Found the answer thanks in PD9
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/21178.page
Via the net, I have received a short video taken with an iPhone that I want to use in a Project.
However the video plays 'side-on' ... 90 degrees out from vertical.
Is there some way to rotate a video in PD10?
I tried to use a £ sign in the Title Room a while back and solved it by typing what I needed in Word 2010 and copy/paste into PD10. It seems you can copy/paste any text from Word to PD10
A lot of useful info folks ... thanks for taking time out to help.
Thanks for your reply.

I have come to the same conclusion ... 'KISS' principle! I notice however that my processor is maxed out for a lot of the Produce time, though it is quite a powerful one and I have good graphics.

Maxing out a processor for extended periods ... is it harmful?

Glad I'm not alone
Any advice on whether I should use either of these settings?
- Enable Open CL
- Enable Hardware Decoding

I use a HP laptop, Windows7 64bit with the following specs:
Wow Bubba ... what a lot of fun for you and freebee for them

I can see why it takes so long when you are so reliant on inputs from many others. You raise some interesting aspects for which I thank you. I started with 16:9 and always use this even when it means a bit of 'black' at the sides of the screen ... I just think the overall effect is better. But here we pretty much have 16:9 eg on all local European TV channels though you seem to use a lot of 4:3 layouts viz CNN etc. I thought that you's folk over there were up with the latest

With such an input from you, how can I have questions. I think my problem (as a novice) has been to want to rush things along to get an end result. Have to sloooooowwwww down and enjoy the journey more.

Thanks again Bubba from this part of the world.
Hei Tony,

You raised an interesting one that I had forgotten ... that of taking full advantage of copy/paste on eg Titles. So far I have only created a couple of 'favorites' in Titles (one being scroll and the other based on fadein/out) so I will experiment on expanding them.

Regarding Transitions, I set up my favorites list but usually find that the 'auto' process pops them in an order which I don't find acceptable. I end up changing most of them as I travel the Timeline. I have also started experimenting using the various Magic Movie and slideshow features ... I place some very basic info on the timeline which is suited to different slide shows, Produce it in Edit mode and then cut out/add various parts to try to make them interesting. Can't claim to be even close to being a Director but the journey is the fun part.

Got to say that my lady ain't seeing to much of me

Thanks for your contact.
Ron
Read this from you Bubba in another thread and would be interested to learn how you go about adding/changing etc the various Titles & Transitions to your large slide shows. For example, do you use 'short cuts' (favorites?) and then change as necessary. I think a number of us could learn a lot from you so if you have the time ...

Quote: .... it could not do near the things with titles that I can in PD. And titles and transitions are what I use the most. Hundreds of each in each project. Picture based slide shows with hundreds of pictures.... very little video.... seldom less than 1 hour long.... mostly around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours...
Still on the subject of splitting projects ... I would like a bit of guidance about moving between projects.

The way in which I am controlling this when in PD is to save current, then File/Open New Project (or another recent file) but effectively this closes the first project and then open the new one. When returning to the first project (File/Recent Files) the programme reloads all the Timeline. Is this the correct approach

Or can you switch between projects as with eg Word/Excel etc. (I am guessing that the answer is 'no' but hoping ...)
Will this help?

Yep typo Jeff ... should be CRVS.
As you have identified it is set to auto and since it consumes little resource when not in use I think I will leave as is. Must be that other users have set theirs to 'manual' ... my 'automatic' must have been set by the programme when installed.

Thanks Jeff and all for guiding me through this maze
Quote: I don't see CRUS service running on my win 7 64 bit. In fact I just started PD 10 and still don't see it running.

Thanks for your input Michael ... strange one this.
My PD10 functions correctly as I guess yours does so what is this 'Rich Video' stuff? I expect one of our experts has the answers so I will tread water just for now in case it is important and I can't start it again if I stop it in Task Manager.

Found this ... so can I safely stop it when its not in use
From Cyberlink's website FAQ: "What is Cyberlink Rich Video (CLRV) and how do I use it? CLRV can save an enormous amount of production time by reusing video file information created by MagicCut or Scene Detection functions. PowerDirector stores the information within the files, ensuring that the next time these features are used on the same files, the speed of production is dramatically improved. You can check CyberLink's rich media technology by accessing "Preferences". "
In my Task Manager (Windows 7 64bit) this service (CRUS) is always running, even when PD10 is not and the pc has been rebooted. Is this normal or should I use Task Manager to stop the service to see what happens
Quote: I never use the slide show wizard for those reasons... BUT if you only have a hand full of photos it seems to work better than a lot of pictures. With 30-40 pictures or more, older versions of the Wizard would leave out about half your pictures......

Lesson learnt ... the hard way but then you don't forget!
Be good though if a 'deal can be struck' with Cyberlink

That is where I have set the 10sec slide duration but Magic Slideshow does its own thing it seems. However Magic Movie Maker does provide more flexibility so I am in experimentation mode ... Fun times

That is your mistake Do not use Magic Slideshow set every thing up your self.

As I explained, I did set the 10sec myself on the Edit Preference page to which you refer in your link so this is not the limitation. It is 'preset' in the Wizard Slideshow variations and not generally alterable as far as I understand. But if you know the solution then I am all ears.
Thanks for your interest

Hei Tony,
Great video and lots of use of the wizard slideshow maker. I like the way you have used many of the variations within the one video ... didn't think of that! Shows that I have a lot to learn and that is good because the fun is in the journey.

Yes, I would love it if the slide times could be flexible ... I tried all I could think of but ended up with ctrl/hand. It must be possible to acheive a good result hope hope. One prob that I had also was I generated huge temp files with all my 'tries' on the 1+hr show ... I was loathe to delete anything and slowly PD 10 ground to a halt! I was pushing it much too hard and got the result I deserved ... this morning PD10 would not open but a few reboots, coffee etc got it all back to normal and its been 'cleaned'.

I am sure a lot of us would be pleased if there is a way of 'stretching' these wizard productions so good luck with your digging.

Thanks again.
Ron
Thanks for all your imputs and ideas.
My earlier comment 'produced this full version and all was correct' is sadly incorrect ... when I played the dvd on the tv there is significant 'judder' where I used the magic slide show wizard on either 'Highlight or Motion', these being the only two that I have so far tried out.

So I conclude that 'stretching' these wizard creations is not a good idea ... I stretched the approx x2 (using clrt/hand) and made various adjustments to the actual motion timings by shortening them using the keyframe features. I prefer my slides to be around 10sec long, including any transitions etc, but the wizard 'likes' them to be much shorter.

Overall, I conclude that its much faster to do 'your own thing' ... I spent many hours using the magic and ended up with an inferior result ... but I learnt a lot!

Has anyone had success using wizard slideshows
Is there any way of overcoming my problems
Quote: Hi Ron,

G'day Nina. Your norsk will be perfect ... mine is very uff! So lets please stick to Aussie English : I live a bit out of Oslo in Bærum.

Didn't think of looking at earlier versions of PD in the Search function but the video link you kindly guided me to was the best clue. Seems I have also found another method for when music is not yet part of the editing ... it works for slides but one has to avoid adding any 'true video' to the Timeline until the slide show is produced first!
Using my method, I worked as follows:
- Produced Slide Show in basic form
- Opened a new project and placed this 'video' in the time line and adjusted its length using ctrl and the 'hand'
- Added other 'true videos, text, colour boards, effects etc.
- Added music/voice over as needed
- Produced this full version and all was correct

Thanks for your help
Ha det
Ron
