I just purchased an upgrade from PD 11 to PD 13. I noticed it has its own serial number. Is it a full installation? I'd like to remove my old version of PD to save disc space. Can I just remove PD 11 and install PD 13 or will it look for the PD 11 installation when it tries to install PD 13?

Thanks
Charles
Thanks I'll upgrade next month. Again, from your response it doesn't seem to matter which version of PD 12 or PD 13 I upgrade to (ultimate, ultra or deluxe). I presume they will all have the 23.976 frame rate.
Hmm but no comparison between 12 and 13. Do all of the versions of PD 12 and PD 13 support the 23.976 frame rate? Or is that one of the items in the "format support" chart?
I guess you're saying it's time to upgrade :

Is there a page of comparable features I can look at? All I can find are sales pages which lists a few pages and then says "and much more..." A lot of the features that are advertised I don't need, like more digital effects.

I have to edit a lot of 16mm film that was transferred at 23.976. When I try to edit a clip I get the error message that the frame rate should be change to 23.97.

Can I change the Preferences to 23.976? I don't see that option in PD 11. Can I edit the clips at 23.97 or will they be out of sync with the sound track?

Is frame rate 23.976 available in PD 12 or 13?

Thanks
Charles
It suddenly stopped crashing after several days without me doing anything. No idea why but it seems to be OK now.
The last time I used PD 11 was about a year ago on the same PC I'm using now (Windows without any problems. Now I can't use it for more than 10 minutes (roughly) without getting the CES_Cacheagent.exe crash. Any idea why? I have sent the crash report in. I've also upgraded to build 3625.

Thanks
Charles
OK thanks.
I'd like my no menu DVD to stop when it's finished and not replay from the beginning. Can I do this?

Thanks
Charles
Good point. Thanks Adrian. Don't want to have to search for the out-of-sync point in a 17 minute film. I'll try your method first because, as you say, that will hold the tracks where they are.

Now if I could only get the television industry to understand what "sync" means - I'm going crazy watching TV half the time, having been a film student and seeing all this out-of-sync content, sometimes but just a frame or two... but that's off topic, sorry ;

Thanks everyone.
Charles
That's even better! Thanks Car312!

Charles
Thanks! I think Adrian is closer to white I need to do - there's no crossfade needed - except where the tracks overlap in only a few cases. To illustrate further it's like this:

Roll A: __xx __xx _____xx________
Roll B: xx__xxx__xxxxx_____xxxx
(I was trying to leave the white bits empty but this editor won't leave the spaces - so I've made the x part where it's white)

The xx bits are white on each roll (was black on the negative) and the only overlapping cross-fade in my example is the last one.

I think selecting each white bit and altering the opacity should do it. I was worried about having to cut each one out and then align each and every shot with the next one.

Charles
I recently had an old black white 16mm film transferred to digital (from film school days). The negative was cut to make a print many years ago and it was done using the standard method of creating 2 negative rolls - A & B. This is done so that the overlapping points can be printed as dissolves. So for example, shot 1 is on roll A and shot 2 is on roll B etc. all the way through the film.

So now I have 2 video tracks with alternating shots, but between each image is a strip of solid white (where the image appears on the alternating roll). My question is, is there a way to select the solid white portions and make them transparent? Otherwise I will have to cut each one out and then realign the video track for every shot.

Thanks
Charles
OK, thanks for the speedy reply! Worked perfectly!

Charles
I see lots of old posts on this, but in PD 11 how do I create a DVD with no menu? If I select a "no menu" template it still shows a menu on the Preview screen.

Thanks
Charles
Sadly I just have an old Acer desktop with Pentium 4 and built-in Intel 910GL Express. What do you recommend for a graphics card? Sorry, if this should be another topic.

Charles
No I read it, thanks. Looks like that comment is just confirming that no matter what codec you try it won't work unless you can use hardware acceleration. I only have on-board graphics cards. But it does say the trial version so I presume the full version won't have this issue. As a work-around I've converted the files to mpeg.

Charles
The source is a digital camera. I've tried the trial version on 3 different computers with more than one mov file and it doesn't work on any of them.

I still maintain that it's a problem with the trial version.

Can someone else test this? There are several patches that have been issued since PD 10 was released. The one released on 2011-12-28 specifically says "Improves the Import and Production Compatibility of mov files". But as I said in my original post, none of the patches can be applied to the trial version.

Charles
Thanks Tony,

A quick search of programs shows xvid - not sure why it's there - I'll try uninstalling it. Should I remove DivX for now as well? Not sure if CD burning software influences this as well as something called "Picture Control Utility" and Nikon's own camera software.

Charles

Thanks Tony,

But I actually read this post and tried K-Lite before I even contacted Customer Support - not only did it not work it created major graphic problems on my PC and I had to uninstall it.

If the mov files work in other programs (like Premiere) is this not a PD rendering problem?
