Thanks to both of you . . yes, that helps. In fact, I ordered it today and hopefully that will be the answer to my capture problems.

I will follow-up when I test it.

Does anyone know the version of Power Producer that it comes with? Would I be able to upgrade to a newer version or is that version one of those "retail products" that won't let you upgrade?

Cindy
James,

One more thing . . . I see this Kworld TV Box doesn't have RCA inputs.

My Hi8 camera does have Svideo, but my VHS VCR only has RCA inputs/outputs. Is this going to be a problem? Should I look more at the Kworld DVD maker?

Cindy
Thanks James,

That sounds like exactly what I need. I got on CompUSA's web site and they can ship it today. I guess it plugs into a USB port? The info on the CompUSA site was not very helpful.

I did also see they had another KWorld device device called "DVD maker USB Video Capture Device". Would that work just as well? What are the differences?

I'm also encouraged that it comes with PD Power Producer (even if it's an old version). At least I may not have driver conflicts. I'm done with Pinnacle!

Thanks,
Cindy
Hi James,

Thanks for the thoughts . . . I've installed and reinstalled this Movie Box thing. At one point during one of the installs, Movie Maker recognized it and now the program just hangs up so I guess during one of my reinstalls, it decided not to recognize it. And PD doesn't even recognize it at all. Soooo, then I go on Pinnacle's web site and it says in order to use the USB Movie Box, Studio (their editing software) must be installed. I guess it's some kind of proprietary thing.

So now I'm back to square one. I think I'm going to trash this Movie Box thing and just try to get something generic - either a TV tuner card or some other VHS to DVD converter. I saw at a local store that Roxio has a product (VHS to DVD) converter. Anyone tried it and/or does anyone know if it has a conflict with PD drivers? OR does anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks,
Cindy
I know this topic comes up every week or so, but I'm hoping someone can pinpoint my problem.

Just got a new computer (Windows XP professional, quad-core, Nvidia Geforce 9800GT graphics card, etc. etc). My older computer has Windows Media Center and is just, well, older . . .

However, I can't capture analog video into my new computer. My digital video via a firewire imports just fine, but I can't import VHS or High8 tapes using Pinnacle's USB movie box as my digtial converter. I've downloaded the latest drivers from their site.

Using my old computer, I don't have a problem capturing these same files. When capturing with my old computer, the TV box is highlighted (new computer it is not highlighted) and that seems to be the only difference.

I contacted my computer hardware guy and he mentioned "codecs". I've heard them mentioned on this forum before, but have not paid very much attention to it since until this point, I've had no problems capturing video.

Is there something additional I need to download or add to this computer so that I can capture analog video? I tried capturing through windows movie maker, but I couldn't get any sound.

Help!
Cindy
Sooooo . . . . what's the final verdict on the latest patch and the magic motion?

James, you mentioned that the photos are still a little wavy. I noticed when I first saw the jerkiness in build 2726 that it looked OK on the computer screen, but when I played it on a big TV the jerkiness really showed up. Does the waviness show up more when you play the final product on a big TV? It needs to work as well as build 2227c before I update.

I see the latest build on the website is still 2726 (rel 4/8/09). Isn't that still the one we have all had problems with?

I just don't want to update (again!) to this build if I'm going to still see the magic motion problems and have to reinstall 2227c again. This version seems to be working (except for the burning problem I'm now having).

Thanks,
Cindy
I think there was an earlier post on this (maybe I posted it). Anyway, I was getting that message, too, and it was suggested that I save it to a DVD folder and burn it that way.

Well, that didn't work for me either. I'm still receiving that message on my brand new computer and I know I have plenty of memory.

I did find that if I burned it to a DVD+RW, it worked fine, but failed every time I tried to burn it to a DVD-R. So what I've been doing is burning to a DVD+RW, then using a DVD copying software to burn it to a DVD-R. It is a pain, but has worked for me. Go figure!

Cindy
Hi Gareth,

I haven't used the menu/chapters very much, but I think I can help you with your first question.

- Put all the photos that you want to use in the timeline and click slideshow (not the hat that does the magic option).

- Select the style you want to use.

- Add music

- Click on the slideshow settings and select "fit music to photos". Your photos will only be used once and the music will fade out if the song isn't finished. Works real well.

I would also suggest that once you create this part of the slide show, produce it as an .avi or .mpeg2 file and save it. Then create another new project and import the file you created into the new project.

Hope that helps,
Cindy
I just got a new computer a week ago and specifically asked my installer to update the newest drivers from NVidia (which he did). I've emailed tech support before and that's the first thing they always say.

James, I'm with you, I don't thing that is going to make a difference - didn't with my project.

Still waiting . . . .

Cindy
PS - Dafydd, there aren't ALL guys on this forum. I'm just not as witty as the others! HA!
Hi Tony

The Windows cleanup utility worked fine so I'm up to speed with the 2227c. I'm going to keep that version until the Cyberlink fixes the current bugs.

Cindy
Hi Tony -

Thanks for the link. I will try that. If I can't update patch 2227c, then I've got the previous patch loaded and it works OK.

Ya know, I used Pinnacle for several years prior to switching to PD and that program also has some of the same issues and complaints. And I'm sure if one uses the Adobe product or the Sony product or any other video editing product there are some of the same complaints. I decided to stay with PD because at least (up to this last debacle with the magic motion), they have been pretty good about fixing bugs. I hope they can come through with fixing this one!

Cindy
I reinstalled PD7 from it's original version (either v7.08 or v7.1714) with success.

When I tried to install any of the patches after that (2227c, 1915, etc up to the current patch), I get the error "can't load SKutil.dll" and the patch installation quits.

Is it telling me that this file is somewhere on my hard drive and if it is can I delete it to continue installation? Or what should I do?

Cindy
James, I don't know . . . maybe . . .

That was the problem I was having of it getting to 20% or so and then that "eb130581" error came up. Didn't happen with the DVD+RW (twice) as compared to 5 failures with the DVD-R, but I will try it again the next time I revise the project and see what happens a 3rd time with the RW.

Isn't that what they say, "3rd time's a charm?"

Cindy
Hey Debby -

I got the error burning eb130581 also when trying to burn to a DVD-R (Memorex). Additonally, the DVD drive wouldn't open until I rebooted. I wasted several DVDs - frustrating.

However, I tried a DVD+RW (Memorex) and successfully burned my project with no errors. Then I copied it (using another software) to a DVD-R just so I wouldn't accidently erase the RW disc. Don't really know why that worked, but it did. Although it took an extra step, it made me a "happy camper"!

I've done a little research on the brands of DVDs. Of course, I always go for the 100 spindle bargains at Sam's Club, but I'm now realizing that although they may be cheaper, they also tend to have more burning failures so I may not be saving a lot of money.

Try looking at this site: www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
and read this opinion about blank dvd media. I'm going to try a couple of types that they recommend and see if my burning failures become less frequent.

Hope that helps,
Cindy
I guess that seems like an extra step since PD is supposed to do the whole thing, but I tried that and I still only got the burning up to about 20% before I got that "eb130581" error. I thought I read in an earlier post that someone suggested it was caused by a Windows security update??? I guess I don't know that much about computers, but that seemed weird.

Anyway, I know this post is supposed to be about magic motion (didn't mean to change the topic), so I may start another post about re-installation and burning.

Thanks,
Cindy
Hi James -

I took your suggestion . . . uninstalled build 2519, reinstalled and rolled back to build 2227c on my quad core system. I was holding my breath as I opened the project that I initially did on build 2519 and VOILA!!! Except for a few tweaks of the music everything opened fine. And to my surprise all the magic motion effects worked perfectly. Don't know why it worked on my and not yours. I think I will stay with 2227c until this motion thing is fixed.

HOWEVER . . . now I have a new problem. When I got ready to burn the project, I got to about 20% and got the "burning failed code eb130581". I did a search on this forum and saw Dafydd stated it was a "write command failure when writing VOB files". The solution was to save it to a file (which I did), but now how do I burn it to disk? Is the Cyberlink DVD burning software good?

Cindy
Thanks for that different version James.

I will try that one since 2429a doesn't work. I just hope I don't have to re-create the WHOLE thing, but that looks like a real distinct possibility if I want to keep the motion . . .

Cindy
Hi Tony -

UGH!!!! I'm shuddering!!! I just got a brand new computer so I could start doing more projects with PD7 and I happen to still have version 2429a on my old computer. I tried to open my project (which I did) in the old version, but everything is still shaking!!! I guess I thought the shaking was part of the burn process and not the creative process!!! I don't want to think about starting over again as I am almost through with this wedding slideshow.

I don't think I'm going to do the uninstall and reinstall thing for this project. Rather, I'm just going to take all the motion off the photos and use them plain. BORING!

AND, I'm going to be optimistic and think that Cyberlink is going to fix this REAL SOON!! When I got on this forum, I did notice there were several posts regarding this issue . . .

Cindy
Sooooo . . . Dafydd, does this mean that I need to go back to the patch BEFORE 2519 in order to fix this shaky problem? I think the last version I have before that is 2429a.

Since I'm in the middle of producing a photo slideshow with 2519, if I uninstall and reinstall, will I still be able to open my current project in a previous version?

I agree, this is one of the best things about PD7 - any idea when they are going to fix this?

Cindy
This same exact thing is happening to me and I still have build 2519! Tech support, can you fix this?

Cindy
Just got a new computer . . . do I install the original version of PD7 first, then download only the latest patch? I think I read in an earlier post that is what I'm supposed to do. Everything is real clean right now and I don't want to mess anything up!

Thanks,
Cindy
