AnitaJ, I'd probably do some searches and reading in these forms on laptops and discrete graphic cards with PD. More often than not, PD is not configured to use the discrete GPU via Nvidia Optimus. Because of that, PD will simply use the iGPU regardless of which discrete GPU you purchase. The UHD Graphics 620 iGPU which is part of the Inspiron 7000 i5-8265U CPU will be used by PD by default. However, many other applications can take advantage of the discrete GPU.
There are laptop BIOS settings that one can utilize to disable the iGPU so it will always use the discrete GPU but to my knowledge the Inspiron BIOS does not have that feature, unless changed recently. In Dells laptop product line, the Precision series typically have this feature.
would the Intel® UHD Graphics 620 with shared graphics memory be a better grphics card?
Thanks,
Anita
As this is an Integrated Graphics Card, the UHD Graphics 620 doesn’t have any memory of its own. I would always go with a dedicated graphics card. Therefore, the MX250 would be a better option.
I am looking at buying a new latop - a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 - which has the following graphics card:-
NVIDIA® GeForce® MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 graphics memory
Is this card compatible with Powerdirector 365 and/or Powerdirector 17? I am not really sure what the difference is between Powerdirector 17 and 356 is - at this stage I am thinking of going for 365 but would like to know if the card is compatible with both.
Thanks in advance .. Anita
Compatible.....sure. It's not a very powerful card though. It's a class 2 entry level Laptop card, but it will handle PD.....just be prepared to edit at lower resolution settings in the TL and don't expect fast rendering. As for your other question...PD17 is the stand alone product, and 365 is the subscription version. If you want constant content updates, then go with the 365, otherwise, stick with PD17.
QuoteLook at this: all I did was press the 'home' key to go to the beginning of the clip. It took PD 1 minute and 12 sec. to process it...
So, this may not be a very popular comment, but I'll make it anyway. I think that sometimes, some people are trying to use PD as a professional grade piece of software. It isn't. It's a domestic product costing under $100. It's designed to make You Tube videos and family videos. I worked as a television Director for 16 years using professional versions of software like this...Avid, Lightworks etc. Those devices were dedicated boxes that only did one thing.......edit television and film productions, and they sometimes had issues. I think that if you're looking to make complex productions, you need to be evaluating a product better suited to your needs. Power Director isn't it. I've edited a bunch of corporate and family videos using PD17, and I've yet to have an issue. I honestly think that you're trying to drink champagne on a beer budget. Just my opinion.
QuoteOne method, put a white colorboard in video track 1, with your video clips in track 2, apply a fade to end of clip 1 and another fade at the start of clip 2.
This will fade the first clip out to white, and then from white fade into the color of the second clip.
Jeff
I do this all on track one, where the white borad is simply another video source. By adding two cross fade transitions, I dissolve to it, and then from it to a new clip. The end result is a fade to white and a fade up from white.
QuoteHere is a screenshot. It's not that the audio is not playing back. It's just not there. Audio plays back when I preview a clip from the media room pane. When I drag the clip onto the timeline, though, the audio is not present.
I think that would probably be a temp file issue. I'd start by going to settings and then uncheck the "Auto Delete Temporary files" option. See if the waveforms now load. If that doesn't work, go to.....
C: \ Users \[user_name] \ AppData \ Roaming \ CyberLink \ PowerDirector \ 17.0 \Cache \ WaveForms folder and then delete all the temporary files.
QuoteI have my main storyline videos on track 1 and B roll on track 2. When I change the speed (length) of a video on track 2 it inserts a space and moves all the videos on track 1, which I don't want to happen.
Thanks
Another option...........In order to fill that gap and bring the other clips back in sync, hold down your left mouse button on an empty track on the timeline and then move your cursor. You will see a box start to emerge. Every clip that that box touches will be selected. You can then move all of those selected clips at the same time to fill your gap.
Thanks for reading. I am trying to show a moving line on a map.
I thought the easiest way to do that would be to have to pictures of the same map, put the line on the overlay picture and transition it in with a wipe from left to right.
It works great accept for the wipe is not really transparent, there is a grey vertical blur that moves with the transition's wipe.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I searched the forum and cannot find anyone trying this.
Thanks,
Joel
Take a look at this tutorial from Smarter Turtle and see if it solves your problem.
QuoteI am a complete newbie. I've just managed to produce my first video and now want to move on to doing a different one but I can't see how I can clear out the previous work from the track section other than by clicking on each clip and deleting. Is there are "start new project option somewhere that I am missing"?
