Hi,
I wanted to compress my files so I can fit approx 4 hours on to a standard DVD.
I am using PowerDirector HE3D 14.0.3218.0. 12GB RAM Windows 10. I have attached the dxdiag.
Following the advice on one of the threads I saved my files to a compressed format using Produce - I have 4 titles, total size of the files is 3.75 GB. I am guess this would not directly correlate but its a start.
Again following advice on a post, I though I would burn to a folder. I have 49GB free on c drive and 883 GB on D - so should really have no problem there!
Settings for the create disk are DVD-Video, Wide screen, MPEG-2 HQ.
Running time of files is just over 4 hours, but compression at SP or even LP have the same issue, and the same estimated project size - how does it work that out???? Sorry I digress.
When I try to burn to folder, even though it correctly shows my free space on D (where I am trying to write to) and it estimates the project is estimated at 18122 MB so clearly loads of over head, it will not do it. It tells me "The size of the imported files exceeds the ammount of available disk space"
So what is it looking for and why won't it let me do this? Yes I have a cheaper version of the software but this is really frustrating. The main point of all the editing is so I can write to DVD and it seems no matter what I try I fail.
I need some advice on the best way to get my files onto DVD without too much compromise on quality.
I did try the smartfit and burnt direct to DVD - but that just failed just after it got to 100% and I do see a lot on threads saying don't use it becuase its not very good.
Any advice on fitting video on to DVD in general, and maybe can someone tell me why I can not even write to disk! FYI tried to ISO too and that gave me the same error.
Many thanks
Becky

I do not think what you are trying to do is possible. If you were, the quality would more than likely be terrible. Rather than compress I think you must cur back on the amount of video in using a standard disk.
You may want to look at trying to do this with a double layer disk (8.5), which I still think is going to be poor quality, if it evens works. You may have to go to a blue ray disc. This is just my opinion.
There are a lot of knowledgable users on here and if there is a way more than likely they will offer you some help. Also there are many posts on the forum from others trying to get a large amount of video on a single stanfdard disk

tomasc,
Sorry I didn't mean to walk on your reply. I was in the process of sending my reply and got sidetracked. When I went back to send it I didn't realize you had already sent an excellent reply to Senores90.

Senores90 .
This has been a topic of discussion on this forum on several different occasions.
If I could, I would suggest that you do a search on the forum to see if you may find some information to help you.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 card on my computer and I really have no issues with it.
Good luck!

Hey georgiejr,
One way to learn more about PD 14 is to read this forum as much as you can and you'll see how the experts help those that ask for help.
Also there is an active link if you will scroll down on the message board that is titled "PD 14 Tutorials." When you click on that there are numerous tutorials on PD. It is loaded.
Also you can go to "youtube" and search for PD tutorials and you should see many.
Lastly do a search on this message board and you'll see where help was provided to many by other users responding back to them with help and ideas.
No doubt some of the Senior members may reply with more information for you in regard to your questions.
Regards,

For myself I found that the quickest and easiest way is to slide my mouse arrow over to the padlock on the timeline. You should notice a vertical arrow pointing up and down. Drag down to enlarge that particular time line.
More than likely there is a more formal way but that works great for me.

I use a capture device made by honestech. I use it to convert old vcr tapes to digital. It has software that allows you to several things but I import it to PD 14 for editing.

Hey all,
Hang in there and maybe someone will get you some help. I was having issues with captured avi files. Had an option to capture as MPEG-2 files rather than avi. Once I did this no more problems. Produce time is much faster also.

CS2014,
Good point.

elscybe,
This can be accomplished pretty easy. Since you already have your photos on the timeline it is just a matter of "selecting" all of your photos.
One way you can select all of them is by clicking on the first photo on the timeline; then press and hold the "shift" key and click on the last photo. They should all be selected at this time.(make sure you see a blue outline around each photo, which indicates all are selected).
Now you should see the word "duration" on the line right above your photos. Click on it and you should be able to adjust the duration for every photo to any amount of time that you would like. (of course each photo will have the same duration time.)
Also you can preset the duration for a project before placing your photos on the timeline. This can be accomplished by making a change in your preferences.
Look at the top of your window for PD and you should see a little symbol that looks like a gear. Click on that. Look on the left for the "editing" tab. Click on that and once it opens you should see down at the lower part "duration". Set it to what you would like.
Please be advised this is your new default setting for duration and all future duration times will be this unless you change it.
Hope this helps and I am sure if there is a better or easier way to accomplish this someone else will provide you with the information.

Your message is somewhat confusing. Are we to assume that you have a trial version of PD 14? If yes I am not too familiar with the trail version and I am sure it will be limited as to what you can do with it.
PD 14 will allow you to speed up your video and more than likely there are tutorials that will show you how to do it. Plus there are many good people on here that know how to do just about anything with this software.
I would suggest that you look online for these tutorials and review them. Perhaps then you may want to consider buying PD 14 and trying it.
This software allows you to do many things without too much difficulty.

Stevek,
You are right on.
Thanks

ISO option is available in PD 13, or at least it is on mine. i would make note of the folder that you are saving it in for future use so as to be to find.
If you do not name it then the name of it will be "default".

I too have the same issue with PD 14 with the “zoom in effect”. Once I noticed what was going on I contacted support via email and listed my problem. I told them that it worked fine on PD 13 and I thought PD 14 was an improvement so I couldn’t understand why in my opinion they were taking a step backward with this.
Anyway they responded with no good answer so I assumed that I would have to live with it. I have stand alone versions of PD 13 and PD 14. So I can apply this effect in PD 13 and then take into PD 14 with the effect remaining. The only thing is when you do this it becomes a PD 14 file.
Not sure why they changed this effect to cause this problem, but I do know there are people on this forum that will try to help as you may have seen already.
PS. Learn my lesson well; I will never update again unless there is a very major substantial improvement from one version to the next.
Cheers,
Dannie

You should be able to split your video on the timeline and assign the wanted effects to that section. that you have split
Every time you want a different effect for another part of the video then split it and apply the effect.
