drag resolution

Still trying to find good search terms for this, figured I'd post here too. I'm trying to drag a clip but it's only giving me very coarse resolution (1 second). In SONAR I can set the "grid" but I don't see how to do that in PD.

Thanks

I be more specific I'm trying to sync audio and another post suggested dragging the clip by single frames. I'd prefer to have a "nudge" function so I could just hit a key and more it forward or back. A video I watched seemed to show free dragging but he wasn't zoomed into the frame level of the timeline.

And to be even more specific, what I usually use PD for is I have recorded a song and want to edit some video to it. In the past I've just fiddled stuff into position. For this one I was hoping to get a bit more scientific and figure out how to really get the best sync between the video and the background music.

Does anyone have a pointer to a video or tutorial that would cover this particular scenario?

Thanks.

Just use the Comma key to move the cursor left 1 frame at a time and the period key to move that cursor right 1 frame at a time. That is probably what you mean by nudge.

Let us know if this is what you want,

That moves the cursor. Is there a way to drag the clip by a little bit? I've already finished using my old "fiddle with transition length" approach. But it would be nice to nail down clip position and then apply transitions in some way where the computer figures out transition length to keep the clip in place.

Anyhow, kept it simple and it's done.

Of course that moves the cursor. Your approach to video editing is different. I believe that in the YT video you posted that you want to provide a better lip sync. Try this :

  1. Be sure Snap to reference lines is checked. It is by default.

  2. Highlight the beginning of the clip. Unlink the clip video and audio.

  3. Move the cursor to the right 1 frame at a time.

  4. Move the audio clip to the right by drag and drop where the cursor is to lag 1 frame at a time to that cursor.

Better still just expand the timeline fully and you can then adjust the audio start lead or lag in 1/10 of a frame in accuracy by following steps 1 and 2 above first and then move that little white ball at the bottom left of the screen all the way to the right. You can then move the the audio portion of the clip relative to the video.

My audio is my "base." I've got the audio from my audio editing software (SONAR) and then just want to pop different video clips on top of it. So I can't really move the audio.
