Poor quality of PD 10 (trial) H264 output.

I'm trying to get Power Director 10 (Trial) to render high quality video taken on my Panasonic SD9. The video is recorded in HX1920 (the lowest quality 1920 mode)

It renders very quickly to H264AVC but the quality is very jumpy compared with the original. Not helped by being a pan shot taken from a moving boat!

I have Windows 7 running on a Dell Studio i5 quad core with 8GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD5700 with 1GB memory.

PD trial 10.0.0.1012a
SR VDE110914-01
I use AVG free antivirus, and there may be remnants of Pinnacle and sony vegas (trial) on the machine.

I've attached short clip of the rendered version, which shows the poor quality, particularly on the white houses on the hillside. (I have tried sending the original as well but the forum link times out)

Also attach the diagnostic files.

Hope you can make some suggestions, I do like the way to edit in PD rather than vegas.

Ultimately I want to produce files that I can play on a HD TV via USB in either my Humax Foxsat (.ts files) or via a blue ray player system USB input.

What am I doing wrong?

First off, your video card driver is WAY out of date, go to ATI website, NOT Windows driver search.
Find your card, and get the update.
That's a good start. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Thanks Barry, I tried that but it managed to disable the games my better half uses (solitaire etc). Will try it again and see if it improves.

The trail is a LIMITED version and does not have all the H264AVC features..

For the actual (registered) version, the Graphic driver will be critical, so try to get the update problem resolved.
This (below) comes from the TRIAL requirements page and deserves your attention:
1. Accelerated video encoding on AMD graphics cards requires the user to install the AMD Media Codec Package, also known as the Avivo™ Package. This package is available as an optional download when obtaining an AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver for AMD desktop graphics and notebook graphics products, available at www.amd.com.

Thanks Fred, I'd seen that and downloaded, but it might have gone when i uninstalled the driver. I'll try again. Mark

Also, try turning OFF the Hardware Acceleration options in "Preferences" settings. The ATI editors here can address this better than I (I use Nvidia).

Is AVIVO still relevent? I was under the impression it was now a part of the driver package, and is not a separate download.
My ATI let's me click to update, without much involvement from me, before I had to do multiple package downloads. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

A little perplexed as to why the driver had negative effects on other programs/games.
Just follow the directions and see what happens.
For SURE, you need a newer driver.
I have both Nvidia and ATI, but my ATI is just a piker of a card.
NOTE: just took a peek at the download page. Can't hurt to get the AVIVO (formerly), but I still think it's part of the package anyway. An ATI guru must be here somewhere, even on ThanksGiving!

From my experience with the Trial you only have GPU Encoding as as working option (eg no CPU or SVRT), hence as others have said....having the correct version of the drivers is a must (From memory the installer does AVIVO install but you only see it get installed if you use the Custom option). Re: ATI vs nVidia - I can not really comment regarding the quality on the format you are rendering it "should" be OK with ATI but FYI I moved to nVidia as ATI can not renderer correctly 1080/50 or 60p correctly.

In the full version you should be OK without all HW Rendering turned off (so it just uses the CPU) but it will be slow. PD 64 Bit-Win10 64 Bit-32GB RAM-80TB HDD

Wow, that's great advice all round. Just been away for 4 hours and now looking forward to getting my teeth into trying to update the drivers, tho i guess I will have to take the plunge and get the full edition as well.

jmone you are correct that the Trial limits the settings for hardware encoding.

Hope you guys west of the European pond enjoy your turkeys tonight.

Thanks again

Check to see if the frame rates and interlacing are matched between that of the Panasonic and your rendered video output. Win 10, i7

ATI guru to the rescue!

before you start, degrag your pc.

1. First go to Dell or motherboard site, and update ALL the INTEL chipset drivers for your motherboard. Also, bios, if needed. be sure you get the correct ones for your system. Restart when finished.
2. Go to ATI and download catalyst : http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/integrated_win7-64.aspx#1
3, Go to ATI and download codec pack (avivo) http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#3
4. Do NOT install drivers at this time, ...... First Go to control panel and uninstall ALL ATI software.
5. restart PC
6. Wait until windows loads. It will find the vga driver. If is aks you if you want windows to find or install the driver, answer NO, and exit windows install.
7. Click on ATI catalyst downloaded file and Install the catalyst driver. Choose auto install.
8. restart
9. Install the ATI media codec package.
10. restart.
11. Go here and download the update driver for your Realtek sound card: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
12. Uninstall old driver, restart.
13. Install new, and restart.
14. degrag your PC. You are finished.
NOTE: You may ned to install the ATI HDMI driver. if so, get it here also: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Wow, is that normal procedure, or just for when it's screwed up, because I just click to get the update going, never an issue. I'm not doubting you, Guru-mon, just a little surprised at the extensive instructions.

Folks. This type of advice is excessive. Regardless of who makes the PC. Massive upgrades are rarely required in today's PC environment. Making such massive changes only asks for more problems. Win 10, i7

The ati instructions are standard for each driver update, and are the exact instructions in ati offical instructions, and on ati forum. Not following these instructions have lead to many driver related issues, per ati. I have followed these instructions on all my at I upgrades.

The Intel chipset drivers are unrelated to ati, but I noticed he has old chipset drivers. If you have a amd chipset motherboard, then amd has chipset drivers also.

Ati issues new drivers once per month.

The audio drivers are unrelated, but again he had old drivers.

The entire upgrade path I listed, took all his needs in consideration.

just to add....For Nvidia cards, Dell machines HAVE been a problem (especially the XPS machines) and NVIDIA also recommends the BIOS upgrade FIRST!

However, HDedit, you are correct to caution users, as making multiple changes at once can really complicate recovery.

Regardless of the ATI instructions, they've designed the interface to click-to-update from the newer AMD control panel, and we all agree the driver is too old. I've no doubt Mark45 is now a little confused about what to do.
