Quote Obviously PD shouldn't crash no matter what kind of editing you're doing, and often crashes are the result of a bad video driver installation or underlying problems with Windows.

You might want to try the steps shown here to tackle both of those possibilities.

If the problem persists, please follow the steps shown in the Read Me Before Posting guide and attach the DxDiag test results.

Hello Mr OD! Apologies for my late response and thank you very much for your quick reply AND solution. Also thanks much for providing the links to those sites I needed to get to...

The first thing I tried was cleaning our the old driver and loading up the newest for my Quadro RTX. Went into PD365 (after it said it was configuring the best settings for my card), went right to adding tthe QUAKE effect on my desired clip, and WHAMMO! Worked perfectly! I guess since my GPU and system are very new I didn't think this would work, but by golly, it DID!

Thanks so much again!

EDIT: Just tried again and its crashing again... frustrating. I will check out your other suggestions...
Please help! My system is brand new i9 desktop... this should NOT be crashing on ANY effect imo. I've even set the resolution to low and it crashes regardless! Very frustrating cuz this effect is exactly what I need!
Quote Hi EV72 -

Your video clips don't happen to come from a Canon DSLR, do they? As optodata says, you'll get black bars if the video clips' AR doesn't match the project's AR exactly.

Some Canon DSLRs shoot full HD at 1920x1088, which is 8px taller that 1920x1080 (16:9). The result is often 4px bars on each side of the screen.

I usually just (slightly) resize them to take out the black bars.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony! And yes, you are exactly correct on this! I have a Canon DSLR camera. This is definitely what is happening. I used to be able to just go into each clip and add a fade in and out and PD12 would fit it to size, but now with 365 that workaround doesn't seem to work. What I did recently was just render my whole video, then render it again with a slight zoom in. This way I didn't have to resize a bunch of different individual clips.

Thanks again. I now feel like I know exactly WHY this has beeen happening!

Cheers...
Dave
Quote PD always fills the frame on two sides and will leave black bars along the other two edges if the media isn't exactly the same aspect ratio. Typically you'd use the PiP Designer to zoom in to fill the frame, or maybe levae the clip as-is and add a blurred backgound image or video to fill in the blank spaces.

Depending on how close the clip is to fitting, you can also try right-clicking on the clip and then try Set Clip Attributes > Set Aspect Ratio Settings and see if PD can automatically stretch it without messing up how it looks too badly.

You could also take a screenshot of the whole timeline + preview screeen so we could see your exact situation. Use Alt Print Screen or the Windows snipping tool (Win+Shift+S) then save the image as PNG or JPG. Click on the Attachments button below the forum's text box to upload and share it here.

Hi and thanks so much for your quick reply! I am not in the middle of a project so I have no screenshots to share yet, but I will in a week or so. I will try your suggestions though... Will let you know if it helps if you care to hear!

Thanks again!
Hello. I used to have this problem with PD 12 and now I've got 365 and I still have the issue. With PD 12 I was able to go into each clip and save a pre and post fade and then it would take the black bars away. Now I cannot find a quick fix for this and it can be a bit frustrating (the frame not fitting perfectly into the wide view automatically.)

Anyone else every have this issue, and if so can it be remedied fairly quickly and easily?

D
Hello, I have 2 issues currently. First, when I have crossfaded two video clips (I have new PD365 btw) I got a "tunneling" effect on the audio. This has happened intermittently. I also rendered a quick clip and it was in the render too. This weird crossfade audio anomaly isnt there every time though. I wonder if there's a limit on how short the crossfade transition should be for it to work right? I never had this problem with my older Cyberlink Director.

Also, when I drag clips into the timeline, I am noticing the clips aren't fitting the screen perfectly. There is a small black bar on both sides. I had this similar issue with my older Cyberlink program and I alway just fixed it manually by double clicking on each clip and enabling the fade in and out. With this new 365 program, I can't even do that, and it looks like on new clips there is that same issue. Am I missing a setting that will automatically fit my clips perfectly to the entire frame? And i am talking about 16:9 ratio.

Thanks very much for your time and answers!
Does anyone have experience with doing this? My system currently has about 1000 MB allocated to virtual memory and my system recommends about 4700 MB. I will probably try upping my amount and see what happens.
Hey Jaime-esque, thanks for the quick reply! I am using a mix of video clips from a Kodak playsport, and Iphone6 and a Go Pro. I have gotten a warning that the fps are slightly different on one type than the other. 29.7 fps vs 30... I figured that was too close to mess anything up.
Hello. When I use PD 12 for editing multiple video clips together I get a huge lag and nothing syncs properly. I have tried numerous things suggested. I have reduced the preview quality down to the lowest setting. I have disabled thumbnails on all the clips. I have freed up a lot of storage on my hard disk and have isolated where the program gets its files from. My system meets your requirements: Dell inspiron laptop with i7 chip. 8G Ram. Windows 8.Not sure what else to do. Please help!
