It was the one that came packaged with the free DivX Plus Converter. And I know just what you mean ... Sony has gotten away from why I kept going back to them for my laptops ... and no where near the supportive pro-user it was years ago ... just didn't realize how bad it's gotten. And what's up with this tweaking everything so that you can't update EXCEPT through them ...
Well so much for the rants ... too tired to be nice. I did play around with it a bit more just now and there are some stability issues ... might be in the new drivers ... maybe have to play with it a bit. Once you play the imported file ... it goes to black and you just get audio until you click or double click on it ... anyway I've decided that can wait a day or so.
Hope everyone is having a good week! Hard to get motivated after a holiday!
Friends ... and I mean that ... thanks for all your advice and assistance. It's been a long day that I'll probably have to pay heck to catch up for this evening.
I did manage to force the update of the graphics drivers ... lordy what a process that was, basically removing the old and getting around the glitches to install the new. There were complications with whatever Sony has done to their tweaking of the software for Vaio.
The sad thing was ... didn't do a darn thing. Created some issues with other software ... but that's another issue.
Then a desparate search of issues with one of those pieces of software .... I found reference to the DivX Codec packs ... so what did I have to loose ... unlike the other codec pack ... or maybe because of the driver upgrade and then the DivX pac ... it's handling MP4's and so far looks like they are useable.
I'm dead tired and probably after catching up with work related ... work ... I'll play with it some to see if there are other issues ... but as of this moment ... so far ... so good.
And I really do thank all of you fine folks for suggestions and directions to pursue this ... I think I've aged about 6 months in the last 24 hours .... but darn I hate for something to get the best of me ... especially when it's something like this!
OH ... forgot to say that when I tried to install the updates on that link ... just kept getting that it was not validated for this laptop ... had to go to Sony and Sony doesn't have that level of update available for it.
Well ... the saga continues ... can't use the drivers from that site ... and when I used they're automatic detection software to try to figure it out ... got this message
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
So went to Viao/Sony's site and updated the Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family to Driver 7.15.10.1637 which is the most current one they have available
AND ... tada ... still no joy in Mudville ... same error. The program no likey MP4's
Quote:....
Just so I am clear...We are talking about the error:
Thanks ... that's very strange ... it won't allow me to import it into version 9, gives me the message:
"An error occured while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different video format. this media type is not supported."
IS THAT CORRECT??
......
Suggest you try the "Media Accelerator" version. This should get you to 8.15.10.2226 from 7.15.0010.1637 and update VBIOS at the same time .
Please make a restore point for your piece of mind.
Yes sir that's correct ... same error that comes up each time.
I'll try the update and see what happens ... thanks guys.
I've attached the file you asked for ... and as far as the path the MP4's are usually saved to the harddrive in a folder under "Pictures". I did move a couple to the desk top and that resulted in the same issue when trying to load it.
Well ... the re-install and the magic "cleaner file" didn't work ... and unfortunately installing the Codec files didn't make any difference. I'm guessing it's down to ... Vista 64 bit operating system isn't working on Version 9 ... at least on this point.
Well ... I'll wait another two days for the tech's response
Well actually reinstalling all the software is a hassle ... at least for me ... takes a lot more time than I have available.
Finally got several responses from Cyberlink Tech. Support ... links for down loading it again ... and a cleaner program. The cleaner program the guy told me to use to uninstall all Cyberlink programs ... didn't do that ... matter of fact once activated it says it's finished in ... maybe a second ... program is still there. So I'm going in the old fashion way and removing everything ... then use the program ... then will try a reinstall of the NEW files that I already have ... I don't know ... just don't think it's an effective option ... the support response was more something he cut and pasted ... not specifc to the question I actually asked him ...
Getting close to just going back to version 8 or on to Sony Vegas
OH and on a good note ... the customer support from the folks at Smart Sound ... WOW ... you couldn't find a nicer, more helpful bunch of folks! BIG THUMBS UP!
Maybe it's my getting older ... but the things that should make my life easier or more rewarding like an improved piece of software that I pay hard earned money for ... shouldn't complicate my life or increase the level of my frustration.
You know the hassles of backing up all the data on my vista machine ... to upgrade the software (forget the price) and then rebuild all the programs ... just so this one piece of software really will work ... geesh ...
So far the MP4 glitch is all I've found with it ... how freaking hard is that to patch over? And yeah the lack of customer support response without paying $29 is frustrating me a bit too.
OK ... back to find some coffee and smile instead of being the cranky old fart!
Cost of the software upgrade to PD 9 and now even though it is advertised as Vista compatible ... I need to go through the hassles and additional expense of upgrading the software of my computer?
Sony's new Vegas is working perfectly on Vista 64, Adobe After Effects CS5 is working perfectly in Vista 64 .... I don't know call me weird ... but since Cyberlink said it was Vista compatible .... kinda thought they might actually have meant that.
Not ragging on you fellows ... and maybe I'll upgrade to 7 ... but kinda makes me question the PD 9 upgrade now. I mean heck it's working for some folks in XP!
Still no response from Cyberlink Customer "support" but upon further digging there's a link (not easily found) for a "vista ready test". It installs CLvistagene.cab and test your PC's software for vista ... it gives me this message "denotes that your CyberLink software requires updating to become "Vista Ready" " Now that's very interesting since version 8 was .. and now with the latest version of PD 9 .. it needs an update ... and there are no updates????
I'll give Cyberlink another day ... then I guess I've got no other option but to go the refund route and back to Version 8 or on to another software altogether.
I really do appreciate everyone here and their assistance in trying to help me out. Good bunch of folks here.
If I ever hear anything from Cyberlink ... I'll post here the update.
Oh yeah plays fine in any of the programs on my PC .. runs well in After Effects CS5 too ... clip seems not to be an issue itself and it also work just fine as recently as this morning in PD 8 when I rendered a video using those clips. Now with PD 9 it refuses to load, run or acknowledge MP4's
So far no response from Cyberlink's technical service ... and I'll be darn if I'm going to pay $29 for them to help me fix a problem with the software. While I've really enjoyed PD8 I can't say much for the company as far as customer service or tech support. Shame
Did my second uninstall and reinstall with no joy. Still won't accept MP4's ... anyone running P9 Ultra64 on Windows Vista 64? Could you try the file and see if it'll run for you?
Just did that ... no joy. Reinstalled all three of the programs installed by PD9 and reinstalled. Same situation.
Working with Smart Sounds now on the purchased sounds issue ... can't get it to acknowledge those songs even though they are there in the files ... it also won't let me update the SS program ...
During this install I also made sure no firewalls or virus software was operational ... so I'm at a bit of a loss. Especially since you folks are able to use the mp4 I uploaded. Maybe if I do an uninstall and also remove any file folders left on the PC after the uninstall ... before I reinstall ... maybe ...
Smart Sound ... still having a bit of a problem but I think with the help of their customer service I'll be able to recover that issue.
QT ... is installed on my system and like I said before, importing of these MP4's in version 8 was simple and worked well. But still get the same error even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it just now. No joy.
