Give up. This software will not work if you upgrade. Do not give this company anymore of your money.
That's a load of hoops to jump through. We use PD for editing video. Now, we find that we need to apply engineering, just to get this to work.
I've used windows movie maker to capture in the past as it does not create pixelation in the output. All of the versions of PD I've owned(5,6,7 and now "8") do not capture digital video well. What a disappointment to see that PD8 has not addressed this. By "pixelation", I mean, every 10 seconds or so, there is a small, but noticeable glitch that looks like digital squares all over the screen. Not a big deal though since there are many ways to capture digital video. It just would have been nice.

The reason I upgraded to PD8 was because of a suggestion on a forum string that suggested to upgrade when having issues. My main issue of the moment at that time was, PD7 all of a sudden decided to not recognize the audio type of the format imported. At least, that's what the properties of the track in the timeline says(select Properites - Audio=Type: Unknown format). I can hear the audio when playing the file(MPEG-2) when it's selected in the "Content" section. This is an MPEG-2 file created from Windows Movie Maker(Version 6.0 Build 6001: Service Pack 1). My machine is a Dell DXP061 with 4 gig ram, 32 bit Vista Ultimate spq, 2.66Ghz, Display adapter, NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS. I'm using PD8 build 2013.

Adrian, Interesting. Not exactly what I was hoping for. The marketing blurb on the comparison page at cyberlink.com said "Dual Monitor Support". I guess this is it. Not a bad feature though. It's kinda cool.

Thanks for the reply.
I just purchased PD8. The main reason was because I saw that it features "Dual Monitor Display". I have multiple monitors and cannot seem to see any difference in the "Dual Monitor Display" in PD8 and the non-"Dual Monitor Display" in PD7, i.e., the width of the app is still restricted to the width of a single monitor.

Anybody know what this is? I was hoping to be able to stretch my PD8 app across multiple monitors.

Thanks,

Jon
FYI: In resoponse to the advice in the Knowledge Base article: My monitor setting is 1280 by 1024 and I still can't adjust the boundry of my workspace beyond the width of one monitor. This is the same size as when the window is maximized.
I still think you don't understand. If you have Picasa for instance, you can span monitors with it's interface. This allows you to take advantage of your entire desktop across multiple monitors. Ex: Instead of 30 thumbnails, you could see 90 etc...

My timeline is now limited to the width of my screen/window/interface. I want it the width of multiple monitors.

Can someone else help me describe this more clearly?

I don't want "independent sections of the User Interface which can be repositioned into anther monitor". I don't even know what you are talking about there.

I want PowerDirector to not care that I have three monitors and just treat my desktop as the combined space of 3 monitors or 2 or 10, whatever. I can do this with all my other apps. Notepad even. I span monitors all the time using all other apps. My feeling is that it does span monitors and I've got some setting incorrect.
From KB( http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/product-faq-content.do?id=6054&prodId=6&prodVerId=219 )
"Why can't I adjust the boundary of my workspace in PowerDirector 7?
If your screen resolution is set to 1024x768, CyberLink PowerDirector 7 cannot be resized to focus on the timeline, preview window, or library. Please increase your screen resolution to avoid such problems."

This is closer to what I'm asking. I don't think my original request was understood. If I have a 5 minute video with lots of stuff going on in the timeline, i.e., pip, fades, effects, sound etc... with one monitor, there is too much zooming in and out necessary and when I select an audio track the timeline focus takes me to the begining of the track. This is frustrating.

PowerDirector is limited with respect to the size of it's "window". It can only be as wide as a single monitor. Please tell me that this is not true and that there is something that I can do to make it happen.

If I could "stretch" my PowerDirector" window across all 3 of my monitors, the timeline would essentially be 45"+ wide!!!! This would minimize zooming while I'm editing.

Also, I downloaded the upgrade to Photoshow Gold that allows saving as HD mpg. I imported the HD mpg-2 into PD7 and all is well now.
Here's the error details I get. I've only received this error recently. I've been on 7 for quite a few video's now. By the way, I actually got past the error. I had recently been able to Create Disk with no problem. I added an mpg created from another program that saved it as (NTCS/PAL). Then my problems began. When I deleted that mpg from the Master Video Track, I was able to Create Disc without the error.

What I do with mov files is create a project, add all mov files to the frames and produce as MPG 2. Then I use the MPG 2 file in my main project for editing. Works great.
Note to Product Team:

Add Multiple Monitor support to the next upgrade.

Currently, PD can span multiple monitors but not be stretched to take advantage of the width of more than a single monitor. This is odd behaviour in a Windows application. Why would you limit the width of an application?

All other video editing software on the planet supports multiple monitors.
All other applications on the planet support multiple monitors.

Whether this capability is essential or necessary is up to the customer. For this customer, me, this capability is essential and expected. I use multiple monitors(3) in my other video editors.

System Tray?
If I'm editing a 4 minute span of my timeline within, say, a 1 Hr video, with one screen the 4 minute span is pretty tight within one monitor, approx. 1 inch per minute. If I could span my session to 3 screens, I would have a wopping 3 inches per minute. I frequently need to zoom in on my timeline and cut, paste etc... If I could span my timeline to 3 screens, instead of a 15" timeline, I would have have a 45" timeline. I would be doing alot less scrolling and zooming.

Am I not explaining this correctly. I would like to take advantage of multiple monitors so I can triple my work space. Currently, the app does not allow expanding the session beyond the size of one monitor, like all other windows apps.
I want to be able to span my PowerDirector session beyond one screen, preferably, 3 screens.
I have 3 monitors. It would be nice to be able to stretch my PowerDirector session beyond just one monitor. The timeline is way too claustrophobic in one.
