Hi Ralloh,

I for one dodged the Vista route as my operating OS simply because it was wrought with problems for editors. I doubt any software company will seek a new product to be reverse compatible to vista. Have you considered upgrading your OS to w7 - most of us have now migrated to that platform.

Dump Vista, go 7, it's similar to Vista, but works, and is safer. look for a deal, it's Christmas.

Cost of the software upgrade to PD 9 and now even though it is advertised as Vista compatible ... I need to go through the hassles and additional expense of upgrading the software of my computer?

Sony's new Vegas is working perfectly on Vista 64, Adobe After Effects CS5 is working perfectly in Vista 64 .... I don't know call me weird ... but since Cyberlink said it was Vista compatible .... kinda thought they might actually have meant that.

Not ragging on you fellows ... and maybe I'll upgrade to 7 ... but kinda makes me question the PD 9 upgrade now. I mean heck it's working for some folks in XP!

I see your point, but you will eventually go to 7, we all will, then the next version, next version, service pack, next version, and so on.
That being said, we must be missing something here.

Maybe it's my getting older ... but the things that should make my life easier or more rewarding like an improved piece of software that I pay hard earned money for ... shouldn't complicate my life or increase the level of my frustration.

You know the hassles of backing up all the data on my vista machine ... to upgrade the software (forget the price) and then rebuild all the programs ... just so this one piece of software really will work ... geesh ...

So far the MP4 glitch is all I've found with it ... how freaking hard is that to patch over? And yeah the lack of customer support response without paying $29 is frustrating me a bit too.

OK ... back to find some coffee and smile instead of being the cranky old fart!

Just like the forum on a good day. Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. (see below)

It won't be a hassle. I upgraded from Vista to Win7 in place, and (except for some driver installing) it all worked just fine. Jerry Schwartz

Well actually reinstalling all the software is a hassle ... at least for me ... takes a lot more time than I have available.

Finally got several responses from Cyberlink Tech. Support ... links for down loading it again ... and a cleaner program. The cleaner program the guy told me to use to uninstall all Cyberlink programs ... didn't do that ... matter of fact once activated it says it's finished in ... maybe a second ... program is still there. So I'm going in the old fashion way and removing everything ... then use the program ... then will try a reinstall of the NEW files that I already have ... I don't know ... just don't think it's an effective option ... the support response was more something he cut and pasted ... not specifc to the question I actually asked him ...

Getting close to just going back to version 8 or on to Sony Vegas

I was rereading this thread....

I saw no mention of possibly installing a codec pack...ffdshow perhaps?

I downloaded your sample clip...and like the rest it played fine.

I am certainly not an expert...especially when trying to figure out why PD9 won't play certain file types....I had my headache trying to import certain avi's from several different Screen Capture programs...no luck with certain video codecs...

But you could try installing ffdshow and see if that makes a difference. Just google it and you should easily find it.

Regards,

Kevin

Worth a shot Kevin ... I'll try it after I get the new copy of the program downloaded.

Well ... the re-install and the magic "cleaner file" didn't work ... and unfortunately installing the Codec files didn't make any difference. I'm guessing it's down to ... Vista 64 bit operating system isn't working on Version 9 ... at least on this point.
Well ... I'll wait another two days for the tech's response

Ralloh;

1. I ran Vista 64 with an early Beta of Pd9 but may not have had it long enough to experience your issues before I upgraded to 7.

2. Can you please post a copy of your dxdiag file for us to see. Instructions are found at the link below (see section B)
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/preList/2405/8449.page
Then attach that yournameDXDIAG.TXT file to a post here.

3. What is the complete path to the file you are trying to load?? Have you tried moving the file to your desktop (or my documents folder)and then using PD9 to try opening it from there?

This sounds like it has been a LONG TREK for you, I hope we can find a solution.

Morning FredB ... yeah feels long

I've attached the file you asked for ... and as far as the path the MP4's are usually saved to the harddrive in a folder under "Pictures". I did move a couple to the desk top and that resulted in the same issue when trying to load it.

And thanks for the suggestions and assistance.

Intel integrated graphic card drivers. They may be current I am not sure, but were released 4/13/2009. Most likely unrelated to your problem....hard to say for sure.

Kevin;
I tell you, I wish I knew what UNRELATED meant in this product anymore. But, you are correct, I express caution to anyone troubleshooting a machine with video drivers more than 1 year old. Especially with only 128M dedicated video memory. So many enhancements have been added in that time frame related to video....who KNOWS! (so you expect $5....ok...if you give me $1 for every time the driver update worked to resolve a seemingly unrelated PD9 problem here )

Rollah;
I asked about the location of the file as Vista and Windows 7 sometimes have a problem with files located under "Program Files" being accessed directly. This does not appear to be the case here.

Just so I am clear...We are talking about the error:
Thanks ... that's very strange ... it won't allow me to import it into version 9, gives me the message:

"An error occured while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different video format. this media type is not supported."
IS THAT CORRECT??

Ok, now that Kevin has "outed" me as the video-driver-lurker..I suggest you go to the following location (select your OS):

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Chipsets&ProductLine=Laptop+Chipsets&ProductProduct=Mobile+Intel%C2%AE+4+Series+Express+Chipset+Family&ProdId=2991&LineId=1088&FamilyId=40 or click the link on my signature below.

Suggest you try the "Media Accelerator" version. This should get you to 8.15.10.2226 from 7.15.0010.1637 and update VBIOS at the same time .

Please make a restore point for your piece of mind.

Well ... the saga continues ... can't use the drivers from that site ... and when I used they're automatic detection software to try to figure it out ... got this message

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

So went to Viao/Sony's site and updated the Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family to Driver 7.15.10.1637 which is the most current one they have available

AND ... tada ... still no joy in Mudville ... same error. The program no likey MP4's
