I never found where to change the transition from fade to overlay.

I did figure out that if I close the project and re-open, poof, things are happy. And rendering seemed OK. Just seemed like preview was confused.

Thanks,

confundido
I know this is an ancient thread but this is happening with me. PowerDirector 13.0.3516.0.

I have video on two different tracks. I put a fade on one and a fade on the other. They overlap by approximately the time of the fade. I was hoping for a crossfade effect but instead I get some odd looking stuff with #1 disappearing and fading back in, while #2 pops in, disappears, and then reappears.

Tips?

Dennis
Btw, one time I fixed it by slightly moving the clip. Then the transition took on the desired direction. Easier than closing and re-opening the program, which seems to be the suggested workaround.

But then that's when I discovered Modify --> Fades.
Wow, long and old thread. I discovered I can use Modify and set fade-in and fade-out. Not as powerful as a transition but it allows me to cross fade my clips. So all good.
Most of my transitions seem to do what I'd expect but I've got one fade-in that insists on being a fade-out. The clip is preceded by blank space so I'd think it would fade up from black. But instead it brings the clip in at 100%, fades out, and then pops back on.

I don't see a property on the transition to cue it wrt direction.

Thoughts?
My audio is my "base." I've got the audio from my audio editing software (SONAR) and then just want to pop different video clips on top of it. So I can't really move the audio.
That moves the cursor. Is there a way to drag the clip by a little bit? I've already finished using my old "fiddle with transition length" approach. But it would be nice to nail down clip position and then apply transitions in some way where the computer figures out transition length to keep the clip in place.

Anyhow, kept it simple and it's done.

And to be even more specific, what I usually use PD for is I have recorded a song and want to edit some video to it. In the past I've just fiddled stuff into position. For this one I was hoping to get a bit more scientific and figure out how to really get the best sync between the video and the background music.

Does anyone have a pointer to a video or tutorial that would cover this particular scenario?

Thanks.
I be more specific I'm trying to sync audio and another post suggested dragging the clip by single frames. I'd prefer to have a "nudge" function so I could just hit a key and more it forward or back. A video I watched seemed to show free dragging but he wasn't zoomed into the frame level of the timeline.
Still trying to find good search terms for this, figured I'd post here too. I'm trying to drag a clip but it's only giving me very coarse resolution (1 second). In SONAR I can set the "grid" but I don't see how to do that in PD.

Thanks
Sorry, this thread just came up 1st when I searched for "lock powerdirector saving chapter titles" or some such. I do my projects between the cracks and have precious little time so I'm afraid I won't be able to run the diagnostics stuff. PD frankly has too many features. I just need non-linear editing and basic captioning.

Btw, my system runs fairly heavy audio DAW software (SONAR to be exact) without issues.

I know that's not doing video but the lockups always occur doing non-video stuff, mostly just housekeeping things seems like.
I'd hoped I could figure out how to avoid the glitches but I ultimately couldn't do anything without it locking. I had made it through the tough stuff, editing the video and all, and was just adding captions. It slowly started getting sick, sometimes simple operations taking a long time, and then finally just locking hard on about anything I tried. When it started locking on my safety saves I knew I was in trouble.
Still not solved apparently. It is not consistent. I can do a few edits and then its locks. I've gotten in the habit of trying to save after every edit but then it locks during saving. I will finish this simple short project and then look for another editing program.
Thanks for the tips. All good tonight, no more lockups. I saved every few minutes just in case. But things seemed real solid.
I quickly learned PD will lock up if you try to stretch a cross fade.

So I quit doing that and started saving frequently which is something I've learned to with my audio app (SONAR).

But then it locked up saving thumbnails or something.

Any tips on avoiding or workflow that is tried and true? PD13 fully patched, Win7, generic Gateway i3 machine, a cheapie from several years ago.

Batch processing completed. I should have time tonight to play with editing a bit more. Obviously I'm a PD newbie. I'll use Search to try to find where folks have discussed stuff but "black movie" wasn't turning up much of use for me. Thanks for the help Dafydd and Carl.
Ah ha, tried it and it works. Converted to h264 and life is happy. I used:

ffmpeg -i [camfile].avi -b 3000000 -vcodec libx264 [samfile].mp3

Sorry about the typos before. Typing on my tablet.

Dennis
Thanks fir the response, Dafydd. What format would you recommend? It'll just run 'hem thru ffmpeg before importing. It'd of course like to not lose quality so i'll stay at same resolution, use ample bitrate
I meant to mention this is PowerDirector 13 and I just installed the update from 2/24/2015. That fixed another bug where my video was always getting rotated 90 degrees when I drug it into a movie.

I can preview my media just. Most video is from an older Samsung NV7, AVI wrapper, ffmpeg shows these contents:

Duration: 00:00:20.99, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 2452 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4 (Simple Profile) (XVID / 0x4449565, yuv420p, 640x480 [SAR 1:1 DAR 4:3], 29.97 fps, 29.97 tbr, 29.97 tbn, 30k tbc Stream #0:1: Audio: pcm_mulaw ([7][0][0][0] / 0x0007), 8000 Hz, mono, s16, 64 kb/s

When I drag a clip to the movie, at first it is fine. But once I "clip" the front, the remainder plays as black. I hear audio, just no video.

Repro is 100%. I tried copying the keyframe attribs from the front snippet prior to deleting it and pasting into the remainder. No love. Seems like a bug, but is there a workaround? Thanks.
