I'd like to create a file-based video that allows a viewer to select the video segments to watch via a menu-structure. It appears PD only allows you to create something like this for a physically burned disc. Is that true? Why is that? Is there any way to create something like this for a file-based video? Appreciate any help.
Can anyone explain what Stabilizer is doing? I've rendered a couple test videos (sea kayaking videos with quite a bit of inherent movement in the source) with & without it but I'm really not seeing much difference. What effect does moving the slider on the Stabilizer page have? When would you move it and for what purpose? What setting makes the most sense? What should "Fix rotational camera shake" do? Other than render time, are there any downsides to using Stabilizer? Appreciate any help.
OK, thanks. I changed my explorer preferences to show hidden files/folders and now I see everything. And yes, I now see that the saved file is NEW for each save. That's actually pretty good. From a project management perspective would it make sense to change the AUTOSAVE folder path to the temporary work folder and let PD AUTOSAVE these every x minutes directly to the temporary work folder? If so, what would be a reasonable time limit to give to this?
No, I don't have that folder. I'm not even showing an APPDATA sub-folder under C:/Users/"My Name". I do show a ROAMING sub-folder directly[b] off C:/Users/"My Name" but there's nothing in there. Is there a log file that PD creates that might show any troubles it's having creating folders or files? Might this be a permission issue?
I don't have that folder created for AUTOSAVE. I confirmed that is the default folder PD is set to use for Auto Save via preferences and Auto Save is checked (and should be enabled) but I don't physically have the folder. I'm running Win7 PRO. Why should that be set but the containing folder & auto-save files not be there?

In terms of NOT USING SAVE (as described in the Toots Project Management video), shouldn't the AUTOSAVE "feature" be turned OFF? With this set, PD is just overwriting the current project file every x minutes. Maybe a better idea would be for PD to provide a AUTO-NUMBER SAVES checkbox here so you could tell PD to auto-save to a new file each time with the save number automatically incremented.

If this is going to be used, and you're trying to keep the Toots Project Management recommendations, would it make sense to change the AUTOSAVE folder location to the temporary project folder you create?
Sorry, my mistake. Yes, you can paste text from an external application INTO Title Designer. But you can't get text out of Title Designer nor copy/paste text & formatting between Title Designer windows. PD just has very odd support for standard windows cut/copy/paste operations. It shouldn't be that way.
I've been working through a video project for the past couple days and PD crashed for some reason. Upon re-opening my project, it now provides static for ALL the sound elements. Is there any way to get the sound back? Is this a known issue of some kind? It will really stink if I have to go back and re-create the days of work I've spent on this!!!
Title Designer should NOT automatically close when ESC (or any key sequence) is hit, especially when text entry or formatting changes have been made. From a programming perspective, the standard mechanism for addressing this is to pop-up a confirmation dialog asking if you want to SAVE before exiting. All of your text entry work should not automatically disappear because you mistakenly hit a pre-defined key sequence.

SAVE AS does keep Title Designer open BUT it is saving a text template not the actual text slide that is being generated. So it's use here really doesn't apply.
Thanks for the clarification but that does not make sense. I'd certainly say this should be considered a BUG. Why should cut/copy/paste NOT work within Title Designer windows? I've rarely seen such a problem in any application for many years, standard windows cut/copy/paste is too easy to implement and is not typically screwed up.

The process you outline allows you to copy a complete text title (and I've used that before when needed). But what needs to be done is to gather sections of existing text (formatted) and re-build a new title from that gathered text (without have to re-type & re-format everything!). It's not just the text, all of the associated formatting are also things that should be able to be moved between Title Designer windows. Having to re-type & re-format everything is just wasting time and that can be alot of time!

This problem actually goes deeper. I can't even use cut/copy/paste to BRING IN external text into Title Designer. I typically script-out text segments for my videos BEFORE physically entering them into my video application. So I have external text files with a good part of my text (i.e. titles, sub-titles, descriptive text, etc.) already put together. I want to be able to copy that text from my external source and PASTE IT into PD. It's not letting me do this. So now, I have to re-type everything, yet another huge waste of time. And if I edit text within PD and want to COPY IT OUT of Title Designer and paste into another windows application, I can't do that either. Again, standard windows cut/copy/paste shouldn't be something PD (or any professional application) has trouble with.

I guess people can just accept this as "that's the way it is" but think about it for a second and there's no way it should be this way. Can anyone point out another windows application that has this type of problem with cut/copy/paste operations? This is just causing users to waste valuable time and that SHOULD NOT be a design goal of any application, especially a video editor.
Just to protect your editing session, SAVE really shouldn't close Title Designer. I think it would be better to allow SAVE to just save your current session and leave Title Designer open so you can continue editing work. Having to close the window to just save your session (and then have to re-open) is just wasting time.
If the ESC key is hit accidentally, Title Designer just shuts down without SAVING and you lose your editing session.
How do I do that?
I've been using CTRL-C / CTRL-V and that is what is NOT working. I can cut/copy WITHIN a single Title Designer window but PD doesn't appear to save the clipboard contents if I close one Title Designer window and open another to paste into. In this case, CTRL-V pastes nothing.
Why does hitting ESC close Title Designer WITHOUT saving your editing session? Has anyone seen this before? Is it a repeatable bug? NEEDS TO BE FIXED ... very frustrating!!!
Is there a way to set a background color (with opacity) for text in Title Designer? I need a slightly different colored background for my title text to allow it to be read more easily. I can't seem to find any options for adjusting text background color & opacity. Any way to do this from within Title Designer? Really don't want to have to go and setup the text the way I need it in yet another application. Title Designer should handle this.
I'm not able to do a cut/paste between Title Designer windows and I'm not sure why. Running Win7 PRO. Can anyone confirm that cut/paste is NOT working between Title Designer windows? If so, that's definitely a bug, so hopefully it can be fixed.
Try GIMP2 (GNU Image Manipulation Program) available from http://www.gimp.org/. GIMP2 is a very powerful FREE open-source graphics program. It can do just about anything but it will take a little time to learn it. There's a pretty strong forum community for GIMP2, so if you have any issues just find the forums and post your questions.
Can I create a set of Title Templates that have individual text lines setup at what I would consider proper spacing? That way I could setup a 2-line, 3-line, 4-line, etc. template with pre-determined line spacing for the fonts I'd likely use the most. That would at least keep me from having to manually position text lines on-the-fly. Has anyone already setup a set of templates like this?
Thanks for the answers but what was the download link? It didn't say anything.

Yeah, I could see work-arounds for these issues too but from a text perspective UNDERLINE and LINE-SPACING are pretty basic features of just about any application dealing with text. Having to do work-arounds to get the necessary results really becomes cumbersome. Regarding spacing, if I have to create x lines of text and manually position the lines that will get old really fast and just wastes time on a task that should be handled automatically. Seems pretty odd that in all the revs of the application they haven't dealt with these basic things.

Since I'm evaluating PD now, this certainly goes in the negative column at this point.

So I don't have to re-discover known issues, does anyone maintain a list of these type of "problems" and some recommended work-arounds? Do you have any other issues like this that you can share? Appreciate your help.
1) Why does Title Designer not provide an UNDERLINE option in Font Type Settings? You can select BOLD & ITALIC but not UNDERLINE.

2) You get options for increasing Line Spacing but no way to decrease it. For most of the fonts it appears the minimum line spacing is too large. Is there anyway to make line spacing smaller?
Thanks. OK, but if you un-check items and then use SAVE AS to create a new template, shouldn't the unchecked items NOT be SAVED? In that case, I'm creating a NEW TEMPLATE.

Not sure I understand the purpose of the check-marks in the first place if whatever I do is lost when I SAVE. When you say it just hides it while you work on other sections, sections of what? Since the Title Designer is active, don't I have to complete whatever I'm doing in the designer before SAVING and switching to another section to work on? Based on how it's working, why would I use the check-marks?

In my trial install, there is only 1 Default 3D template and it's in the 3D-Like folder. I just created my own default 2D template and placed into the General folder (I guess anything you create custom also gets placed into the Custom folder too). Just seems like something as basic as that should already be present. Just want to be sure my trial install is OK. Everything appears to be working OK at this point, but I haven't dug too deep yet.
