pre-chosen tabs. So if I search for Titles, favorited, all time, 16:9, then click on an entry, I cannot go back to my set search parameters but must start all over again. This is a serious flaw in DZ. I use chrome, but tomasc said it was worse in IE and/or Edge. Anyone use a different browser without this problem?
