I am not sure how I go about producing & making a dvd to this specification ... need help please

If you are sending a video on DVD-ROM, it must be in AVI format and saved in full resolution (720 by 576 at 25 frames per second) for broadcasting purposes. Please ensure your computer editing program's project settings are PAL (625/50) upper field first and not NTSC (525/60)

Perhaps I can ask ... is this what PD10 Produces in its AVI

Quote: AVI format and saved in full resolution (720 by 576 at 25 frames per second). Produce settings when PAL are (625/50)

Hi Ron,
DVD-HQ format is mpeg 2
DVD = vob files
vob = mpeg2
mpeg2 for DVD PAL = 720 x 576
mpeg2 for DVD NTSC = 720 x 480

If you want to ensure the disc writing process is completed quickly you do not Produce video to avi. You Produce video to the DVD-HQ/Mpeg2 format.

Thanks Dafydd.

My 1st post here was the need to clarify a TV channel requirement for a short video that is being submitted to them. I wondered if PD10 enabled me to meet their stated need, viz:

I have easily Produced to AVI and then burnt a dvd using MPEG2 ... am I on the right track? Bit of a novice at this but having fun & learning fast!.

Since they requested a AVI file, I believe that they are asking you to bun a DVD disk, with a AVI video as DATA, not a DVD Video Disk.

They are different formats.

So you need to produce a 720x576 PAL AVI video file and burn that file to a DVD DATA disk.

Just be sure you have PAL in preferences as your TV Mode.
In the Produce module if you select .AVI and use the DV-AVI profile, Profile name/Quality=PAL. You will produce the requested format.

Then copy or burn that video file to the disk.

Thanks for inputs.
I will send in the two discs just to be sure. The first that I produced in .avi and then burnt to dvd plays normally in the dvd player, as I would expect. The second is now the .avi file which won't open in my dvd player but can be opened WMP on the pc.

From what I have already learnt fro this forum, I usually make dvd's simply in MPEG2 ... quick and dirty! This .avi creates large files ...
