Thanks. OK, but if you un-check items and then use SAVE AS to create a new template, shouldn't the unchecked items NOT be SAVED? In that case, I'm creating a NEW TEMPLATE.

Not sure I understand the purpose of the check-marks in the first place if whatever I do is lost when I SAVE. When you say it just hides it while you work on other sections, sections of what? Since the Title Designer is active, don't I have to complete whatever I'm doing in the designer before SAVING and switching to another section to work on? Based on how it's working, why would I use the check-marks?

In my trial install, there is only 1 Default 3D template and it's in the 3D-Like folder. I just created my own default 2D template and placed into the General folder (I guess anything you create custom also gets placed into the Custom folder too). Just seems like something as basic as that should already be present. Just want to be sure my trial install is OK. Everything appears to be working OK at this point, but I haven't dug too deep yet.
Why is there a difference set of templates in the trial? Shouldn't there be a basic 2D title template?
Is SAVING not supposed to save any changes that were made. That seems odd.
I can UNCHECK the animation component and the graphic element is removed but if I SAVE it the animation component gets added back. I can't seem to SAVE IT with the animation element not enabled. Even if I use SAVE AS to save it as new template, the new template keeps the animation element. Is there a way to physically delete the animation element?
I'm new to PD and I know PD can be used in a ton of different ways, but how do people generally approach a new video project? Obviously, step 1 is to have some video. But how do you decide on a theme for a project and choose transitions, effects, particle effects, titles & sub-titles, PIP usage, sound, etc. to match that theme? And integrate everything together properly to provide good video projects? I realize that all of this will become more clear as I gain experience with PD but at this point it really seems quite daunting. Is anyone willing to share their thoughts on how best to approach this?
I'm just learning PD, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I've installed the trail version of PD11 (11.0.0.3026). The options available in the Title Room seem lacking. I'm showing only 4 templates in the PowerDirector v11 folder (LowerThird02_01 .. LowerThird02_04) and the same 4 in the General folder and only 1 template in the 3D-Like folder (Default3D). All other folders are showing 0 templates. Is this correct? Where do I get other title templates?

The issue is I don't seem to have just a generic 2D template available so I can have just a general text title. The LowerThird templates have some graphic items that I can't seem to delete in Title Designer. Appreciate any help ...
OK, I rendered it to an H.264 AVC at 1920x1080/60p and it actually looks pretty good with the 30fps .avi & some Hero3 FHD footage at 60fps. So, it appears the preview is really not showing the actual results. Is there some way to enhance the preview? I have a fairly powerful machine (Lenovo W530, 16G RAM, K2000M GPU). Would like to preview at the same quality level as I'll have after rendering.
I hope that's true, but it's not what I'm seeing. I have an .avi video that I captured at 30fps using HyperCam2 at FHD (1920x1080). If I view the .avi outside of PD, it looks OK (but it's playing a little faster than the original but I can live with that or hopefully slow it down a bit from within PD) . If I attempt to preview it from PD (as an external clip or as part of my project) its resolution is really degraded. Why is this?

I'll try to render it and see what the result looks like.
I shoot in several different frame rates (primarily 60fps & 30fps) and want to use clips with different frame rates in the same project. PD is saying to keep clips at the same frame rate or degradation could result. This is not good. What types of degradation will mixing frame rates cause? Is there any way around these problems?
OK, thanks. My machine is a Lenovo W530 with Nvidia Quadro K2000M & Intel HD4000. Truthfully, I'm not sure which graphic system is being used. I've enabled the use of OpenCL in my preferences but I'm not sure if that would definitely enable the K2000M. Any ideas? Would there be much functional difference using K2000M vs. HD4000? I believe I have the latest drivers. Do you know what specific Nvidia drivers are needed to keep this from happening?
Yep, I was previewing the raw clip. How is the preview quality determined when viewing raw clips? So, since this is H.264 raw HD clip (from Hero3), is the viewing resolution I see in the preview window at it's best? Also, when I place the clip on the timeline and set the preview quality to Full HD, the quality is quite a bit worse then what I see when previewing the raw clip? Why is that?

On a slightly different note, what do the preview quality settings actually do? What is the resolution degradation used for the different quality settings?

Is there any way to adjust the playback speed in preview (other than fast-forward)? Is the only way to see different playback speeds to put the clip on the timeline and then adjust the clips playback speed individually and view the clip from the timeline?
I'm new to PD, so sorry if I'm asking another stupid question. I've noticed that preview quality appears to be locked at HIGH in the Preview Window, it won't let me select any other quality settings (higher or lower). I'm running on a fairly powerful machine (Lenovo W530, Win7 PRO, i7-3740QM, 16G RAM, FHD (1980x1080), 1TB 7200rpm HDD, Quadro K2000M GPU) and figured I'd be able to get higher definition. I'm still running the trial version at this point, is this a setting that is locked out in the trail version? Appreciate any help.
Fixed it but don't know why or how. Shut PD down and restarted and the VIDEO PREVIEW is back. Is this a bug or feature? Is there a way to manually restore it if it goes away again?
I'm not showing any icons to the left of the PowerDirector. It's blank to the left of the blue arrow.
Stupid question I know, but somehow I've managed to hide the Video Preview window and I can't find a way to get it back. I've searched the menus, hot-keys, & preferences but can't find anything related to viewing the preview window. I'm obviously missing something, can anyone please help. Thanks.
Well, the 24G SSD is a throw-in and I really don't want to purchase a larger SSD to start. But, if I did, how large of a performance benefit would a 256G SSD provide for PowerDirector? I'm assuming the idea would be to install the OS and PowerDirector on the SSD, correct? What SSD speeds would you recommend?
Sorry, a couple other answers to Steve's questions. I'm not currently doing any video work for profit but I may in the future. I'm working with lots of different formats and footage times including some 4K (primarily from GoPro Black). I'm also an EE & software developer, so I use my machine pretty heavily for the things I do & YES, saving a few seconds/minutes on whatever I do will provide benefit for me. I really want this new machine to be fairly capable since I don't want to have to purchase another for at least 2-4 years. I travel a lot and certainly need a laptop (weight is not an issue, my current laptop is a 6lb beast too and carrying it around lets me limit my gym visits!! ). Appreciate the help.
One other thing, has PowerDirector been pretty stable running under Win8? Has anyone seen any problems?
Thanks for the comments. I may get the additional TravelStar 7200rpm 1TB drive (they're just $75!) just to give me more general storage space (if not using dual video cards (which I think I won't), the Y510p can have 2 drives on-board). I'll probably swap out the 7200rpm drive as my C: and move the 5400rpm drive to the storage bay. That should provide the best mechanical drive speed I can get until I can afford a larger SSD. Will increasing memory to 16G add much benefit for PowerDirector? Really appreciate the help.
I am about to purchase PowerDirector 11 Ultra and my trial use has shown that I need to upgrade my laptop as well. Since my plan is to use this new laptop primarily for video editing, I'd like to get a machine that will work well with PowerDirector. I'm looking at a Lenovo Y510p multimedia laptop with the following components:

Intel i7-4700 quad-core processor,
Windows 8,
8G of memory,
NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB (1 card or 2?),
24G SATA SSD (for Win8),
full HD graphics (1920x1080),
1TB drive (5400 rpm)

I'm a bit concerned about the 5400rpm drive, would a 7200rpm drive provide much better performance? I could install a TravelStar 1TB 7200rpm drive instead if necessary. The other issue is whether PowerDirector can make use of dual GT750M graphic cards (which is supported by the Y510p). Could you comment on the benefits (if any) of using dual graphic cards? If this isn't supported by PowerDirector at the moment, are there plans to support dual-cards later? How much benefit would maxing out the system memory to 16G provide?

All-in-all, do you feel the Y510p will provide a capable hardware platform for video work with PowerDirector? Are there any other sub $1000 machines that have proven to work well with PowerDirector? I appreciate any help.

Thanks.
