MOV files - No Audio in Timeline

I imported a bunch of files off of my Zoom camera which records in the MOV format. On the first try, there was no audio in PD17 whatsoever. Some searching suggested I install Quicktime. I did. Now, there is audio when I select the clip in the Media Room and play it. When I drag it to the timeline, however, there is no audio on the timeline. Can someone please tell me how to get these clips into the timeline with their audio?

Thanks,
Seth

Without a screen shot of your timeline it's hard to know what's going on, so please make sure that the speaker icon is checked at the far left end of the timeline, and also make sure that the thin white horizontal bar under the clip name (the volume level) isn't at the very bottom of the clip:

If you hover your mouse cursor over the line and you haven't changed the volume, it should read something lile +0.0, which is dead center. A negative inifinity symbol ( -∞ ) means it's muted.

Here is a screenshot. It's not that the audio is not playing back. It's just not there. Audio plays back when I preview a clip from the media room pane. When I drag the clip onto the timeline, though, the audio is not present.

I think that would probably be a temp file issue. I'd start by going to settings and then uncheck the "Auto Delete Temporary files" option. See if the waveforms now load. If that doesn't work, go to.....

C: \ Users \[user_name] \ AppData \ Roaming \ CyberLink \ PowerDirector \ 17.0 \Cache \ WaveForms folder and then delete all the temporary files.

I found a solution, but it's an annoying solution:

VLC player has a conversion utility built in. I converted the MOV files to MP4 files in VLC. Now they work just fine.

Is there a way to get PD17 to handle MOV files natively?

There isn't an issue with MOV files in general, but PD clearly has a problem with your specific clips. It's very strange that you can preview them with audio in the media library, yet there isn't even an audio track when you place it on the timeline.

Conversion via VLC or another free app like Handbrake or VirtualDub2 is certainly an option, but if you can share a short sample by uploading it to a cloud folder and pasting the link here, we'll be able to examine it and test it on our systems.

It would also help if you could please follow the steps listed in the Read Me Before Posting sticky thread and run the DxDiag test. Attach the results here, along with a screenshot of PD's version screen as well.
