Hello Kind Moderators,

I've read through about 20 pages of this forum and found one listing with the same error I have constantly been receiving. Unfortunately, there were no string replies. Here is Vincint's message:

Hello, Has anyone gotten the following message while trying to burn a DVD?

"Burning unsuccessful, possible causes AuthoringMgr could not do file access for temporary files."

I burned a short project (10 min) with no problem. This project was longer (2:20)

Thanks,

I get the same message very frequently. In fact, it is rare that I can successfully burn to either DVD or file without getting the message.

Here are things I've tried:
o Restart computer and open only PD8 and try to create disk.
o Produce an MP4 file of the project. I do this successfully.
o Try reloading files from the camera files to the project.

My systems are up-to-date with latest patch for PD8. I am using HP dv6 PC with 4G RAM, and lots of disk space available. I had this issue with my previous PC too, a HP dv-5000. As I say, once in a blue moon I do get a succsesful write, but there is not ryme or reason why. Usually, it will be if I have freshly restarted the PC. I am the only user on the PC. So, if creating a DVD disk or write to file works sometimes, it should work consistently, I would think. As with Vincint above, my projects range from 20 minutes to close to an hour, with camera segments loaded in. I don't add much more other than maybe a title to the project. So, I feel these are pretty simple projects. Oh, my camera is a Canon Vixea HF200.

I need to add that I have Windows 7 running on all my PCs. I had some issues like this also when I had XP as well.

Drew:
The Latest build of Powerdirector 8 is 2704.

You should upgrade to the latest build.

Another thing you could try after upgrading to Build 2704 is to uncheck Enable file processing to speed up high definition video editing. Found on General Tab of Preferences (Alt+C) By unchecking that option, that will stop the shadow files. I have this exact problem. Wasted like 6 DVDs and have opened a case with Cyberlink for help, but as they charge you to support a product you have just bought from them, by phone, I've been struggling back and forth via e-mail for about 2 weeks with no luck, so far. I hope they realize that this is a main functionality of their product and it should work or they should provide good support. I will also try what's suggested here, but I'm wondering how it will affect program performance. Should we just leave that box unchecked permanently? What does it do? I have a similar build as you and running Windows 7. I'm very disappointed with Cyberlink's "support" so far.

Hello Samer.
If your computer is fast enough and you have plenty of memory. You can leave that box unchecked permanently.

The File processing is only for computers that are too slow and not enough memory.

I have a quad core CPU, 4 GB ram and a GPU that supports MP4 files.
I do not experience problems burning DVD (I don't have Blu-Ray).
One thing I do, instead of burning a DVD, I burn a DVD folder. uncheck the Burn DVD. I burn the DVD with third party software from the folder.

Thanks Carl! I think it actually worked. At least it burned this time. I really appreciate your help. Wish I would have gone through this forum a couple weeks ago, instead of e-mailing tech support. And yes.. I have a 3.0 GHZ Quad Core with 4 GB Ram and Windows 7.

I had this error as well and wasted 10 DVDs trying to fix it. I have Windows 7, an HP DV3-2154ca (dual core 2.1 Mhz, 4GB RAM) so making DVDs should not have been a problem. I could burn to file, but during playback, the last 3 minutes of video would be missing, but not the audio! Go figure. I had the latest build 2704.

Anyways, I tried everything with regards to drivers on my computer, updated anything that could be updated from the HP website, and decided the program was the culprit... I uninstalled PowerDirector 8 and reinstalled, burned to file, and I got a complete Video file this time! Yay!. I burned it to DVD with Windows and the DVD works great. Now, I have to go to best buy and get more DVDs and I will try to burn directly to DVD, wish me luck.

As an aside, is it normal that it took 1.5 hours to render my project? it was 28 minutes of AVCHD with 2 speaker digital sound that I asked powerdirector to convert in 5.1 ??

JF.
I would think that render time is well within what is expected.

Render depends on many many factors. The more changes you make from the original footage, the longer it takes. Be happy it only took 1.5 hours.

I had a slower computer a while back, It took about a half a day to render one to two hours of Mpeg2 on that computer. We are not talking about HD video, just standard 720x 480 video. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

OK, I updated to the latest version ( I should have checked that ) Then, selected off the feature for "enable file processing". I ran a create disk to file operation and it succeeded! I'll continue to work with disk and file, and hopefully will have much better luck now. Thank you very much!!!

Hello Guys.

I am Glad that you got your problems solved.

Just remember to watch the amount of data to burn to a DVD. Powerdirector is high on its estimate of the space needed on a DVD.
Powerdirector will refuse to create the DVD folder if the estimate says data will not fit on the DVD disk selected. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

I have got to tell you...you rule. That checkbox fixed me up as well. I have been fighting with this issue since day 1. Tech support had me reinstall about 5 times and uninstall other software and all to no avail. THANK YOU for this advice...now I can finally burn my own DVD's!!!!

Any suggestions for when unselecting that option doesn't work? I was able to burn several discs when I first purchased this program but ever since the first couple of days, I get this error. I was very anxious to try the option that was suggested, but unfortunately there was no change.

Thanks in advance!

Shane,
Have you tried just burning a DVD folder and unchecking Burn DVD disk?

Once you have a DVD Folder, you can use third party burning software to make the DVD disk. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

I think Carl is doing great here answering all your question. I'd like just to add one additional task all of you should consider.

Get rid of all the junk temp files you're creating and clogging your system up with. I've used CCleaner successfully to clean up my system - you have to be careful with using these types of programs.

When was the last time you defragged your drives?

Oh crap!!!!

I wasted 6 DVDs but none worked. By unchecking the box in general tab couldn't sove the problem.
first i was able to burn disc, and then i burned another project soon after that, it gave me the error of unsuccessful burn. hen i tried to burn again and wasted 6 DVDs in 4 hours.
Even i restarted my computer twice and reconstructed my project. t
It is really not fair.
