Found Daffyd Bevan's tutorial. Now Wave Editor makes sense! And it does work to "eliminate" sounds.
Not now - but some time soon - I will want to use this to modify my own voice, added to videos. Need an external mic, and need to know how to add that sound to my videos - but not now. I'm learning, slowly. I'm happy.

Thanks for your replies.
Steve - I mentioned that the noise I want to remove is random stuff such as car horns, etc. I haven't added my own voice to the tracks. That's something I need to learn how to do, but it will have to wait for some later time.
Muting the tracks did work! Thanks.
Just FYI - "Audio Denoise" did not work.
Carl - I think what I need is a tutorial on how to use Wave Editor. I did look for one, but did not find it. I can Open WE okay, but that's as far as I can get. When I try to import anything into it, I get the error "no items match your request". This happens whether I try to import a project, or a file, so obviously I just don't know what I'm doing there.
For the moment, I'm okay - the audio track in my clips is muted. But once I get to the point where I want to add my own voice, or add music, I'll need to know more.
Thanks again - Bill

I think there's a way to minimize or eliminate the sound (wind, car horns, voices, other noises) which is recorded incidentally by the camera as the video is shot. Can someone help me out?
Using PD 10 - OS is Win 7 -
I have placed several subtitles in the video, and have put them in the Sound track, as the subtitle tutorial indicates. I have Cyberlink Wave Editor installed but if it's the program to use, I've been unable to use it.

Thanks Cranston - I see it now, and I'll bookmark your note so I won't be able to forget this. When I looked earlier, I was looking at the menu bar which appears with "All Content". I didn't realize Xerox meant the menu bar for "Color Boards" - but of course that would be the one to use!!

Rather than go directly to an uninstall/reinstall of PD10, I did a System Restore and a second restart of the computer, and has brought back the Color Boards.
Something did corrupt PD 10, but it must have been within the Systems somewhere.
Norton 360 (anti virus, anti malware), claimed to have found a "problem", which was removed during a very prolonged series of restarts, etc. Things are okay for the moment. Surprisingly, a scan with Malwarebytes showed no malware. If Malwarebytes missed malware that Norton did pick up, that's a "first" in my experience.
Wish me luck - it would still be nice to know how to set PD 10 back to its defaults, though I apparently don't need to do that now.

I'm sure I see the icon you're referring to but there's nothing in it which refers to restoring PD to defaults.
In my copy of PD10, that icon (furthest to the right on the menu bar which contains "All Content" etc - and that icon is 7 tiny squares with a downward pointing green arrow) is labelled "Library Menu". It allows various kinds of sorting and icon sizes, but I don't see anything about restoring defaults.
Can you point me to anything else which restores defaults?

Thanks Carl - No, I haven't done an uninstall/reinstall. I knew that might be the only solution - but I was hoping there was some magical key I could press which would bring everything back, just as suddenly as it disappeared.
It's a strange situation - everything, including color boards, was working normally as I re-edited a very small slide show I'm working on, no editing at all except for the title and some transitions, no special effects. Then I decided to add another color board at the end of the slide show, and suddenly CBs were gone. As far as I could tell, everything else still worked normally, and it still does. I tried making up a new project (a tiny slide show) to see if that would allow CBs to return - tried a shutdown/restart of the computer - all the simple stuff. But I guess I'll have to do the uninstall/reinstall.
I'll post the results to this thread.

While working on a small slide show this afternoon, I suddenly found that Color Boards were no longer available. I've used CBs many times for videos (and a few times previously while working up this slide show). They've always been immediately available when I click on the Content list. But now, when I click on Color Boards, all that shows up is a blank gray screen.
"All Content" and "Backgrounds" are still available.
I've closed PD 10, reopened it - also made up avery brief New Project - same thing, All Content and Backgrounds still available, CBs just a blank gray screen.
I'm hoping this is just due to my having pressed some key which temporarily blanked out CBs.
Any thoughts?

Thanks Tony - I think that's what I've been trying, but I can't check it out right now. Unfortunately, I now have a new problem: Color Boards seem to have disappeared from PD 10. I'll post that as a new thread, hoping it's just that I've hit some key which made CBs temporarily unavailable.

When creating a slide show in PD 10, is it possible to fade the title *out* gradually (over 1-1.5 seconds) as the first still image appears - blending the title into the first image? I haven't been able to work out how to do that, either using a Color Board to contain the title, or using one of my own still images. (I can easily put the title on a Color Board or on one of my own images - that's not the problem - and I can fade the title *in* from a black Color Board. Now I want to fade the title *out* also.)
Is such a fade-out possible?
I don't want to use any of the prepared templates for the title.
I have the same objective at the end of the slide show - I've added a black Color Boad and title at the end, with a few words of notes. I'd like that to fade out (to black) also.
Thanks - Bill Hansen

Thanks Barry - that does help. I'm working through this quickly, without any special effects except for transitions for now. But I want to use MM on some of the images in a second version of the slide show. - Bill

Aha! I see part of the answer now. Apparently Magic Motion (MM) is only available when you select a single image from a slide show - makes good sense!
I have two follow-up questions though:except for the "user defined" MM, the image is cropped by about 15-20% as MM is applied. Is there a way to have MM applied to the entire image, without cropping?
Second question - if a style of MM is applied to an image, is there any way to modify the MM or to change to another style of MM, other than removing the image and re-inserting it into the time line?

OS is Win 7 - Computer is Intel i7 2.67 GHz 64 bits 390 GB free space on the HD NVIDIA GeForce 250 graphics
A few months ago, I have uploaded and installed PD 10 and Content Packs 1 and 2. I've made a few short videos successfully. Now I'd like to make my first slide show. I don't want to use the Templates, but only want to present the still images, with some transitions. It would be very nice to use Magic Motion with a few of my images.
When I first used PD 10, I was able to access the Magic Motion button. Now that button does not appear, and a couple of other buttons are also missing.
Checking past posts on this general topic, I think this means I must uninstall PD 10 and the Content Packs, and reinstall them - but I have to anticipate that (1) I may have trouble with that uninstall/reinstall, and (2) it may not solve the problem anyway. Is this correct?
Rather than lose PD 10 altogether, I'd prefer to do slide shows without Magic Motion - but it would be a very nice feature to have.
Any thoughts on the above?

I understand that Cranston. I was going by that older tutorial at first, not realizing that things have changed. Then when I read Carl's original reply to me, I read it too quickly and didn't absorb the "Paste" move. My error, of course. - Bill

Thanks Carl - Just after I wrote my last note, I realized that the 2nd clip can be inserted either before or after the 1st one. I'm trying to put together a series of very short clips (20-30 sec each) to show the growth and development of a puppy. - Bill

Okay - I'v'e got it now. The "Paste" notation wasn't included in the original tutorial (the one which was a workaround for an earlier version of PD). Both Carl's and Cranston's versions work perfectly. I messed up Cranston's version the first time I tried it (how can you mess up something so simple??? But it did) but it worked like a charm now. I'll use them both, since the Copy-Paste method puts the new project at the end of the first project, and the Insert method inserts the new project before the first project.
Thanks to both of you!!

Carl and Cranston - The procedure Carl outlined works part way, but I'm still leaving something out or doing something incorrectly. By eliminating the minimization of PD, and ALSO choosing to save changes in the first project, the MTS files from the second project appear in the Library. Now I click to choose to combine the two projects. The MTS files from the second project appear in the Library, but none of the second project's edited files appear in the time line, and the second project's MTS files are all intermingled with those of the first project.
For example, in the project I'm trying to merge at the moment, in the Library there are MTS 00001(1), 00004(1), 00005(1) all from project #1. Next there's 00005 from project #2, 00006(1) from project #1, 00006 from project #2, 00007(1) from project #1 - and so on through all the files in both projects. Of course I could manually sort out the MTS files from project #2, bring them down to the time line one at a time in some order, re-edit each one (since the edited versions aren't in the time line) - but there must be an easier way.
I'm still missing something. What could it be?

Trying to merge two projects using the tutorial here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGq_tL5F6Ug but I'm doing something wrong. When I click at upper right to minimize the first project, the whole screen containing PD 10 minimizes, of course. I can still open a second project by going to its pds file on the HD and clicking it. It opens in PD but the first project no longer appears. I get the message asking if I want to merge the two. I click yes. the second project opens and appears in the time line, but the first project has disappeared. Is there some additional step which I haven't seen?
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Tony - I see that I can use some of those new features, and that you haven't had trouble with the update. Next time I open PD (probably later today, or tomorrow) I'll install it.

Thanks Jim - That helps. If I don't see anything more for a day or so, I'll download it and install it.

For the past couple of days I've been getting a pop-up asking me to update to a new version of PD10. My copy of PD10 is working just fine, and I hate to disturb something which is working well. I've been reluctant to install the update, since updates of some programs have caused serious problems. I haven't seen anything on the PD10 forum about the new update. Has anyone installed it? Have there been any problems with it?
