I have a major project where I have two sets of videos from a drone. One set is from the camera in the drone. The other set it from a phone taking video of the drone externally (as it goes by, etc.). I've tried mixing these with PIP and the workload to make that happen is too much. So I want to create some video snips from the phone video, and place them into the media library. Then in the video from the drone I will insert the "fly by" clips from the phone. Problem is I find no way to save the phone clips into the media library so I can insert them as needed into the main video. So here are my questions...

  1. Is it possible to save a clip in the timeline into the media library -- kinda like when you do a snapshot it puts in in the library.

  2. Is there a better/alternate way to do this?

Thanks for any tips/directions you can provide!

I assume you mean the Fix / Enhance > HDR Effect capability vs any HDR video import improvements. This PD HDR Effect has not been listed as an "enhanced" or "improved" feature in any release since PD17.

About the best upscale success for me has been Topaz Video AI. They just released a new version which I've got little experience with but used the prior release significantly. It is very time consuming, compute intensive, and has specific hardware requirements but often does a very good job of upscale. I'm not sure what relatively inexpensive is, for the new release they offer it at $159 through 11/4. Free updates for 1 year and you own it, none of this lease crap. They do offer a full trial to see how it works for your source content.

Jeff

Thanks for the info!
Quote There is really any better hdr support in the latest PD21 over PD17.

Thanks for the response. I'm assuming you really meant "isn't" instead of "is". I would have thought it would have improved over the last 5 releases.

Is there a relatively inexpensive third-party converter/processor that does a good job of converting SDR to HDR? I understand that doing it with software is only emulating a true HDR camera that takes multiple pictures, and the same results shouldn't be expected, but I'd like to "dress up" some of my videos with HDR like colors, lighting, and textures.
Has the HDR effect processing and results improved any since PD17? In other words, is it worth it to upgrade from 17 to 21 to get much better HDR effect results? Has anything changed?

Thanks!

Simply get the offset times for the start of each clip from Multicam Designer since you like that method and apply the same shift to the timeline clips.

Jeff

Good idea. I also discovered that multicam designer can create a "collage" where you can choose the layout and it will create it for you. In my case I chose 4 equal sized boxes and it worked perfectly. A real time saver! :o)
In the Multicam Designer one can synchronize/align tracks by using "markers" at the correct point in each video clip. However in the Edit module, I can't find a way to do the same with multiple tracks, unless you use the "audio sync" method. This is not available to me because I don't have audio tracks. I need to synchronize the timing of each tack relative to each other (they are multi-camera views from a flight simulator, that I want to have all four on the screen simoutaniously and in sync time-wise). Adding a timeline marker just goes on the timeline, not on the video clip. I'm having a heck of a time trying to do this manually. Is there a way to do this similar to the Multicam Designer method? It would sure save me a lot of grief! Thanks!
Quote I followed the instructions in the PDF file, and no longer get the error message. We'll have to wait and see until the next update of it's a permanent fix. In any case, thanks for contacting SmartSount and getting this info.

This wasn't a permanent fix. The error message came back the first time CL had another update for the music. So updates going forward are not installing.
PD 17.0.5003.0

Whenever I go to Magic Motion Designer the aspect ration is set to "Freeform". I have to remember to set it to "16:9" before setting any keyframes. If i forget and set keyframes first, they are erased when selecting "16:9". This is really a bother. Is there a setting somewhere to set this to default to "16:9"?

Thanks!

In any case, thanks for contacting SmartSount and getting this info. I normally do contact the provider, but erroneously assumed they would no longer support QuickTracks.

Be advised the PDF references a file, but does not have a link to it. The file name is master.ssdb. I found it here.

Barry,

I copied the SmartSound folders to another drive to preserve my purchased music sets. Then I uninstalled SmartSound QuickTracks and Common Data. Then I deleted all residual folders, and removed everything SmartSound for the Windows Registry. Then I installed the full package downloaded from the CyberLink support site (QuickTracks + Common Data). I did not contaminate the fresh install with any old stuff. There was no affect on the problem, except that now there are even more updates it wants to install that it can't.

There used to be a "standalone" version of QuickTracks that I had installed several PC's ago, that was useful in diagnosing and resolving QuickTracks issues. But it is no longer availabe from SmartSound, or any download site I could find.

I think Cyberlink unintenitally clobbered something with their latest PD17 update. I would submit this to CL support, but they would just say QT has not been support since PD14. Going to SmartSound won't work because they will just say QT is no longer supported. Going to SonicFire won't work because it's not supported in PD.

At least I know it's not something on my PC, because other people are having this same problem. If you could use your clout to get CL support to try this broken function on their own PC's perhaps they can some up with a quick fix of some kind. I suspect that something in the PD control files is no longer pointing to the QuickTracks folders correctly. If I could get the standalone version of QuickTracks 5 I could test this out.
No, it doesn't prevent QT from working, but free additional music does not get applied. QT stopped being supported in PD14, but it's backwards compatible with QT 5.1.8 which was the last release available. QT is no longer available from SmartSound. It was replaced by SonicFire, which doesn't have a plug-in for PowerDirector.
Since installing the last update to PD17 (5003) I've been getting the attached error message. Prior to this QuickTracks updates were installing OK. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5.1.8.0 to no avail. Is anybody else having this problem? If so, were you able to fix it?

Subject: PD says not connected to internet

I'm getting a not connected to the internet message when I attempt to get sound clips or background music. I was able to get sound clips on day-1 of project, but on day-2 started getting error message on the same project. Attached is the message. + The message occurs when selecting Sound Clips or Background Music + Clearing the cloud cache makes no difference + Rebooting makes no difference + Starting a new project makes no difference + On day-1 of a project I was able to add sound clips. Continuing the project on day-2 I get the attached message. The only thing that happened between day-1 and day-2 was the PC was rebooted. + My browser and email work, and can get to templates from within PD. + PD 17 - 3005
Quote Yes, user Stephen92 said that he did in the post just before your first post.

I'll submit a ticket.

I forgot to say (as it goes without saying) that my browser and email work, and I can get to templates from within PD.

Has anybody reported this issue to Cyberlink problem reporting?

Quote There are several threads on here already, and this is the most recent. It's also fairly comprehensive.

Thanks. I installed PDSpeed.
I would like to add keyboard shortcuts to the actions in the Tools>Power Tools menus and the Fix/Enhance menus and to the Time/Length Change action. I understand how to make shortcuts for some of the top-of-screen menus, but things like Crop/Zoom/Pan are not there. Is there a way to do this, or has someone already made a downloadable enhanced set of keyboard shortcuts?

P.S. Ideally there would be a way to got to any action anywhere, left click it, and choose "make a keyboard shortcut" for it.

Quote PDuser97031B, I maintain what I posted earlier. The behaviour of freeform keyframes in Motion Designer is the same in PDR 17, 16 & 15. Cheers - Tony

I take your word for it. Which makes the subject of this post misleading. Either I went from PD14 to PD17, or I didn't use freeform in PD15. Mea culpa.

In any case, the problem still exists -- in freeform, changing the size of any selection affects the aspect ratio of all the other keyframes. This makes freeform useless. If they don't want to fix the problem, they should just remove the freeform option. But I see how freeform could be useful/desirable.

Later...
