Quote: Hi Ron,
(I guess Norwegian will not go well??)
skål

G'day Nina. Your norsk will be perfect ... mine is very uff! So lets please stick to Aussie English : I live a bit out of Oslo in Bærum.

Didn't think of looking at earlier versions of PD in the Search function but the video link you kindly guided me to was the best clue. Seems I have also found another method for when music is not yet part of the editing ... it works for slides but one has to avoid adding any 'true video' to the Timeline until the slide show is produced first!
Using my method, I worked as follows:
- Produced Slide Show in basic form
- Opened a new project and placed this 'video' in the time line and adjusted its length using ctrl and the 'hand'
- Added other 'true videos, text, colour boards, effects etc.
- Added music/voice over as needed
- Produced this full version and all was correct

Thanks for your help
Ha det
Ron
I rather like some of the canned slideshow possibilities but it seems that the lengths are predetermined by the number of slides and non adjustable eg if you set the individual slide length at 10sec or 20sec, the canned show is still the same overall length. If however you include music at this stage you can set the length of the slide show to match the music length ... but I usually add 'extras' later in my process. However, extending the slide show with 'longer' music seems not to be a solution because the slides are still the same individual length but get repeated over to match the music.

However ... I have got around this by producing the show to file eg mpeg2, importing it into PD10 then holding down the ctrl key, dragging the length to what I need and then adding any other content such as text, special effects etc.
Is this the correct solution

Might be of interest to other novices like me.
Had a bit more of a 'play' and the C00 files are definately not 'shadow' files. I restored them to the correct file (from my Bin) and then manually deleted the 'shadow files' ... these three were still on my Docs.

So I am going to simply get them off my pc and ... move on. Pity though not to find out what they really are because its likely that a lot of us could have massive files sitting doing nothing on our Docs.
Dafyd ... do you have an 'in' you can use to find out
I thought I would ask Cyberlink what are these C00 files and this is their answer ... might be helpful to some of us if indeed they are telling me what C00 files are? The files C00 that I am talking about were in 'My Docs/Cyberlink' etc and I do not have Shadow Files 'ticked' in the Preferences/General tab! My question was ...
I am getting large files left in Documents/Cyberlink/10 that have .C00 extensions.
What are these and can they be deleted?

I am sure that they are referring to something that I did not ask though perhaps this is where they were in PD8.

Thank you for contacting CyberLink Technical Support.

I understand that you are using CyberLink PowerDirector and you want to know about shadow files.

Please note that as a default the shadowed Edit files are stored in the location given below:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\CyberLink\PowerDirector\8.0\ShadowEditFiles

If you wish to Enable (creation of shadow files), you can use the steps given below:

1) Alt + C -> Preferences -> General Tab

2) Check "Enable File processing to speed up high definition video editing"

If you wish to disable (creation of shadow files), then you can manually delete the files :

1) Alt + C -> Preferences -> General Tab

2) Uncheck "Enable File processing to speed up high definition video editing"

Manually delete shadows - allows you to browse/choose which are deleted or
auto delete with a time choice in days.

If your system specifications are higher enough, then there is no need to generate shadows to speed editing and so they can be turned off.

Thanks Phil.
I think these files are some kind of 'disaster' file that get created when there is a major outage or some kind of specific problem. But as you say, maybe they are just created when you go to burn but don't want to save the detail afterwards.
I have dumped them into my pc Wastebin but will leave them there for a while ... just in case.
If there is a tech savvy out there it would be nice to know 'what is'.

What I just found on the net is ...
Part of a WinAce archive split up into two or more files; initial file created during the file-splitting process; saved with other parts, with .C01, .C02 extensions, etc.
... which don't mean a whole lot to me ... except that I originally compiled 3 videos onto my Timeline and I had three of these '.C' files.

... I NEVER have SVRT turned on..............

Thanks Bubba ... seems the best policy. Rendering speed is not really an issue for me since there are always other things to attend to when you are retired

Any chance that you know the answer to my other post ...
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/21442.page
In Docs/Cyberlink/PD/10 I have thre large files .C00/01/02 totalling about 2.5GB. They relate in time (somehow) to around the time when I produced and burnt 3 dvd copies of a recent large project mentioned in my other recent post.

What are they? Can I delete? I have packed my project and it seems complete in all respects.
I have just completed my first long video from primarily still pictures but adding transitions, effects and voice over/music. The end result was burnt using PD10 mpeg2 without difficulty providing that I disengaged the SVRT feature at the Produce stage.

Because of the size of my project … 400+ pictures and a final length of 1hr15min, I first made the video with some transitions etc but no sound. I Produced this in three 100+ pic sections mpeg2 PAL (with SVRT on) and the result was OK. I then joined these 3 videos in the Timeline and added more transitions/effects, sound tracks etc. Produced again (the SVRT was still selected) and the result was very poor, some missed voice tracks, noise, various sounds like ‘jammed’ tape machines etc and often poor picture quality.

When I unticked the SVRT I ended up with a quality result and a good burn … all with PD10 :

Am I doing something wrong with SVRT? I see that others have also experienced difficulties.

My pc is well spec’d with good graphics, i7 processor and 8GB memory.
When recording 'voice overs', I am getting irregularly timed 'click' sounds ... sound spikes. If I make the same recording in another programme the problem does not occur.

My PD10 voice over settings seem to be correct as best I can judge and I don't think that I have the record sound level too high ... its set at 80% giving a reasonable volume on the track without distortion. I am using an external, high quality, USB headset.

Any ideas please
Thanks Ron
Quote: The PD10 has an new interesting tool, Insert Project, with it you can merge two or more projects, the project inserted at the cursor position

Thanks for this ... looks to be an easy way to 'insert' from other projects. For my current 450 camera pics I have reached about 40% and made a MPEG2 of this which I can add/manipulate etc to the next sections ... at least I now know that I have a 'safe' video of this content. Is a good idea of yours to break it up into manageable content.

The more I get to use PD10 the better it gets

You're wise to be careful. We don't want any name calling!

Why didn't I think of the 'scrubber' location
All sorted ... except I foolishly changed some file names and had to do a bit of rework.
Thanks Tony.

- open the other project & place the scrubber where you want to paste

Sorry Tony ... what is the 'scrubber' in PD10 and I am being careful how I ask this question

... In Edit, can you copy and paste Timeline videos or pictures in one Project to another. I have a set order of pictures (only part of the total in the Timeline) and would like to copy them 'as is' to another Project.

I realise that one could do a 'Save As' under a different Project name and then delete the files not needed ... but maybe there is an easier way.

If you use many effects will be easier to correct errors

Good point Playsound, thanks for that tip.

You didn't call in!

By the way, copying & pasting images doesn't cause them to lose a single pixel.

Cheers - Tony

Didn't call in 'cause didn't get to NSW this time around ... home base was Vic & I can 'hear' your comments

I think this snow falling up here in Norway is freezing my brain ... of course you do not have jpeg losses when simply copying ... I am thinking of 'editing/save as etc, apologies Another embarrassment
I'm convinced gentlemen, thanks
I should have remembered that pictures and printing have different requirements to pictures and on screen viewing.

But, it was good that it gave me thinking time for I have also been struggling to get 400+ pics in the correct date order. We used 3 camera's on holiday at 'home' in Aussie (2x DSLR & a mob phone) and they each have different file numbering schemes. Within Windows Picture Folders and other viewing programmes you can easily view in Date order such that each pic from whichever camera is seen in the correct overall sequence. But the fun starts when importing them into PD10 ... sure they can be viewed in Date order but in individual File Date order so you end up searching 3 files (in my case) to select various pics for the Timeline.

I got around this by copying the pics I needed from the master Pictures Folder into a new pics folder. I then renamed all pics by selecting All and calling them 'Aussie' ... these copy pics then were numbered in sequence Aussie 1 - 400++. I imported them into PD10 ... problem solved. I know that when jpeg pics are copied (jpeg being 'lossy') that you tend to loose some definition but its the only way I could think of doing this in a quick and dirty way.

Unless there are other ways
Quote: I always add photos without knowing the size, PD will adjust to the size of the video is saved, if FullHD 1920x1080 to 720x480 for NTSC DVD or other sizes according to the selected output.

Hei,
I did reduce my pic file sizes ... each of many Mb's which makes for a very large PD project to Produce & Burn. I set them at 1920x (which is the pixel size at Full HD) and this made a huge difference to each of the picture 'bits' and a big reduction in the overall Project size. Can't really see the difference in pic quality ... yet ... though there are many other factors to picture size/resolution etc to consider. To do this size reduction easily, I use a programme that will allow me to process multiple files to the size that I want ... I use this programme also for printing pictures from an online supplier eg if I want standard 10x15cm pictures then I set the file size to this so as to (again) reduce the amount of upload time to the photo site.

If I am on the wrong track I will soon find out!
I am just starting to create a (primarily) picture slide presentation using PD10. All of my camera pics are large file/pixel sizes and it would be useful to reduce sizes to keep the overall project within a reasonable file size.
What is the minimum file/pixel picture size recommended for good TV 16:9 display definition ... it does not need to be full HD.

Edit ... Have done a bit of 'googling' and have the answers I need so this Post can be deleted thanks
Thanks for inputs.
I will send in the two discs just to be sure. The first that I produced in .avi and then burnt to dvd plays normally in the dvd player, as I would expect. The second is now the .avi file which won't open in my dvd player but can be opened WMP on the pc.

From what I have already learnt fro this forum, I usually make dvd's simply in MPEG2 ... quick and dirty! This .avi creates large files ...
Thanks Dafydd.

My 1st post here was the need to clarify a TV channel requirement for a short video that is being submitted to them. I wondered if PD10 enabled me to meet their stated need, viz:

If you are sending a video on DVD-ROM, it must be in AVI format and saved in full resolution (720 by 576 at 25 frames per second) for broadcasting purposes. Please ensure your computer editing program's project settings are PAL (625/50) upper field first and not NTSC (525/60)

I have easily Produced to AVI and then burnt a dvd using MPEG2 ... am I on the right track? Bit of a novice at this but having fun & learning fast!.
Ron
Perhaps I can ask ... is this what PD10 Produces in its AVI

Quote: AVI format and saved in full resolution (720 by 576 at 25 frames per second). Produce settings when PAL are (625/50)
