I finally bought a copy of Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray, and was very disappointed to see that Cyberlink just uses a very bland white serif font for the subtitles, when the disc is encoded to use one in a typeface more appropriate to the art design of the film.

Is there any way to get PDVD to recognise the embedded font and use it for the subtitles? Stand-alone Blu-ray players can do it, so you'd think a software package should be able to.

Failing that, is there any way to specify the font and colour that PDVD uses for a specific film?

And failing that, could this please be considered as a feature for the next version, at least?
SO: no-one's heard of this?

I've logged a question with Cyberlink support, but still haven't had an answer.

Ye Gods but support for this product sucks!!
Hi Dude, thanks for at least understanding where I was coming from in my concern. I don't have a high level of confidence in what they're proposing, especially since they can't tell me what they might be looking for - that seems to suggest they haven't got a clue about the problem.
Yeah, I can get into my incident record. (Though it's lost my last big post, that I spent a lot of time editing so it was clear. Bugger!!)

Thanks for the heads-up, Michael.
Quote: Then, they replied to my question with:

"English is not my first language so I don't understand anything you wrote. Please state the question again in my native language or you will be forced to have a back and forth for months until you decide to solve the problem on your own (which I did) or ditch our software. Sincerely, we just don't care"

Blimey!

I can't imagine that would have been a Cyberlink employee who wrote that, though. Has their website been hacked, maybe?

I'm not sure why you're posting this, amandasmith. If you don't work for Cyberlink, how can you make such an assurance on their behalf? And why would you want to?

In any case, what you said is not correct. It's taken me a couple of months to get an answer out of Cyberlink, and just when a conversation had started, this happens. :annoyed:
I've got the same problem, tonyaglg.

At first, I thought it might be just my ticket, so in one sense I'm glad others are seeing this as well.

I'd just got through typing a very long and detailed description into a continuing conversation about an issue, and the system crapped out as I tried to post it, so I have no idea whether it got posted or not.
Ok, thanks mate.

Then is there a suggestion anywhere for the minimal specs for a video card that will avoid this issue arising?
Thanks, that's what I suspected. Does Cyberlink make available a list of which videocards, or their specifications, this happens with? So that people planning on using Power DVD can build an optimal system?
But if there are changes to be made to my Registry, why can't i simply be told what they areand do it myself? Or be given a .reg patch?

Would *you* want someone who is uncertain about the issue poking around in your Registry, changing things in the hope that they might get it working?

The problem is that the region is locked to A and the number of allowed changes set to zero - right off the bat, from the first installation. Surely Cyberlink knows where that information is stored. Why can it not just tell me what file to delete or modify?
I think it must be disc-related. In my case, Aero usually functions just fine even when I've got a Blu-ray running, but on some titles, Aero shuts down every time those titles play.

So I wonder: Can BD-Java do things like shut down Aero, or is it a Windows-generated thing based on resource demands? Or is it coming from PowerDVD, based on the coding of those discs?
Doesn't always work though, Michael -- even if you tell PDVD to leave Aero switched on, there are still times when it just switches Aero off anyway.

Is this a bug, or intentional activity on PDVD's part under certain circumstances?
(And is there any info on what those circumstances are?)
Michael,
Thanks. Since posting here, I've had a reply from Cyberlink tech support.

They want to do a remote session log-in into my PC, and have said they may have to change some keys in my Registry. I've asked if they can tell me what needs to be changed and let *me* do it. (I hate tech support people changing stuff on your PC, because they never tell you what they've done, and then they go away and you're let to deal with any possible consequences, including those for other apps.) But I've had no reply.
Add my vote please for this feature in the next version.
Thanks for your help Michael. The case number is CS001087951, but that's a new case since the previous ones went nowhere and I'd lost reference to the numbers.

Tech support keeps saying it's "researching", but then I hear nothing more - certainly no resolution, but not even any update on the "research".

Sorry to sound like I'm complaining. It's because I am! I'm very annoyed that Cyberlink took my money, but hasn't expended any energy in getting their software working for me. It's really not OK.
Hi Michael,
1) Yes, it's a full commercial retail Blu-ray disc from Alliance in Canada, bought through Amazon.ca. I don't have any ripped or cracked software or discs.
2) I've had to buy DVDFab just so I can play discs of my own BD region (RRegion B), since my installation of PowerDVD is locked on Region A and tech support has done nothing to resolve the matter. But in this case, since the disc is Region A, I can close down DVDFab.

I rebooted the computer without DVDFab loading, and I still get the same error, exactly as quoted in my OP. The disc plays fine through the enforced trailers, but as soon as it goes to load the movie i get the Jive Tree error.

It only happens with one disc out of a couple of hundred. I doubt it's a hardware issue directly, unless it's to do with copy protection.

Do you have any idea what the error refers to? I couldn't find any reference to it on the Cyberlink or DVDFab forums or on the broader internet.
Quote: some users of PowerDVD 11 have issues with the region code locked to 'A' and no changes left.

Thanks for this info, excalibur. I'm someone who's been experiencing this exact problem with PowerDVD Ultra 11 since first installing it, and have had overwhelming silence from Cyberlink tech support. ( )

I've gone the route of removing all reference to Power DVD (in any version) from my system, including hand-editing the Registry, and it hasn't fixed the problem for me.

I've had half a dozen replies from tech support saying "We understand the problem, and are researching it", followed by weeks of silence, until I contact them again and get the same reply, over and over. Bloody useless. No idea what exactly they're "researching", since they've asked me no questions at all, about either the problem or the configuration of my system.

If it's simply a matter of deleting a configuration file - either the brs.dat or smething else hidden - surely Cyberlink could whip up some sort of automated tool to resolve the problem? Or are they just like so many companies, and assume that everyone on the planet is either American or doesn't matter? My money was good enough for them, so why isn't my satisfaction with their product?

We just need the tech stuff to work right.

Absolutely +1
Sorry? Your post makes no sense.
I'm having a problem with playback of a Blu-ray (the Alliance Canada release of Scream 4) in Power DVD. It plays through all the enforced (grrr!) trailers with no problems, but when it comes to the film itself, it halts with this message:

Can't load Jive Tree! caught: Java.lang.NoDefFound class error

and the disc stops playing. It won't respond to any command other than Stop. Reloading the disc, or cold booting the PC and reloading the disc, only results in the same error.

Can anyone shed any light on this, please?
