Yes - it's all a bit bewildering, but no frame rate conflict is going to cause your otherwise HQ video to demolish itself to "dot matrix" quality.
This is the difference in Preferences:
but I'm fairly certain that is not the issue.
Could you please upload your PP video output file so we can test? or maybe your original PP project?
Here's the video I made from PP - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxp60P6x4uM2UDdTc3ZRM2ZaQ0k - what does it look like in your PDR timeline?
Cheers - Tony
Tony:
Here is a Dropbox link with the two files you asked for (the original PowerPoint 2016 file and the MP4 that I used PowerPoint to convert).
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nl8a81ytw8lz6pn/AABZmlxlk_DbeCkQiPUBx5O9a?dl=0
I even went into Premiere Pro and dropped the PP MP4 in both the Bin and Preview Window before putting it into the timeline. It worked great. Once I dropped it into the timeline, it still was pristine and crystal clear.
Went back "one more time" to PD 15 and sure enough, everything worked fine up until I actually put it into the timeline, then I got the downgraded resolution again. Could it be a codec issue?

Hi there -
Following the same procedure here, I can't even get close to replicating that.
The original images I used in the PP presentation were all >3MP (1920x1080 = ~2MP). As you did, I exported the PP slideshow as a video using File > Export > Create a Video > Presentation Quality (1920x1080). Imported into PDR, images look crisp & clean.
As a comparison, I used the Camtasia add-in to record the show - then produced that to 1920x1080 MP4 in Camtasia. File size was about double, but PQ equivalent.
There are 2 PDR snapshots attached, one from each of the tests above.
Cheers - Tony
Tony:
I am slowly narrowing the problem down as to why the resolution drops so bad for the PowerPoint MP4. First, just to make sure that it was not the actual MP4 file coming from Powerpoint 2016 that was causing the problem, I imported it into Premiere Pro CS6 and it came in fine to the bin. I then moved it to the timeline and it still looked great. No drop off in resolution and all the animations worked fine. Since I'm working on two monitors I opened the second monitor at full screen and everything still look and worked great.
I go back to PowerDirector 15 and imported the same file into Media Room and it looked great in both the MR and the Preview Window. I then opened the second monitor and everything still looked great and the animations were all there. So this is where the problem comes in.
Once i drop the file from the MR into the timeline, I get the usual "Timeline Frame Rate Conflict" error telling me that the MP4 file was created at 30fps and the PD 15 timeline is at 29.97 and they don't match and I should change it. If I click "OK" for the system to go ahead and process the file, it then becomes distorted and the resolution drops to almost "DOT MATRIX" quality. Of course if I click cancel, it simply does not import the file. So after two long days it comes down to frame rates not matching.
As the error prompt suggests, I go to Preferences/General/Time Frame Rate and it is set for 30fps which is exactly the same as the MP4 I'm trying to import. So I don't understand where the "conflict" is coming from. There is no setting in Powerpoint to change to frame rate to 29.97 and both PD 15's frame rate and the MP4 are set for 30fps. Am I missing something here on how to change PD 15 to 30fps even though it is already showing 30fps in the Preferences?

I definatly agree on the audio scrubbing feauture. I have to make a lot of precise cuts in video and even the option to narrow the play back window is not sufficient.
Make that one more vote for audio scrubbing in using the CTI. It is such helpful tool for those really tight edits.

Tony, if the PP MP4 you created in both of your tests came out looking OK then I'll need to do a little further investigating. I did find one setting in PP that seemed to help. It comes with two offerings for video "Widescreen" and "On-screen Show 16:9". I found the choosing a customize setting and using the "On-Screen Show 16:9" worked a little better but it is hit and miss. Thanks for the input. I'll keep at it.

Hi TeeMan,
Tony is right that the username and password are usually in the link you copy and paste. Are you pasting the link into Windows File Explorer? It doesn't work right if you paste it in a web browser instead.
David
David and Tony:
All it takes is a little reading on one's part to "Get It"
After sending a response to Tony, David I saw your comment back to me and the word's "Window Explorer" in your response. All of a sudden lights, bells and whistles started going off. I heard my brain saying "Dummy, Dummy, Dummy" over and over again : .
Thanks for your insight and from now own, I've trained my brain to differentiate between "Windows Explorer" and "Internet Explorer" (i.e. any browser).

G'day TeeMan1 -
I think the reason you weren't asked to login is that the access details - host, password etc - were built into the link provided by CL.
After the upload, were you able to see your file listed? or is that what you're asking about? You're unsure whether the file was uploaded successfully?
If in doubt, you could simply upload it to a shared file site, like Google Drive, OneDrive etc, then submit a response to your original support ticket quoting the link.
Cheers - Tony
Tony:
To answer your question, I am not able to upload the file period. Tech Support instructed me to do the following:
1. "Copy and paste the link" that they sent into Windows Explorer (Did That)
2. "Enter the UN and PW" they provided (Nowhere to do that) as you indicated it probably already a part of the URL string.
3. "Please copy and paste the folder" (The one they asked me to create) into the FTP location.
The problem is that the Folder is either (a) not being copied my clipboard from my desktop or (b) the FTP site simply does not allow me to paste (that option is grayed out)
I've tried both Chrome and IE just to make sure that it's not a browser problem and in both copy the folder and when I get to the FTP site the "PASTE" option is grayed out.
Speaking of which, I prefer to write and edit my forum entries in Word and then paste them into the forum window. However, like with the FTP issue, I can't seem to find a way to paste anything into this forum window. What's up with that?
Thanks for your help.

I've got a continent map that I created in MS Powerpoint in which the shading revealing specific countries track with the narrator speaking (the narrator says France and then created an outline of France appears along with the color I've chosen to represent the country). Everything on the MS PP side works perfectly. However, when I export the file from PP as "high resolution" (1080p) with a 16:9 aspect ratio and drop it into PowerDirector, the resolution is so bad I can hardly make out the map and the colors for each country on the continent. Any ideas if this resoultion can be improved in PD 15?
Thanks

Hi all:
A couple weeks ago I submitted a trouble ticket to Cyberlink Support regarding a problem I had posted about recently on Multi-Cam Designer not syncing a 3 camera shoot I am working on. CS initially got back to me and asked that I send them a video file to their FTP site.
I followed the directions that CS sent on how to upload the folder from my desktop to their FTP site. When I copied the link that they provided to access the FTP site, instead of taking me to a login and password screen the link placed me in a directory with 7 or 8 other ticket numbers. This is normally not a problem, however, after going to my desktop and copying the folder with the video file that they requested I returned to the FTP site that has the other folders and there is no option to paste my folder with the other existing folders. My thinking is that because I was never asked to officially login.
I responded to CS but they have not gotten back to me and I'm right in the middle of posting a project the we're trying to get out the door by Christmas. Does anyone have any ideas on a workaround to get this into the proper FTP folder. Given that the folder is only 24 MB I'd be willing to drop it in Dropbox or send via We Transfer if I had and email address to sent it too.
Thanks,
TeeMan1

I'm filming hockey games with 2 cameras, 1 at each end of the rink and my task is to cut from 1 camera to the other seamlessly depending on which half of the rink the puck is on. I've found the multicam designer easy to use, I can press 1 or 2 on my keyboard or click which camera I want to be the "live" camera. The problem is I do not have a seperate audio track to use, and I do not want just 1 camera as the audio source. When I'm recording in the designer and switch from camera 1 to camera 2 I want the audio from the corressponding camera to be used. The only way I can tell to accomplish this is to stop the recording, click the drop down menu to change the source audio every time I change cameras (which in a hockey game there is a lot of back and forth). This now makes the editing task go from mildly tedious to I can't buy this product because of this 1 thing.
So my question is is there a way to automatically have the source audio come from whichever camera is the live camera. Meaning while I'm recording and I click the live video to change from camera 1 to camera 2 I want the source audio to change to camera 2 the moment I click camera 2. Hopefully I've explained this well enough someone can understand what I'm talking about. I am running the free trial of PD15 and would like to purchase the program but this detail is a crucial one for me as I'm editing alot of hockey games. Thanks for the help!
Kemp:
This is one of my biggest complaints about PD 15. Not only is it a non starter when you have two or three cams with their own audio that you may want to use, you should see me throwing things when I create cartoons in MOHO and import the separate MOHO files into PD for editing. PD Multi-Cam only let's me select either cam1, 2, 3, or 4 as the audio source and not 1 and 2 together, all 4 cams or even better the holy grail "audio follows video."
While I appreciate Cyberlink and their efforts, I keep having to go back into Premiere Pro CS6 (which I still have on my computer and refuse to get rid of just for cases like this) to do all of my multicam editing.
From what I have seen, I don't think any of the consumer or prosumer editing software comes with the "audio follows video" option.
My suggestion is that if you know anyone with a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro or CC, or Avid Media Composer, you might ask them to let you do your Multi-cam editing on their system and then bring it back into PD as an AVI file.

The Designer button replaces the old Modify button but it works the same way. The UG has not been completely updated.
Thanks for the help. Thought I had drifted off into the Twlight Zone

I am running PD15 as part of Director Suite 5. My version does not have a "Modify" button where it should be. I've checked settings to see if it was turned off but it's not there. Sure I can double click and the same task that the Modify button would do is completed but it's strange that it is not there. I attached a screen capture to illustrate this. Does anyone else have this problem?

This one has me perplexed. Need some help.
I'm testing my gear in preparation for an upcoming three camera shoot and after shooting a couple of test takes and dumping three separate video clips into MultiCam Designer, Audio Analysis simply refuses to line up my clips.
Instead it lines up clip 1 on track 1 as it should be.
However, it pushes the clip 2 on track 2 to the end of track 1 but on track 2 and ditto for clip 3 on track 3 (See the attached photo showing before Audio Analysis and After Audio Analysis).
I know I can go in and manually line up the clips or do it with markers but this issue has me stumped.
At first I thought it may have been because the audio did not record on Clips 2 and 3, but after I checked audio on all 3 clips, it is there.
Any ideas!

Hi TeeMan1,
Currently PowerDirector doesn't have the audio setting that you want, but I think it is a great and interesting suggestion.
I see you already added it to the suggestions list, so I am sure RD will discuss implementing it.
Keep suggestions like that coming.
In the meantime, is there any way you can first export the audio from both clips and then produce one long audio file you can use as the reference?
David
David:
Thanks for your feedback. Your suggestion may be a temporary workaround I had not thought of. I also thought of going ahead and doing my multicamera edits for those sections of the two cameras that do overlap and then manually dropping those sections that don't directly into the timeline and using keyframes to keep things in the proper time sequence.
I also remember reading on one of the blogs that supposedly PD 13 forward offered the ability to do multi-edits from within the timeline. I don't see how that could be possible. but it was mentioned.
Thanks again,
TeeMan1

Current Wish List:
Jab73180
- ability to bulk unlink audio and perform bulk video speed adjustments.
Badtoe
- improve the clip trimming process to improve workflow. Click the clip in the media list to show it in the preview and trim there before inserting into timeline
Eugen157
- Ability to author and burn UHD BR discs PLEASE
Chiedu
- Ability to draw straight lines in Paint designer.
- draw circles & squares too.
- able to determine the length of time the item takes to get drawn.
- Also being able to have easing in/out out of Keyframes set to on by default
BarryTheCrab
- The ability to choose multiple clips to apply fixes/enhances at the same time. The current "Apply to all" is too limiting.
- Next, the ability to alter the volume level of the disc menu music. Is it re-e-e-a-a-al-l-y that difficult?
GGRussell
- more control in the Produce custom Profile dialog box.
1 - choice for constant FPS and variable FPS
2 - Choice for constant CBR and variable VPR vs Avg ABR
3 - choice for changing GOP pattern
4 - would be nice to control i frame vs IDR frames this could make seeking the H.264 file easier and more responsive in the player
5 - MP4 does support 5.1 audio so why doesn't PD15? Even my home camcorder has 5.1, but I can't output to MP4 because PD doesn't support it.

1. The ability to create permanent tags/folders in the Media Room in which to place specific assets. For instance, if I am working on a project and I've got 10 different video shots, 40 or so music audio tracks for bumper music, 50 photographs, I would like to categorize them in their own respective folder just like I would do on my computer.
2. In MultiCam Designer, another option added to the audio source choices that would allow "audio to follow the video" selection. This is extremely important when you have two or more clips that actually sync in MCD but you may have a clip on camera 1 that may have only been recorded for 5 or 10 minutes and then is recorded another 5 or 10 minutes later in the sequence. MultiCam would then show the other tracks which you can click on but because you have "hard picked" the source for audio (e.g., Camera 2", it does not change when you switch to another camera.
3. In the project timelime, the ability to add a new sequence as part of that project instead of having to create a whole new project and then import it back into the project. For instance, if I've got a project that has say 4 different sections, it would be great to be able to access one or all of the sections while working in the same project.
4. Realizing that there are very minor changes/additions between versions, an UPDATED User's Manual that is easy to locate on the Cyberlink site in PDF woudl be great. Ditto for all of CL's products. The last manual I can find anywhere is for PD 13.

I've searched the forum but cannot find a topic/answer to this questions. I'm using PowerDirector 15.
I'm editing a two camera shoot in Multi Camera Designer. I have selected the audio source as Cam 2 as it has the longer of the two tracks with audio. The video clips are on track 1 and track 2 and at some points during the recording process, both cameras were recording. At other times, only one camera was recording.
After running Multi Cam Designer's Audio Analysis, all of the clips lined up as to when the respective camera was recording. However, the situation I have is track 1 might have say 2 minutes of recorded video and then the operator may have paused the recording. Ditto that for Camera 2 at a different time. They are occasions when they do overlap/have synced up which gives me the ability to switch from cam 1 to cam 2 in a normal multi cam operation.
However, here's the problem. When cam 2 drops out, I switch to cam 1 when it becomes available. But there is now no way either automatically or manually to access the audio on cam 1 as I have selected cam 2 to be the "Audio Source". I work with Premiere Pro CS6 and its multi cam editor has a setting for "Audio Follows Video" for just the type of scenarios I have described. Does PowerDirector 15 have a setting that will allow the audio to follow the video?
I have attached a screenshot to illustrate my delima
Thanks,

Ron:
If I understood you correctly, you want to be able to go back and work on other parts of this long clip separate from long clip. I had a similar issue last week with PD 15. What I did was:
1. split my long clip(s) as there were three tracks on the timeline and then highlighted the section I wanted to copy. Let's call this Project 1.
2. After that I highlighted the section I wanted to copy to the clipboard.
3. Next I clicked "File, New Project. After saving Project 1, I pasted the clipboard item from Project 1 into the new project (Project 2)
4. Then I saved Project 2 as a new project file.
I might be off on what you were asking but this worked for me.

OK all of you great people in Cyberlink Land. I want to thank you for your help in dealing with what had become a big headache for me as I could not get Multi-Cam Designer to play back my synced files properly. I am proud to report that the problem has been solved. The problem apparently stems from either my card or possibly my CPU does not have enough juice to do what I was asking it to do. This what I learned and it fixed the problem.
It appears that when one calls up MCD one of the defaults is that the Preview Window is set to "HD Preview Resolution". This default setting was the problem. I went back and looked at a PD Multi Cam Designer tutorial about 5 times by Maliek of Power Director University that he had put out on PD12 a few years back. At one point he highlighted the different settings for the Preview Window and I thought to myself that could this be the problem. With the setting for the Preview Window at HD Preview Resolution, upon playing back the synced video, it would speed up in places and then it would slow down in places. The audio and video were clearly NOT in sync.
I dropped the Preview Window setting down to "High Preview Resolution" instead of "HD Preview Resolution" and immediately the video and audio were in sync and everything played perfectly. I'm a real happy camper now.
BTW, I had submitted a trouble ticket to CL Support and received a response from them shortly after I had found my own fix. They likewise suggested the same solution that I came up with and a couple other suggestions such as disabling tracks that where not in use, selecting non real time preview mode, closing all other applications while using Power Director, trying other clips to see if the problem persisted (which I had just started to do when I found the fix), and ensuring that PD was updated to the latest build.
I've now got a good couple of weeks worth of editing I need to get done to produce a video that will be handed out as Christmas gifts.
Cheers,
TeeMan1

Permanent Tags/Folders in the Media Center. The ability to create permanent Tags/Folders that will help to organize my media files. Putting lots of mixed media (video, audio, photo, etc) in one folder and then having to sort through them is a real pain.
Also, would love to have the ability to add sequences within a project instead of having to create a new project file for each time I want a new sequence.

Thank you very much. Will get on it right away.

Hello,
Any chance you can upload these two clips to Google Drive or somewhere so that CyberLink QA can access? It would be very helpful to them.
If you can, please do then share the link to your drive via private message. If not, please contact technical support and see if they can assist you.

I've got a real humdinger of a problem with Multi-Cam Designer and maybe someone can help me figure this out. I've to two clips out of a total of 70 or so that were shot with two different cameras. I loaded the two clips onto my Dell Latitude E6510 laptop for editing in Multi-Cam Designer. I noticed right away that after running MCD, the clips were not only out of sync, but were moving in slow motion as well with the video trailing the audio. The two clips are 2.5 GB and 3.7 GB. So I'm thinking, maybe the files were too large for my laptop (plenty of HD space and 8 GB of Ram). However, if I dropped the clips into the timeline on two separate tracks, they played perfectly.
Next, I loaded the files onto my desktop Dell Studio XPS i7 on Win 7 Pro which has 24 GB of Ram and encountered the same problem with MCD. Again, the files played fine in the timeline without the errors. I checked aspect ratios to make sure everything was set properly and it was.
Next, I loaded both files into Premiere Pro CS6 on my Dell XPS and they not only played correctly but also synced up properly. I also ran them through Plural Eyes just to make sure PP was not a fluke. PE synced everything up nicely so I just dumped those files back into PP and finished my editing project in PP.
I left PP because of Adobe's stupid perpetual twist your arm until you cry Uncle licensing strategy. I was hoping Power Director would be a great asset but as stands now, my purchase of Director Suite 5 may have been a mistake. Does anyone have any idea on why this problem may be happening and if there is a fix?
A lot of my PP buddies are laughing at me
Regards,
TW
