Importing MP4 video clips and previous Smart Sound purchases

First thing out of the gate that I encountered was that MP4 clips from my Sony T90 are no longer supported by version 9 ultra64. What gives?

Smart sound purchases that I made in version 8 are no where to be found and there's no listing for those in the interface so that I can reinstall them like there was in version 8.

Has anyone encountered this ... have any advice or suggestions? Just about ready to exercise the 30 day refund and go back to version 8 where life was simple

Post a short native clip from the sony (few secs) to allow others to test it on their systems.

Can't really help on SS, it's a bit of a closed book (so to speak) to me. Others will know.

Cheers

Hi Ralloh,

Your problem with SS is a known issue from the beta-
testing. If you can't find your purchased music anywhere,
can you download again, if you don't have a CD?
Are you on an XP?
Do you have Sonicfire?
During beta, I had to uninstall/reinstall Sonifire, uninstall
SS (for good) and reinstall my purchased music. At the time
I was running XP 32-bit.
Others had the same problem.
Just something.

I could download it if it showed in the SS files on the program ... have to wait a few more hours to contact SS tech's so maybe they might enlighten me on another option to do that.

No Sonicfire
Running Vista (64 bit system)

Thanks for your input though

Thanks ... that's very strange ... it won't allow me to import it into version 9, gives me the message:

"An error occured while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different video format. this media type is not supported." Then it list the file location address.

Well ... very strange.

Your MP4 import issue almost sounds like the QT problem. Do you have Quicktime installed? If not, maybe install and post results.

How many SS purchases did you make? Your account at Smartsound should list them.
Did you ever make a backup of your SS group of folders?
It's easy, after you get your files straightened out,
OPEN SS module by clicking on the icon bottom-left near the timelines.
once it opens, click on Smartsound logo
click on folders tab
click on browse this folder
COPY the ENTIRE group of folders, and after that, every time you buy new tracks, browse to the SOUND FILES folder, locate the new music by name, and copy those individual files to the SOUND FILES in your previous backup. EVERY TIME!
That being said, Smartsound has very good customer service.

Thanks folks ... let's see

Smart Sound ... still having a bit of a problem but I think with the help of their customer service I'll be able to recover that issue.

QT ... is installed on my system and like I said before, importing of these MP4's in version 8 was simple and worked well. But still get the same error even after uninstalling it and reinstalling it just now. No joy.

Hmmm

Your clip imported to the media library and transferred to the timeline OK on both my Win 7 64 bit and my XP SP3 32bit systems. Both are running PD9 2316.

Perhaps an uninstall and reinstall of PD might correct things??

Cheers
Adrian

Just did that ... no joy. Reinstalled all three of the programs installed by PD9 and reinstalled. Same situation.

Working with Smart Sounds now on the purchased sounds issue ... can't get it to acknowledge those songs even though they are there in the files ... it also won't let me update the SS program ...

During this install I also made sure no firewalls or virus software was operational ... so I'm at a bit of a loss. Especially since you folks are able to use the mp4 I uploaded. Maybe if I do an uninstall and also remove any file folders left on the PC after the uninstall ... before I reinstall ... maybe ...

Did my second uninstall and reinstall with no joy. Still won't accept MP4's ... anyone running P9 Ultra64 on Windows Vista 64? Could you try the file and see if it'll run for you?

I have a win7 64 bits and get the same results as Adrian, your clip imported to the media library and transferred to the timeline OK. Looks like someone with a vista64 needs to give it a try for more definitive comparison. Does the clip play fine for you in QT or WM?

Oh yeah plays fine in any of the programs on my PC .. runs well in After Effects CS5 too ... clip seems not to be an issue itself and it also work just fine as recently as this morning in PD 8 when I rendered a video using those clips. Now with PD 9 it refuses to load, run or acknowledge MP4's

So far no response from Cyberlink's technical service ... and I'll be darn if I'm going to pay $29 for them to help me fix a problem with the software. While I've really enjoyed PD8 I can't say much for the company as far as customer service or tech support. Shame

Still no response from Cyberlink Customer "support" but upon further digging there's a link (not easily found) for a "vista ready test". It installs CLvistagene.cab and test your PC's software for vista ... it gives me this message "denotes that your CyberLink software requires updating to become "Vista Ready" " Now that's very interesting since version 8 was .. and now with the latest version of PD 9 .. it needs an update ... and there are no updates????

I'll give Cyberlink another day ... then I guess I've got no other option but to go the refund route and back to Version 8 or on to another software altogether.

I really do appreciate everyone here and their assistance in trying to help me out. Good bunch of folks here.

If I ever hear anything from Cyberlink ... I'll post here the update.

Hi Ralloh,

I for one dodged the Vista route as my operating OS simply because it was wrought with problems for editors. I doubt any software company will seek a new product to be reverse compatible to vista. Have you considered upgrading your OS to w7 - most of us have now migrated to that platform.
