Hi

I am having a strange problem. I had edited a clip in the past and all had worked fine, today i went to open my saved edit file and all looked normal except one clip in the timeline was not playing, it almost looked like the video file had been removed from it's location and it was playing a empty container. The time was running but no picture was moving on the clip, every other clip on the timeline was normal.

I then went to the location of the clip and opened it up to see if everything was ok, and all seemed fine. I then deleted the clip from the timeline and re-added it. Now it adds the clip but for some reason it only adds 32 seconds of the clip where as the clip is over 6minutes long.

I then closed PD completely and then opened a fresh empty copy. I then added the same clip to the timeline and still it only adds 32 seconds of it, where as before it was reading the full clip fine. I have checked multiple times now if the clip is ok. all media players play it fine.

I had recently updated to the beta version so i thought maybe that was the problem, so i uninstalled PD and reinstalled it to the latest version without the beta and still same problem.

My specs are below

Windows 7 64bit
i7-3930k
8gb ram
GeForce GTX 580
160gb SSD that PD and video file are on

Video details

Video: MPEG2 Video 1440x1080 (16:9) 29.97fps 25000kbps [Video - MPEG2, Main Profile, High1440 Level, 1440x1080, 29.970 fps, 25.00 mbit/s (0810,e0,00)]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 384kbps [Audio - MPEG1 - Layer 2, 48.0 kHz, 2 chn, 384.0 kbit/s (0814,c0,00)]

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ok cool. thanks for the help.
Do you mean i should free space on the drive with PD installed? I don't think freeing space on all the other drives will make much difference, also C and J are both SSD, not sure why it isn't showing up that way.
Hi Dafydd,

I have disabled shadow files and updated to the latest beta version. I believe it is working better now, but there is still a 5 second lag when i am jumping through the timeline. It even lags when i try to preview the area that i joined with the fade effect, like it will get stuck for a few seconds, i'll then move it back to preview the same area and might have to do this 3-4 times before i can actually see how the fade between the 2 clips look without any lag.

I have attached the DxDiag file.

Thanks for the help!
Hi,

I have had this problem for a long time now, maybe since i first tried PD from version 9 and now i decided to try PD 12 to see if the problem was fixed and still the same thing.

When i add my m2t files to the timeline and then try to preview them it gets really slow and choppy, it sometimes works ok but when i start to do big jumps between the timeline or try to skip to different areas fast it gets really bad and lags for maybe 10-20seconds then starts to play ok again, even when i just press the play button it sometimes will start to lag and freeze for a couple seconds.

I have a decent computer and both PD and video file are on a SSD. I also have the shadow file enabled in PD and still same problem. Is there something i could try that could maybe make it more smooth when trying to edit in the timeline?

Hello,

This ones kind of hard to explain, but let's say you were recording something and you had to pause the recording for a few seconds and then continue recording, now obviously there is a bit of a jump at this section, is there some way to correct this in powerdirector? maybe by filling the section with extra frames or some other method?

Thanks
Thanks for the reply guys.

The videos are being uploaded to a site and the original files are over 7gb. That is why i am encoding them to 720p to bring the file size down and keep the best possible quality within doing that.

I don't think there is enough options in PD, it seems a bit limited when it comes to encoding. I believe if i was able to encode at a slower speed with high settings, I'd get much better result rather than PD rushing the encoding process.
Hi,

I want to improve my 720p mp4 encodes as i believe i can get a bit better quality with the bitrate i am using.

I'll start with my specs first.

ASUS P9X79 PRO
i7-3930k
8gb Ram
GTX 580 DirectCU II
Win 7 64bit

The details on original video file.

Video: MPEG2 Video 1440x1080 (16:9) 29.97fps 25000kbps [Video - MPEG2, Main Profile, High1440 Level, 1440x1080, 29.970 fps, 25.00 mbit/s (0000,e0,00)]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 384kbps [Audio - MPEG1 - Layer 2, 48.0 kHz, 2 chn, 384.0 kbit/s

When i encode the file to mp4 these are the settings i am using.

1280x720
MPEG-4 AVC
Frame rate 29.97
Bitrate 5000kbps
High Profile
CABAC
Speed quality on high quality
deblocking is checked.

Fast video rendering technology "checked" with Hardware video encoder selected, can't select SVRT anyway.

Now once the file encodes it doesn't take very long maybe 10-15minutes? the quality is decent but i believe it can look better. I also don't want to change the bitrate as the file size is big enough and this is pretty standard bitrate for 720p.

I have also noticed that before i start encoding if i uncheck the "fast video rendering technology" which removes the hardware video encoder. I actually get better quality, i have compared both videos and the one without the fast video technology has much more clear detail, in fact i am happy with this quality, the only problem is, with this method i notice that some bits of the video get jittery and blocky at times?

Anyway i want to ask some of the experts if there is some other settings i can change that might result in better quality and why is some bits getting blocky when i uncheck fast video technology?

Thank you

Thanks CubbyHouseFilms. I will take a look at that site.
Ok that's strange. I don't get how they haven't fixed such a simple problem.
I came across a problem with some custom fonts i installed. They show up in PD but once i save the template it just reverts back to the default font

Any ideas why this might be happening? I checked my windows font folder and the font i'm trying to use is a otf file.

Thank you!
I guess i will leave it alone then. Thanks for the info!
Opps, i thought i posted in the powerdirector forum. Can someone please move it into the right section?

It's not a huge problem or anything but i still do want to remove it, as i will be putting my videos online and it just doesn't seem right having "SONY PSP" in the media info.

Hi,

I was wondering how you remove media info? for example i have a custom mp4 profile and once i encode my video it has "Sony PSP" in the media info, is there some way i can remove this? I tried to find it in the profile.ini file but no luck.

Thanks!

Nah you won't see them in the timeline unless you stretch it really far and even like that it would be painful to find them. The bad frames don't go for very long, that's why i have trouble finding them, in fact the only way to really spot them is by watching the whole 40minute video without skipping through it.

Well i don't exactly know how to explain the bad frames but the picture gets all pixelated and screwed up.
Hi,

I was wondering if Powerdirector can spot bad frames in a video file? i have a video file that has some bad frames but they are hard to spot, i need something that will automatically find them, that way i can edit/delete them.

Thank you
Erhan
