What is a "SKutil.dll" file?

I reinstalled PD7 from it's original version (either v7.08 or v7.1714) with success.

When I tried to install any of the patches after that (2227c, 1915, etc up to the current patch), I get the error "can't load SKutil.dll" and the patch installation quits.

Is it telling me that this file is somewhere on my hard drive and if it is can I delete it to continue installation? Or what should I do?

Hi Cindy -
I'm afraid I don't have a clue what it is or what it does or why it's giving you grief... but I can tell you where to find it.

C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}
and, not only but also...
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{D36DD326-7280-11D8-97C8-000129760CBE}

I'd uninstall with Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - download at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 - then try again.

I reckon Cyberlink ought to be paying us a loyalty commision or something!

Cheers -

Hi Tony -

Thanks for the link. I will try that. If I can't update patch 2227c, then I've got the previous patch loaded and it works OK.

Ya know, I used Pinnacle for several years prior to switching to PD and that program also has some of the same issues and complaints. And I'm sure if one uses the Adobe product or the Sony product or any other video editing product there are some of the same complaints. I decided to stay with PD because at least (up to this last debacle with the magic motion), they have been pretty good about fixing bugs. I hope they can come through with fixing this one!

Hi Tony

The Windows cleanup utility worked fine so I'm up to speed with the 2227c. I'm going to keep that version until the Cyberlink fixes the current bugs.

SKutil.dll is a module from your Liteon Burner. Run a utility like "Uniblue registry fixer"
OR do this:
Look for a file called skutil.dll. It should be in the C:\Windows directory or below. All you need to do is find where it is. In XP, it would be in C:\Windows\System32\. When you find it, open a command prompt, change to the proper directory, and run "regsvr32 /u skutil.dll" and then "regsvr32 skutil.dll".
