The CPU is an i7-4790 non K variant...its a normal Haswell processor..not Sandy Bridge, Kaby Lake..etc. I had written that reply while I was at work and must have been a typo since it was a reply on a cellphone sorry...
In Cyberlinks defense, their product WORKS as they intended it to be. As a test, without going crazy searching for content, try a 720p or 1080p movie and activate HDR through the Truetheatre enhancement. You will notice that it activates (considering the cable, tv and all other criteria is met).
Hitman, Shadow Warrior 2 and RE7 also activate HDR properly on my setup so its not a technical limitation on my end.
Yes, the 4k hdr files you are attempting to get to work from demo-uhd-3d.com do NOT work with the media player. For some reason, I cannot get those files to play on any media player well except for the default Windows TV app, but that player does not activate HDR at this moment..ive read it will on a future update. Those files DO play flawlessly when it is played on my TV via a USB dongle. So its just a matter of optimization because my TVs processor is nowhere near a GTX1060.
The Kaby Lake requirement is only for physical media. (Again, this is an issue that will take time to resolve as ive read Nvidia is releasing drivers for Netflix 4k support via the Edge Browser and Netflix Win10 app. I believe 4k uhd will work outside of the Kaby requirenents once they sort out the coding for the copy protection.
Lastly, I have enjoyed ripped 4k uhds with embedded HDR and it seems to work well with Cyberlinks software, better than anything else available for the PC at this moment (including MPC and the MadVR plugin for HDR bypass.

Why is there concern playing those specific demo files that are only a few minutes long anyway? As i mentioned, those files play on the default Windows10 media app (which is not running intergraded gpu on my processor)...PowerDVD17 played them well a few times, however it wasnt flawless.

Micea...I dont know why you insist on saying it doesnt when I have stated several damn times that it works....no im not talking about those damn demo videos from that site....im talking ripped UHDs in .mkv format.
However you feel to justify and get your purchase refunded go ahead and do it, just dont say it can and cannot do without troubleshooting.

Sorry, however you will have to find your own movie files to test. As a measure, if you have any 1080p movies on your computer, the HDR slider works i the same manner as a 4k movie file.
what HDR slider ?? i don't use trutreater video enhancements
True video enhancements on PC mode allow you to add HDR on 720 and 1080p files..and it works really well. On tv mode it is under the 100% option withion truetheatre video. I would suggest using that to determine if its your setup, not the programs fault.

Powerdvd 17 plays my 4k hdr just fine on my movie files, so its not an igpu issue...my rv is connected directly thru the 1060...
Graphics Processor (GPU)
Ultra HD Blu-ray: Intel 7th generation (Kaby Lake) Core i processors integrated with Intel HD Graphics 630, Intel Iris™ Graphics 640.
Note: Ultra HD Blu-ray is supported only if a display is powered by
Intel Graphics and supports HDCP 2.2. If your computer includes more
than one graphics processor, Ultra HD Blu-ray is supported only on the
display that is connected and powered by Intel Graphics.

there problem not ours
what's you pc configuration ??
You are quoting Ultra UHD Bku Rays...not ripped 2160P movies with embedded HDR metadata.

Dont judge anything by those files. I downloaded the world in 4k and it judders on the Windows10 TV and Media app (but plays hdr correctly), is black on the PowerDVD17...plays well natively on a USB drive thru the TV.
Those are high bitrate files that are not.good for playing on a pc at this point. Maybe the HiMedia 4k player will play it well, but not my PC. Power DVD 17 is great for playing x264 4k mkvs, 1080p HDR, etc. I guess there isnt a media player fully optimized on the PC to play these files.

I will download the same files..a few of the uhd files for test like the LG, sony and Samsung promos do not play well except via usb plugged to the tv.

So we dont have to beat a dead horse...for those interested in 4k playback outside of physical media, it will play those files...you do not need a special motherboard, cpu, etc... for physical media, at this point..forget it until nvidia sorts out the drivers needed to get it going. There is an experimental driver available to Windows Insider Program and the latest build downloaded to get Netflix 4k thru Edge browser on a gtx10 series card without a special motherboard or kaby lake processor. By the end of summer, that decryption should be available to all..including those interested in the pioneer uhd player.

HDR enhancement is NOT available for any file resolution above 1080p.
|
|
True theatre HDR enhancement does not appear on 2160p files. It only appears for 1080p and 720p files. For a 4k file, its greyed out.

I can confirm that HDR is working on 4k mkv files that have the HDR metadata enbedded. I am using a GTX1060 connected to a 4k tv with HDR. You have to male sure the following.
Your desktop is running at 4k resolution (nvidia control panel)
-10bit depth
4:2:2 chroma
-4k compatible hdmi cable
-a file that is 2160p with hdr
If you are trying to play physical media, you need a Pioneer uhd player, kaby lake proceessor and a ton of other worthless requirements that make it undesirable.
I have tested out native 4k movies and HDR works perfect. The 100% enhance mode on the video files 1080p or less works HDR as well. For some reason, 4k files that do not have HDR do not trigger the video enhancement option.
