Are these OK settings for (other product) screen capture to import into PD10 or should I change them?

Ron,
a bitrate of 30 000 ? (did I read right?)
That's a bit heavy, isn't it?
Ron, I'm not quite sure what you are aiming to do.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Are you trying to screen capture a video from internet
that in the first place isn't made available for download?
Because if you are, aren't you trying to use something that's
not supposed to be usable for anything else?
Example: Nrk (which you will know) will sometimes let you download video,
and sometimes not. Same for TV2 (which you probably also know).
If I want to play something in class from these news channels, I sometimes
can download and "edit" what I want to have. Other times, I just have
to display the stuff right from online.

Hi RonH,
I have used MS's Expression Encoder with PD10. The bitrate is fine. The frame rate is fine but I up it to 30fps. The quality to 100%.
Rendering the file to frame size and max bitrate of 20.000 works ok.
The wmv imports into PD10 without a problem. Frame size - make sure you work out the 16:9 values ot you'll have display issues and may need to either stretch or crop.
Audio for screen capture, select Stereo Mix. Do a few tests to see if it works ok and drag the file into PD.

As I mentioned, PD edits these files easily. Screen capture of any video is do-able with this capture program.

I'm not giving support for 3rd Party software nor am I recommending this software but it is mentioned here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/17508.page somewhere, Jerry posted the info to help with showing user issues.

Hei Nina,
Thanks for your comments. I don't understand the 'bitrate' thing yet but am reading fast! So I am wondering what 'capture' settings I should use for a good result. Of course I can experiment but why not ask the experts?

The software I am planning to use to incorporate 'video' into PD10 Project/s is for capturing 'live' off the screen eg displaying screen set ups, mouse movements, incorporating sound, pc webcam etc and to modify various pics/family videos that I have on my pc. Plus, no doubt, uses I haven't even thought of yet! Being many miles from my family, making dvd's for them is a real pleasure and I am working hard at raising my skills! My other recent thread ... if that is what you refer to ... was my novice attempt to explain what sort of product I was looking for. You have raised an interesting point however ... I sometimes can download and "edit" what I want to have ... can one 'edit' downloads or does it have to be 'full unmodified download?' I guess that it depends on the rules of the various providers.

Just got the answer I was looking for ... thanks Dafydd

Hi Dafydd

Are you saying that you would use 30fps at 20Mbps to make your Power Director Tutorials,
or are these recording values for screen capture of something else?

I ask as this must put a very heavy load on a PC already running Power Director.

What sort of fps and bitrate do you use for screen capture of PD tutorial material.

Regards Patrick

Ron,
by “edit” – I mean:
If I can download 8 min of a news video, and only 3 min of it is interesting
for me/the students to discuss in class, I can cut out the 5 min I don’t need. The 3 min I
can then make available for the students without interference from news
other than the topic. (The clip will still have the signature of Nrk/TV2.)
Otherwise, I will have to “rewind and replay” from online

I would like to see more inputs of bitrate settings for screen recording,
not producing. Anyone?

Nina

That makes good sense Nina, especially in a teaching role.
I must now get some 'screen capture' practice ... had some great inputs from everyone. Its a really helpful forum for those of us bearing 'learner plates!'
