Splitting A Project into Smaller Segments
[Post New]
I am currently creating a somewhat large project (at least for my computers resources) and have decided to split the project into more manageable and less resource intensive segments.

I thought it would be a straight forward process of selecting segments in the timeline and doing a copy and paste into new projects. However, I am running into a few snags.

First of all when I slide the timer bar (or whatever the vertical line is called that shows where you are at in the project) and then I try to slide part of it to the right to select a range the first part of the line will move 1 or 2 frames to the left. The same thing happens if I have the right part of the range selected and want to move the left side. The right line will move 1 or 2 frames.

Does anyone have any tips on breaking a project into smaller segments and then rejoining them again when everything is finished? My project is very "beat" oriented to the music and even 1 or 2 frames off and it is ruined.

Any input would be appreciated.

Not really. I know how to cut and paste segments of a movie. The issue I am having is with the scrubber. I put it at the exact frame of the start of the segment I want to copy. When I attempt to drag the right part of it to select the region I want to copy, the left part of the scrubber shifts to the left a couple of frames. It also happens if I start at the end of the segment and move to the left.

I have tried it on several projects and it happens all the time. Is there a way to ensure that the scrubber will not move while selecting the region of a project you want to copy?

Thanks!

I have tried to reproduce what you are seeing and am having trouble. MAybe a couple of questions.

When you say..."When I attempt to drag the right part of it to select the region I want to copy, the left part of the scrubber shifts to the left a couple of frames."

Do you actually see the orange selection triangle on either side of the Blue scrubber bar shift over a couple of frames? One thing you might try, and this is what I did in a sample project...ZOOM in on your timeline right down to the frame level. Do you know how to do this? Use the Zoom slider control in the lower left of the open application and then zoom all the way in. Do you still see your selection move over a couple of frames? I attached a Screen Shot showing my sample project zoomed in to the frame level and I was able to select exactly the frame sequence that I wanted. This isn't possible for you?

or is it after you try producing the video file that you noticed it wasn't selected the way you wanted?

Could you try to describe when you see the selector move in more detail?

Best,

Kevin

Zooming down to frame level seemed to do the trick. I don't know why it keeps moving when I have it zoomed out. Maybe I have shaky hands?

I just wished when you moved the Range Selection to the right it would scroll the timeline when you reached the far right of the visible timeline. But I guess we can't have everything.

Thanks for your help!!!

Still on the subject of splitting projects ... I would like a bit of guidance about moving between projects.

The way in which I am controlling this when in PD is to save current, then File/Open New Project (or another recent file) but effectively this closes the first project and then open the new one. When returning to the first project (File/Recent Files) the programme reloads all the Timeline. Is this the correct approach

Or can you switch between projects as with eg Word/Excel etc. (I am guessing that the answer is 'no' but hoping ...) CYa Ron (W10/i5gen8/Nvidia)

I was looking into that as well and it look like you can only have 1 project open at a time. However, maybe one of the more "seasoned" users can elaborate further.
