Hi Ben.
I don't proclaim to be an expert in audio mixing in any way, but if it helps, my video camera records in 2 channel Dolby Digital (ie stereo). When I output my movies on DVD via PD8, I output them in Dolby Digital 5.1 via the sound options in the Produce tab. I'm not sure how PD8 mixes my 2 channel into 5 channels plus sub; I guess it's got its own algorithm, and my DVDs actually play in 5.1 !!
Hope it helps.

Jorgen,
Ton answer your file extension question, PD8 outputs in pretty much anything you can imagine. The main ones being AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, H264.AVC, WMV, RM. Moreover, all these files formats have sub-menus for different qualities (video and audio compression) and program options. Example, WMV has 40 sub-options for different bit rates depending on the quality/output file size you desire, and depending if you want to output for Windows media 8 or Windows media 9...
It also outputs directly to youtube and facebook and formats the videos properly for the websites. It also outputs to DVD(mini, std or dual layer), blu-ray, AVCHD, video CD via direct to disc, or by creting a files for later burning...
As far as your camera playing to TV, the best output you can get via component is 1080i. If you want to take full advantage of 1080p, you need hdmi cables, either STD or mini, depending on what your camera requires.
I personally run my HDD HD camera right through my PS3 via usb to my 1080p HDTV and it looks stunning and I get full quality!
I have used PD8 for a little over a month now (my first video editing software) and despite some initial growing pains, and 10 DVD-coasters, I really love how easy it is to use and how simple/quick it is to create simple internet-ready files to send via email to the family...
Hope this answers your questions.

It took me a while to find a solution to my numerous crashes until someone suggested to uncheck "enable file processing to speed up high definition video editing" under EDIT/PREFERENCES/GENERAL tab.
I did and I have been making dvds, AVIs, WMVs etc, and not crashed since!
Try that!

Hi Bobby,
I had the same thing as you. I bought an HP computer and it came with Cyberlink DVD suite deluxe. But unfortunately, it's the DVD suite that is deluxe, not power director... Power Director was not even deluxe as I remember, because it would not let me import AVCHD files... shame. I had to buy the upgraded version, I got PD8 Ultra, and I really don't regret my choice...
My guess is that you are in the same boat...
Good Luck!

Hi Tony.
Thanks for the reply. Your post is precisely where my problem lies. I created a new template, but it loads up with the "Sports" music... I can't seem to be able to get rid of that Sports music if I create new or if I modify...
There must be something I am doing wrong...

That's not the way I wanted to get that Sports tune removed, but I'll take that muted file, it's the 70% solution in my book.
Nice work!

Hello!
I tried designing a DVD menu for the DVDs I produce, and it seems PD8 loads up sports background music as a default for the menus. Although I can remove that music manually, I was wondering if there is a way for ME to set the default music for my menus when I design them?
Thanks!

So I tired burning a DVD and I got the same error!!! geeesh!
But then, I unchecked the option as suggested, and I just burned my first DVD! Yay. Let's hope this lasts.

I've figured out that I can "magically" add a transition to all my pictures in a slideshow type movie. Can I do that same with movie clips? I've inserted 10 AVCHD clips and inserting the same transition between all the clips is time consuming, wondering if there is a "insert to all clips" option?
Thanks!

I had this error as well and wasted 10 DVDs trying to fix it. I have Windows 7, an HP DV3-2154ca (dual core 2.1 Mhz, 4GB RAM) so making DVDs should not have been a problem. I could burn to file, but during playback, the last 3 minutes of video would be missing, but not the audio! Go figure. I had the latest build 2704.
Anyways, I tried everything with regards to drivers on my computer, updated anything that could be updated from the HP website, and decided the program was the culprit... I uninstalled PowerDirector 8 and reinstalled, burned to file, and I got a complete Video file this time! Yay!. I burned it to DVD with Windows and the DVD works great. Now, I have to go to best buy and get more DVDs and I will try to burn directly to DVD, wish me luck.
As an aside, is it normal that it took 1.5 hours to render my project? it was 28 minutes of AVCHD with 2 speaker digital sound that I asked powerdirector to convert in 5.1 ??
