Hi.
I have started using a 1080p 42" TV (LG brand) for my workstation monitor, which works wonderfully for my music recording software and all other programs, except PowerDirector.
But in PowerDirector, the Preview screen that should allow me to view the video while I am in editing mode is just black. I have found no way to fix this.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or must I return to using a smaller computer monitor when editing videos?
I use PowerDirector 11 because modern versions do not allow audio to be synched to video at 100th of a second, which makes later versions of PowerDirector unusable for someone making videos of musicans, because the audio soon goes out of synch when using a10th of a second, and by the end of even a short video it is WAY out of synch.
I know this because I paid for an upgrade to PD14, which proved a waste of money.
If anyone knows if later versions returned to 100th of a second audio synch, I would be happy to know it. Thanks.

Well I only updated the NVidia after the problem started and was several versions behind.
But I cannot restore and lose all sorts of things I have done in the mean time.
I had not used Power Director for almost three months so it could be something at any time since July.

This is becoming a serious problem.
It is not an overheating issue. I have experienced the same blank screen when the computer was started minutes before and I cannot even hear the fan running.
And it is now happening more frequently.
I am going to try an full uninstall and reinstall as soon as I have time. But, do I need to move any project files before I do that?

Thanks tomasc,
That is possible. It does run very hot when editing. But I keep it on a grate suspended over the desk so it gets lots of airflow. And I try to keep the lid tilted, as I use a large monitor and desperate keyboard and mouse.
It had not occurred to me to look into having it cleaned on the inside. I guess canned air would do the trick, but I would take it to a pro computer guy to do it.

Thanks Carl.
I am not comfortable making changes to registry.
I do see I am several versions behind on my Intel driver. So am updating that and will see how it goes.
It seems odd to me though, that this would happen out of the blue, after working well for dozens of videos.

PowerDirector 11 issue – Preview goes blank for Play, but not when paused or stopped.
First of all, I installed the PD11 patch in January, and I reinstalled it today just in case that might help. It did not.
The project I am making now is using a video created by PowerDirector 11, as an H.264 AVC 24p file. Original file is from a Sony camcorder, used to create 99% of my videos. I had to sync audio to that file.
I have done tests, and the issue happens in projects I created months ago that never had the issue.
I have not used PowerDirector for two or three months. I do not remember if there has been any updates to my computer system and software in that time that would be relevant.
Now that I am using PD again the preview screen keeps blanking out. It turns a dark purplish black, which is noticeably different from an actual black screen.
When the video is paused or stopped the image returns. The moment Play is pressed, it goes blank again. It is blank in title edit screen too.
It does not render as blank video. The videos are produced normally even when the preview screen is blank.
But it makes it impossible to work on videos.
Exiting Power Director and re-opening resolves the issue temporarily, but it returns minutes later. Shutting down or restarting the computer has no effect on this issue.
My system:
Sager laptop
Windows 8.1 Pro
Intel Core i7-4700MQ @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz
Intel Graphics 4600
GeForce GTX 780M
Available Video Memory 1792MB (shared)
16 GB RAM
64 bit OS
More information:
I have timed this issue. It happens between 9 and 15 minutes into editing. Usually closer to 9 minutes.
The issue appears when I click on a segment of video and then click into another track with empty space. It has also happened when I was exiting the Mask screen. And when working in the titles screen, adjusting the fade out times.
Sometimes it is after I split, deleted or moved a segment of video. But in tests, it will happen simply by clicking on a segment of video and then clicking into another track.
It does not happen if I am just letting a project play through. It only happens when adjusting things or clicking on something after I had adjusted something else.
My projects are pretty simple, being demonstrations of acoustic guitars, with subtitles, edits every one to two minutes. Videos rarely exceed six minutes.
Please advise.
Thanks

Well it is my fault i moved the files to an external drive that then stopped working.
But I just bought a $2,000 laptop because PD11 will not work correctly with my Duo Core, 8GB, W7 machines.
And I cannot use it for its purposes. I have written customer service and tech support more than once, and received no reply as of yet.
I have until this afternoon to get this working or I will lose a contract worth thousands of dollars.
So in about 60 minutes I will be writing off my purchase of PD11 as a business loss and purchasing another video editing program.
It will most certainly not be from Cyberlink.

Not heard back from them yet. But I did find a word document that had the product key in it and some other information.
Anyone have any idea where I might go to re-download?
Could I download a trial version on the new PC and then put in the product key to get a full version??

thanks, I cleared out all download files as my pc ran out of space I will contact customer service

Hi.
I got a new laptop that is more powerful than my desktop. So I will be able to see my fades and transitions while in editing mode.
I have the product key from member zone, but where do I go on line to download PD11 my new laptop, it will be replacing my old Sopwith Camel desktop?
Thanks

Ah grand! Thank you so much.
So all three matter, faster processor, RAM for multasking and video card memory.
Will move forward. Thanks again.

I need to get a laptop (looking at 15.6" screens so it is genuinely portable, as I need it for remote music recording. $1,500 or less if possible)
BUT it will be my main PD11 editor. Where do I spend the big bucks? i.e. what matters most when PD11 showing clip to clip transitions correctly while in editing mode?
Processor and processor speed? Hard drive speed? Video card and memory? RAM? Etc.? What are the recommendations for those specs, and if I upgrade any one or two of them, which ones will go the farthest in making the transitions truly WYSIWYG while editing videos?
And which matter the least?
My current laptop was a throw away from an old job, zero video capability.
My desktop is just too old. When I use Power Director 11 to make 3 minute videos, where I want to fade or cross fade between two short clips, 90% of the time my video preview will not show the transition correctly. It freezes, then the video goes ultra high speed to catch up to the sound.
So, for me to see my transitions from clip to clip, I must render an whole video (a 5 min video in HD takes almost 1 hour, tiny AVI takes 12 minutes or more.) So I waste a LOT of time since I cannot view my transitions while i am editing video.
So, I am going to buy a laptop that is better than my current desktop. I will just set up a bigger monitor etc when using PD11.
I was thinking of going with a mid-priced "gaming" laptop that had at least 3GB dedicated memory for the card (GTX 770?) because I do play one MMP game on line.
I have never bought a laptop, however. And all my PCs are 4 yo.
I assume video editing requires more umph than gaming. So what specs should I not skimp on, and which are bells and whistles that will not effect PD11 performance?
Thanks

I need to get a laptop with a sane price.
I will be using it mainly for remote sound recording, but thought I would get something that had some decent video quality.
It would be great if I could actually run PD11 on it too.
My desktop PC runs PD11, BUT I can NEVER see any video transitions correctly. Simple fades stop the video cold until the effect runs, when it leaps ahead in high speed to catch up to the soundtrack.
I have learned to "produce" low res movies to watch my transitions and then tweak them. A bit of a drag, but it works.
The PC is a bit old, a custom Puget Systems build with Micron guts.
Processor: Core 2 Duo, E6750 @ 2.66Ghz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 ti (2GB 256-bit GDDR5)
8 GB RAM, the max it will take.
Win 7 64-bit
I assume modern laptops will out perform it even with the fancy card. But I cannot spend a lot of money.
When it comes to splurging or cutting corners, and trying to keep it as close to $1,000 as possible, what features other than RAM will matter most when it comes to get PD11 to meet and exceed my needs?
Here is an example of what I primarily use PD11 for.
http://onemanz.com/guitar/reviews/acoustic-guitars/lowden/o50c-african-blackwood/
Simple HD vids and titles, synched to a hi def sound track, lots of subtitles, photos etc.
My question really is, will 8 GB RAM on a laptop be enough to run PD11 correctly for the kind of work I am doing?
I expect to get a 15" for portability and to keep costs down.
Thanks!

I just discovered this TOO!
If I cannot crop and mask after replacing the audio track with synched hi def audio recorded with a pro audio program I am uninstalling this product and calling my credit card to challenge the purchase.

Hi. It is not exactly what I mean, but yes that would be GREAT.
But weirdly, I no longer have PowerTools available.
I had it yesterday. I saved the project as a different project, applied a different wav as the sound track, but when I select a clip I no longer see the options I did yesterday, that included Power Tools.(???)
Very weird. But I cannot find PowerTools anywhere to choose crop.
And I still cannot find anywhere that has a plain black mask, just a bunch of silly nonsense overlay stuff for little kids I guess.
Yesterday, I would click on a clip on the time line and somehow I got Power Tools to show directly above the timeline (below the preview monitor and media file library. Today it does not happen!

Thanks for the quick reply.
In this case, no. The clips are really all the same 24 min clip, but my video camera was accidentally set to chop it into 5 min increments.
It is about 24 minutes of video in total. I need to add a hi def wav file, synch it up with the video, then cut the video down to about 4 minutes.
So I can actually wait to do the crop or mask, or both until the 4 min video is made, now that I think of it, and just reload the "produced" 4 min video, and crop THAT.
But for future reference I would like to know how to mask and or crop different clips along the same time line and have them all end up with the same mask or crop.

|
Figured out how to find and use Power Tools to crop. But the zoom only applies to one clip. How can I say use the same crop for other or all clips in the video? I mean I can eyeball it and try to make them match, but I am unable to actually get the exact same result.
Also, Is there a way to "letter box" it? I am shooting samples of acoustic guitars. If I use the crop to remove the intruding face of the guitarist, I lose so much on the sides that I cannot see the entire guitar. Is there a way to crop outside of the normal aspect ratio, or if not, is there a way to add a letter box that will black out the top and bottom while leaving the sides long enough?

I just bought PD 11, and then I see several sources say that H.264 is the best format to use for Youtube now.
But I did not find any way to Produce in that setting.
I was surprised when my first video was rejected by Youtube, because it was m2ts.
So now I am trying a custom setting for MP2.
Someone suggested to drop the target bit rate and max bit rate way down to 11-17. I assume that meant 11000, since 13000 was the lowest choice.
That seemed to work very well.
BUT my closing credits lost their character preset. I went with the default from the trial version, which was Courier New, but made to look sort of worn down pixelated.
The finished video was very clean font.
Anyway, I am more curious about the H.264. And if that is not available, what would be the best choice for Youtube?
Thanks

Thanks. It was the zig zag that got me in trouble, I had way too many dots, as I thought each one was the same one.
I will say, it would make more sense to me if you had to hold down Ctrl, or a similar key before adding a dot to the line.
The way it is, even if you go to click on a dot, if you miss by even a hair, you added another dot.

Thanks. I had found the restore to default audio level right after I posted, but never found the balance. That is awesome. Thanks!
