Ooooohhhh, Cheeky, Mike!!! Ha-ha! Oops, Now I know why you said that! Them nasty keyboard gremlins got me again... Ouch! That should've been 2016, not 2006!
This post has a starting date that goes way back to 24th February, 2011 but kleppamaki was the first to post a comment on it this year, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who's "living in the past!"

Hi,
Looking back over the posts on this "Fade In/Out" problem, the 5th anniversary of the original post is this Wednesday, it's clear to me that Cyberlink would've been aware of it since PD10, but have apparently done nothing at all to remedy it, So here we are, 22nd February, 2006(Australian east coast time) and four versions further along and the same problem keeps resurfacing? Tsk, tsk! Shame, Cyberlink, shame! You should've nipped this one in the bud back in 2011!

Hi, Barry & Carl!
Thanks for the info. The WMV is a conversion from the MPEG2(dragged the MPEG2 original onto the timeline then "produced" as a WMV file). And as I said, the only reason or the conversion was so I could upload it without too much grief and it would be available for download to anyone who wants it. Now that I know it's safe to dump the WMV version, I'll hang on to the original MPEG2 version and send the WMV to the recycle bin. As you know, I don't save PDS files(I know you've been critical in the past about my method), I keep the raw video content in a folder, be it MPEG2 or MP4, or even AVCHD, edit it in one session, then produce my "final" version as an MPEG2 file rendered in DVD SP grade so that I can put it on disc along with other material I've produced. I've no need of the PDS files, I only ever require to have the original raw video content, straight off my camera's SD cards.
Cheers!

Hi, Quigley!
Yeah, I've struck a few of those tapes(commercial movie features with the copy-protect imbedded, probably into the linear audio track), as soon as you click "record" you get the "Bonk" noise and the warning, "Copy-Protected - Recording is prohibited!" I've copped that on some home-made tapes too, not because of imbedded protection, but because age has deteriorated the tape a bit. That "Model Train" video will be safe to use as the people who produced it would not have had access to that technology that imbeds such protection. As you're waiting on an order for a new capture device, I'll wish you good luk that the new device will give you what you're looking for. As for feedback(tech. support) from Avermedia and/or Cyberlink.... well, you may get it, and then again you may not. Avermedia has already failed you in that regard. I think you'll do well with the Diamond Video capture card.
Cheers!
Neil.
P.S., As I said previously, these devices are generally "plug & play" so your new device should be up & ready for use almost immediately on installation. That's been my experience.

Hi, Carl!
I only created the WMV version for upload purposes as it had a smaller file size in order to facilitate easier upload. My question, perhaps I need to rephrase it, is: Now that I've uploaded the WMV version, do I need to retain it here on my computer so that anyone who downloads it won't get hit with a "file does not exist" warning? Or is it safe to delete the WMV version?
Cheers!

Er... aaaah.... yeah! I really don't know how to answer that one, Maliek! Actually, it's to make people look like they haven't been raiding that fridge! Ha-ha!

Hi, All!
At time of writing, the number of downloads of my little first-play clip has been increased to 7. I have retained the original MPEG2 version on my computer hard-drive but do I also need to retain the WMV version? If it's uploaded to wherever it goes to, is it safe to remove the WMV version from my computer as I really only want to retain the original MPEG2 clip?
Cheers!

I recall my recent install of my highly rated Diamond vc500 capture device. See this link: http://vhs-to-dvd-converters-review.toptenreviews.com/ .Audio was terrible until....I power down the pc for the night. Powered the pc the next day and tried all other video capture software. Something must have snapped. All the other software worked properly after using PD14. Don't give up yet.
Hi!
At the moment I'm using a K-World capture device, which is getting a fairly good workout since I've been doing some VHS(or other formats) to DVD conversions for friends. Prior to this I was using a Pinnacle "Dazzle" capture device. Quigley2009 , I wonder if, perhaps there might be a technical problem within your capture device which might be preventing the video signal getting through. Right now that's about the only possibility I can come up with to explain why you're not seeing the video image. These devices are generally "plug-and-play" and will work with any video capture and edit software. If they come with a software package, it's almost invariably a video editing software programme, like Power Director(most recent version) if you buy them from a retail shop.
Cheers!

Hello all,
I am having an issue getting video capture to function. I am trying to copy VHS tapes to my PC. Tape plays in my VCR and outputs to TV correct via RCA (composite) cables as well as S-Video with red/white RCA for sound. My PC capture device is the Avermedia DVD EZ Maker 7 USB (C039p). The Avermedia device installed correctly in my PC and shows up as recognized in Power Director. However, when I select capture in PD and then start the VCR tape only the sound comes across, no video. Just a blank blue screen in upper left of PD where the preview should be. I swapped between S vid and RCA yellow to test cables, no change. I swapped VCR players, no change. I swapped USB ports on my PC, no change. I obtained another Avermedia device, installed it, no change.
I requested technical support from Avermedia, waiting on the reply. Thought I would post here and see if anyone had an idea. I am a Cyberlink platinum member with one month of free phone support (three weeks left on it), but when I contact phone support they tell me the TSID number they provided is invalid, say thank you, and hang up.
Any ideas??
Quigley
Hello, Quigley2009!
In the Capture section, you need to go to "settings"(lower right-hand corner of screen). Click on Settings and a window appears where you can set your capture source. If you're using the run-of-the-mill composite video input of your capture device, on "Capture Source", select Video Composite.
I remember now(via yours and other posts) that the first-such device I had was an Avermedia brand. Good for video, utterly woeful for the audio side..... UGH!. Subsequent capture cards did the job much better so you'll perhaps pardon me for not being a big fan of Avermedia product. But anyway, the detail I gave should help resolve your problem.
Cheers!

Neil,
Took me a while to figure out what a "pippet" was. We here in the U.S. refer to it as an "eyedropper". Thanks for the guide...it works well.
Hi, Dan!
Sorry 'bout that! Being an Aussie, I tend to use Australian terminology a lot. Yes, "pippet" is an alternative name for "eyedropper".(Angela123, sorry if I've confused you on this as well). If I make references to "mobile phones", just convert that to your own term, "cell-phone". There's so much variation in language between England, Australia, Canada, and even New Zealand may have their own terms for some things.
Cheers!

When you say Title Room in your last post, you must mean Title Designer
Hi, Jirka!
Title Room, Title Designer, pretty-much same thing, actually! The two are linked together. You go into the title Room to grab a template for the title effect you want to use, you drag it onto the title track, click on it, and this opens up the Title Designer for you to type in the title, set the font size, style and colour, and set the effects of how the title will appear and disappear from your clip. You were using keyframe settings to create the effect in your video. The 3D title designer doesn't specifically rely on keyframes as such(as far as I can see, in any case). An effect I'd like to create involves a constantly revolving circle(like the surface of a DVD or a 45rpm record, for instance) and while it's revolving, rotate it on a Y-axis(vertical) so it appears like you're looking across the surface of it as it spins. That's the theory anyway. At the moment there's no way to do it.
Cheers!

Hi Neil,
Have you checked out that video of mine? The word video is a link to it. Is that what you mean? I think I just used resizing and keyframes to achieve that.
Jirka
Hi, Jirka, I just viewed a little over 5 minutes of it, I noted you used the effect you talked of in the opening title sequence, You created this in PD12 or PD13, probably shows how PD14 has gone "backwards" somewhat in a few respects. To get an idea of what A_J_123 and I want to be able to do with video clips, open up(if you have a few moments to experiment) the 3D title in Title Room, click on it(no need to type in any titles) and scroll down to the 3D rotation settings. X-rotation turns the title to face up or down, spinning it on an axis horizontally, Y-rotation turns the title to face left or right, giving a side-on view, spinning it on an axis vertically, Z-rotation is just your run-of-the-mill clockwise-or-anticlockwise rotation. Its what can be done with X, Y and Z rotation that A-A-123 and I would like to be able to do with video in our clips.
Cheers!

Also, the paint bruch pipet is too large to target a smaller area, such as shirt tie as an example.
Hi, Angela!
Your remarks, "the paint bruch pipet is too large to target a smaller area" and "some of the items that got colored are 'shaking'", I iguess I can only put that down to the limitations of the system. Ynotfish(Tony) has added a suggestion that you might try as an alternative to my idea, using the Effects Room, the NewBlue FX Colour Swap, but even that has its deficiencies, as Tony pinted out under the image he provided.
Cheers!

Hi there,
Frankly, I am not sure what you guys mean exactly. Could it be similar to what I used at the beginning (from about 0:05 to about 0:30) of one of my videos? I did it in PowerDirector, probably 12 or 13. I just don't quickly remember how I did it.
Regards…
Jirka
Hi, Jirka!
What we're talking about here is akin to what you can do with the 3D title in the title room, it can turn on different axises, spin it clockwise or anti-clocwise, turn it so it slopes up or down, turn it so it faces left or right(perspective view, like standing at one end of a fence or wall, etc., and looking along it) or a combination of any of them, well, that's what A_J_123 and I would like to be able to do with video clips inserted onto a PiP track. I could think of a few instances where I'd like to use such an effect. Sadly it's only available for the 3D title.
Cheers!

Thanks, how to do the chroma step and color board though?
I have never done that or accessed it, so any logicstical steps would be appreciated.
Okay, Angela! A step-by-step guide ay? Here we go....
1) From the Media Content, select colour boards and pick the colour you want to replace the red in that ugly old rug. Lay that colour board onto the Video 1 track(you can adjust position and length after you've placed the video with the rug on Video Track 2(PiP track).
2) Switching back to media content, you now have the clip you want to make your colour change in. Drop that onto Video Track 2.
3) here you need to see where that rug first appears and disappears and move the colour board to a point just before the rug appears, then, click on the board to highlight it and set the duration.
4) Now highlight your video and you'll see a function called "Modify" Click on it and the first thing you'll see is the chroma-key settings, click where it says Chroma-Key to "tick the box" and Chroma-Key is ready for use. Next to a chequerboarded strip is a "pippet" click there then on the right of your screen, move the scrubber to the point anywhere during where the rug appears and click on it with the pippet, the colour of the rug will disappear and the colour of the board will replace it.
I use Chroma-Key quite a lot in my videos, after a bit of practice it becomes as easy as riding a bike!
Cheers!

I filmed a show in which we used an ugly red rug that doesn't match the rest of the set.
Can I choose in PD 14 "red" and change all the carpet to another color?
If yes, how? Thanks!
Hi, Angela!
Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking you could use a colour board on the Video 1 track, put your video with that "ugly red rug" on the Video 2 track and chroma-key out the red, the colour from the colour board will appear in place of the red, it's then a matter of choice what colour you want.
Cheers!

Hi, jcardana!
There's another option you can also try, the "No Menu" option, You can still set chapters while editing and the "skip" buttons on your DVD remote will bump the video along to each chapter, but on loading, the disc will commence to play immediately and will "loop" play until such time as you press the Stop button. Just thought I'd mention it.
Cheers!

Hi, Dan & Carl!
The simple answer there is: I don't have a YouTube channel, and after all the talk on this forum(in other threads) of late, this way, I avoid all the grief of trying to prove copyright was cleared for the music contained therein. Plus, it's easier to download from here than it might be from YouTube. As to the music, I derived it from a Power Director 8 menu page file. I found the music by chance while delving into the PD8 component files, and I copy-pastedthem into a folder that I labeled "Audio Grabs". With all that talk about copyright and the grief that YouTube has apparently given so many of its contributors, I wanted no part of that, so I uploaded to this forum thread so I could make it available to anyone who liked it and wanted to use it themselves.
Cheers!
Neil.
On finishing writing this post, I noted my first-play has had 6 downloads! To the 6 who downloaded, enjoy! And thank you for taking the time to download.

Hi, Tomy!
The top one in those images looked like you used one of the two Threshold transitions. When I get some time up my sleeve, I'll do a bit of experimentation on the transitions(other than adorage and Vitascene) and provide a list of the useful transitions that won't affect the background(main) image.
Cheers!

Hello!
Experimentation with grades of WMV files, has led me almost to abandon the project outright. I tried the first setting(300kb/s) produced a woeful result that I won't inflict on anyone(file size 1.4mb but unusable). Second attempt resulted in a file too large to upload(80-odd megabythes - ouch!). A third attempt gave me good quality(2mb/s) and a file size of 9.12megabytes(as stored on my computer), so I'll upload that attempt and suggest to downloaders that you convert to MPEG2 before use. The background music is from a PD8 menu page, the graphics include the scan of the playing surface of a DVD rotating counter-clockwise at 1440 degrees(360 dexgees X 4) with the title rotating clockwise at the same rate. Backdrop is a purple colour board and, from Particle Room, #1.Star(with background removed so colour board can be seen). The item is available below for download. I note the size is slightly larger on the upload, that's just part of the process, I guess.
Cheers!
Neil
