Brilliant! Also Part 2 worth looking at.
Thank you for sharing this valuable detail
Ref Neil's pc spec ...
PD10 Ultra v1703. Computer: HP Pavilion dv7, Intel, i7 2630 2.00 GHz, 8GB RAM, ATI Mob. Radeon HD 6770 2GB, Windows 7 Pre. 64

I also use a similar spec HP dv6 set up without major problems. I accept an occasional programme glitch but in fairness to PD10, when it 'crashes' its mostly 'down to me' ... trying to speed things up during editing. Some patience is useful, allowing the programme to act on your wishes
Ron
That is neat Carl ... I'm sold!
I forgot you can streeeetch most images over an entire project.
Being forgetful, I better now go and check if you can add a new Track 1 on top of everything else after doing all the editing
Thanks for this memory jog
Ron
Good idea, Jim.
Thanks Hal ... looks like I am doing the right thing then.
I personally have not had any problems with this approach or in the final dvd version ... plays correctly on my and others dvd players eg no 'short fat and hairy or long and thin people versions'. One of our long distance friends though gets the 'stretch version' so it must simply be their TV/DVD Player set up. I will try to guide them to fix it.
Ron
Most of my projects are a combination of 16:9, 4:3 or other custom/freeform sizes through cropping etc. I always use the 16:9 Edit setting on Projects with some eg jpeg cropped to this size to fill a widescreen. Other, non 16:9 jpeg or videos display with varying size black screen borders.

What problems, if any, arise from using 16:9 and not 4:3 in a final dvd production ... why do Cyberlink say 'make sure your project aspect ratio syncs with the aspect ratio of your media'
Thanks
Ron
Quote: Sorry, my comment wasn't complete. You can "produce" at one quality and "burn" at a different quality, even if you are burning your previously-produced video.

Hei Jerry,
For burn I always use DVD Video/HQ Best Quality. This delivers good quality.
Ron
Quote: Are you burning the previously produced video, or are you burning the project itself?

Producing and burning are completely separate operations, and you can produce at one quality and burn at a different quality.

Hei Jerry.
I used the previously produced video to burn the dvd so the source material is OK.
Next time around I will try some different approaches ... most importantly the actual dvd was the sort of quality that I was hoping for.
Ron
Thanks for that info, Dafydd ... interesting reading.

Quote: ... A second try at AVI may have also produced a good video ...

Thanks for reply.
I tried to Produce the Timeline on at least 3 occasions, making a few changes to text/transition of the photo preceeding the AVI movie but with no improvement. Interestingly the AVI is just 20MB but when I Produced this in PD10 to an mpg the mpg file size was 48MB.
I think it must be somehow due to the pc resources as you suggest. I could easily Produce the AVI to an mpg file as a stand alone production. Will check again next time I get to use an AVI file.
Ron
Thanks for your inputs. The WMP is the latest version & up to date. Settings used for Production were MPEG2, DVD HQ, PAL with none of the 'go fast' features enabled. I never use fast rendering.

I don't want to waste your valuable time further on a matter of 'interest only'. I don't much use the WMP to view my end results other than to check that it was Produced successfully. Will try another pc viewing programme at some stage ...
Ron
Hei Carl, thanks for fast response.
As I indicated, I have the 'lesser quality' viewing the mpg in the external viewer, Windows Media Player, which was why I was curious.
Just recently, I completed a 30 minute project which included some slides, text, MPEG2 videos and one short AVI video which came from a small camera. The project played OK on the pc from the Timeline but, when I produced the Movie Clip mpg, at the start of this clip (which followed a still slide) the movie was not correctly produced for the first few seconds eg a lot of erratic 'black screen' as it seemingly corrected. I converted the AVI to MPEG2 and the complete movie produced correctly.

So I get the result I want but what could be the reason? I have a good i7 processor (Intel i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz), 8GB memory and stacks of HD space. The graphics include Radeon (TM) HD 6770M (HP). Not the most powerful set up but usually OK with very few failures.
I am curious ...
When I have completed an Edit I then Produce a Movie Clip using MPEG2, DVD HQ (PAL). This produces an 'average' result for viewing in eg Windows Media Player. Later, I select this movie in Create Disc and make a DVD Video using MPEG2 at HQ best quality. The resulting dvd is excellent quality.

Why the significant difference in output quality ... am I doing something wrong?
Quote: I shot a time lapse this morning. 3657 photos.

Fantastic Tom ... what equipment does one use to get so many time lapse pics Or even just 500 fairly rapid shots.
You have given me some ideas about the stills and videos that were shot at my recent 'big 0' event.
Thanks for these links Cranston ... will experiment some more.
Ron
Still learning
As a 'training' experiment, I have opened a short video which I want to modify. Its some monkey's dancing (yep, stupid I know!) and I want to change one of the faces. I can see that I can, frame by frame', overlay and position another face by using a still picture and inserting multiple copies of it on the Timeline ... the length of the still matching the length of the frame. But this takes ages, inserting and correctly positioning.

Is there a quicker method?

Ron
That makes good sense Nina, especially in a teaching role.
I must now get some 'screen capture' practice ... had some great inputs from everyone. Its a really helpful forum for those of us bearing 'learner plates!'
Ron
Hei Nina,
Thanks for your comments. I don't understand the 'bitrate' thing yet but am reading fast! So I am wondering what 'capture' settings I should use for a good result. Of course I can experiment but why not ask the experts?

The software I am planning to use to incorporate 'video' into PD10 Project/s is for capturing 'live' off the screen eg displaying screen set ups, mouse movements, incorporating sound, pc webcam etc and to modify various pics/family videos that I have on my pc. Plus, no doubt, uses I haven't even thought of yet! Being many miles from my family, making dvd's for them is a real pleasure and I am working hard at raising my skills! My other recent thread ... if that is what you refer to ... was my novice attempt to explain what sort of product I was looking for. You have raised an interesting point however ... I sometimes can download and "edit" what I want to have ... can one 'edit' downloads or does it have to be 'full unmodified download?' I guess that it depends on the rules of the various providers.

Just got the answer I was looking for ... thanks Dafydd
Are these OK settings for (other product) screen capture to import into PD10 or should I change them?

Potential risk = Any hyper-link posted to a non-CyberLink site should be treated with caution!

Very valid Dafydd ... I have been caught by 'links', though some time ago. Browsers etc nowadays can be 'stitched up' much tighter to help avoid these intrusions.
