I'm still not sure about this:
I used the Intel driver update for the 4600 and it gave me the HD Graphics update.10/23/2014
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24329/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64-bit
I then found the newer Iris Pro Driver and installed it and have had no problems since using PDR 13.05/29/2015
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24964/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64-bit
Both include the 4600 GPU.
I'm still on 8.1 so not sure if it will help on Win 10.
Please check - I also want to move to Win 10.

You can upgrade fom 8.1 leaving all installed programs intact.
Thanks Anubisviech - big relief but experience has taught me that I should wait when it comes to new Windows releases so I'm going to sit back for a few months until I'm sure it's stable - particually if it's "Free".

Hi Neil1234,
Could be several reasons not knowing the resolution of your pics or your PDR13 settings.
I found watching the tutorials a big help to understand the basics. The manual is more for reference than learning.
Try the PDR13 Tutorials here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/40227.page
Also other members have put a lot of effort into tutorials - try http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/41501.page
PDR13 is easy to use but also very powerful so these tutorials have been a big help to me - as have the forum members.
Enjoy your editing

Is there a way to read the hilight tags when importing video shot with GoPro?
I'm using a Hero3+ Blk Ed and import GoPro clips directly into PDR13 (don't use GoPro Editor)but didn't know anout the tags. How do you want to use them?
Thanks

Will Win 10 Upgrade require us to re-install all app software including PDR13 - I'm using 8.1??
I normally do a clean install for new windows releases. A real pain in the ***.

Thanks Paul -
That's what confused me. I thought your Intel update might have updated your Intel 4600 onboard GPU driver resulting in smoother playback. I wonder why the Intel update made a difference to your GTX970?
Thanks

Are you using the Intel 4600 GPU or your GTX970?

Thanks for all your help and replies!
I will install a Blu-ray burner and report back.
But is part of the "problem" with DVD playback quality down to the encoding codec used? That is, a superior codec will yield superior results? I'm a complete novice when it comes to video editing but shouldn't a DVD authoring piece of software allow you to manipulate for example, the bitrate?
If you use an external Disk burning software you can produce a High bitrate Mpeg-2 video, then using external burner software produce about 10 Megabit DVD Video disk.
In Powerdirector 12, I made a custom Mpeg-2 720x480/60i at 9.8Megabits Profile to use for making High bitrate DVD Videos. I use my Nero Burning ROM software to burn the DVD Video.
Thanks Carl - that expalins my problems too.
Interesting that PDR13 can't write same 9.8Mb quality as cheaper and even free software does (I assume ImgBurn can as well).
We should ask Cyberlink to fix their software instead of using 3rd party to do it correctly.
DVD's are still the easiest way to distribute vids for home viewing and we all want the best quality possible.
May not be relevant but I have found that if I render vids to MPEG2 first and then import rendered file into PDR13 and Create Disk my DVD quality is definately better than Create Disk from original timeline- but I have no idea why.
Any idea what PDR13 is giving us on AVCHD and BLURAY? As good as Nero?
Thanks again
Al

My experience is same as Barry's. I had a lot of DVD quality issues using Create Disk. Render first to DVD quality then Create DVD by adding rendered files and you can still add chapters. Many have argued this both ways on the forum, but I have found a big quality improvement if you render first.

Thanks tomasc that will work if we have a direct link for the download file.

Dafydd
Can you post the "how to" for the rest of us. I have also struggled with Update needing five or more attempts before successful download - very frustrating when you have a slow internet connection.
Thanks

Jeff
When I D/loaded your 3x3 PD said it was 30 Fps so I wasn't sure if I should change my settings to 60 Fps to render 60i. I left it at 30Fps NTSC and rendered to H.264 1920x1080/60i 24Mbps NTSC. (I'm a PAL user).
My render took a pathetic 21 min - (vs 1:50 for the 20XBoats - which looked OK compared to other posted results). I didn't see in your post if your Produce setting for H.264 were M2TS, Mp4, or MKV so I assumed M2TS. Any ideas why my render time was 10x longer than others? My CPU ran at 60-70% and my GPU 90% (attached). When I Produce or Create Disc I must choose between x.v.Color or Quick Sync - why, and what is the difference?
I'm amazed that a 1 min vid can take 21 min to render. GGRussell got 2:59 - but Jeff got GTX970 HA encode time: 11:34 GTX970 HA encode time: 3:37 GTX970 with OpenCL for video effects activated. Is it because OpenCL is not supported on my GPU. I was happy with my PC until this test!
I'm not sure what you mean by a 3x3 Wall. My timeline shows 5xBoats.m2ts on 9 tracks with effects.

PROBLEM FIXED! Thanks Jeff- I hate playing with the Registry but took your advice from the link above. Support should put you on their payroll! I found two problems. (see attached) I changed them to zero - ran PDR13 BOATS and it rendered my MTS with Quick Sync perfectly!
I went back to support and they confirmed your solution (attached). Maybe Dafydd Bevan - SoftDeko could add this solution in a locked post on the forum. It saves users from playing with REGEDIT.

Thanks Jeff and tomac.
My bios update was from
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/69045/Intel-Desktop-Board-DH87MC for Win 8.1 64.
My old bios which came with the board was ver 0152 dated 11/04/2013. I updated to ver 0158 09/12/2014. I downloaded and ran the .EXE version. It ran, rebooted, and said bios updated sucessfully. Everything is running fine including PDR13 except I lost the Quick Sync acceleration for MTS files.
Intel doesn't make life easy. Using their "Driver Update Utility" my M/Board's latest GPU driver 10.18.10.3496 3/27/2014 (same as tomac's link above) but the Utility ignores the CPU. The Haswell board supports a range of CPU's from Celeron to Xenon (with no graphics). My i5 4670 CPU has the 4600 on-board GPU. After digging around the Intel website I found:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=4th+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+4600
This is the Graphics driver (Iris) for my CPU graphics which is different from the latest Graphics driver for the M/Board. The IRIS driver is 15.36.19.64.4170 dated 4/10/2015. This is the driver I had installed prior to the BIOS update and which I re-installed after I found MTS was not working but still got the same error which makes me think the BIOS update caused the problem.

New Problem
Don't know if anyone can help but after running the MTS test above I was browsing the Intel website.
I ran the test and posted my render time on the forum. I then updated my mother board BIOS from the Intel website. Everything ran OK. I then went back to PDR13 and rendered the same project to MTS and got the error I have attached. The Intel Quick Sync suddenly stopped working. I rendered again using the same project and Quick Sync and it ran fine for H.264 MP4 but will not work for MTS.
Why has Quick Sync suddenly stopped working for MTS. Please check my BIOS and Intel Graphics driver and tell me if I need to change. I cannot understand why this problem has suddenly occurred when it has been working fine until now.
I submitted the problem to Support and they simply said "turn off Quick Sync" and my render time goes from 1:54 to 3:51.
I re-installed my GPU driver but same problem.
Thanks
Al

Just found something interesting.
A joint Intel/Cyberlink presentation on how Cyberlink has been working with Intel to optimize Graphics performance on PDR12&13.
http://intelstudios.edgesuite.net/idf/2014/sf/aep/GVCS003/GVCS003.html
Cyberlink presentation starts from about 32 min
It looks like PDR13 has been developed to work with Intel Iris Graphics - further adding to the question of what (if any) expensive GPU card is best for satisfactory PDR13 performance.

Just a quick correction AIS.
My result 1:47 is CPU's only (I have an AMD Radeon HD 5450 GPU - that is not in play since HE is off)
I would like to see someone post the results for the GTX960 to see how compares to the GTX970 of JL_JL above.
My mistake, sorry - I corrected my post. Thanks, Al

OH yeah, the Intel HD4600 is much faster (at least rendering MP4) than my ATI card and have considered removing it.
Thanks would be interesting to see what impact the newer Intel 5000 & 6000 GPU's might have on PDR13.
My 20 x Boats H.264 1920x1080/60i 24Mbps with my little i5 CPU and Intel 4600 graphics took 1:54
Tried again with Intel Quick Sync Vid off and got - 3:51

Your 1150 is NOT obsolete, I think I may have not really thought out my wording. I meant to say that you won't see as significant of an increase between an i5 and an i7 as what you saw moving to an SSD - the heavy storage reliance of video editing makes the perceptible feel much more biased towards storage upgrades.
Also, although you can't go for the massive amounts of additional cores that the 2011-v3 socket will allow, the new Skylake (not released quite yet) CPUs are also LGA1150, and while they don't look like they will see huge performance gains over Haswell, they do gain some efficiency. And you will see a difference moving to an i7, as I said, just not night-and-day like changing your storage media.
Just really, really don't get an nVidia card for rendering performance, even in software (like Premier) that supports it - nVidia's CUDA codecs can be really horrendous in terms of quality. Using OpenCL on nVidia cards yields better quality, but is not nearly as speedy or as well optimized as AMD GPUs.
If one plans on using a computer for ones work or hobby, it behooves one to know at least keep on top of PC hardware. I recommend something like the Linustechtips youtube channel for quick and easy to digest tech knowledge that will stick in your brain and keep you informed of the general specs you will need for whatever PC you happen to require.
Cheers!
Thanks I appreciate the tips including RAM drive. I can't keep up with the hardware world so I appreciate your advice. My Haswell scoket 1150 confusion comes from trying to find my way around the Intel website. In terms of my upgrade path it is currently limited to the Haswell range.
http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=dh87mc
The newer i7s (6&8 core) are Haswell-E which is not 1150. But they include more powerful GPU (All the above are limited to the 4600 GPU - but other i7s go up to the 6100 gpu)
Skylake looks like it will be socket 1151 - then there is Cannonlake maybe next year.
As far as I can tell the Broadwell series due this year are also socket 1150.
Socket 1150 upgrades still appear to be limited but I may be wrong so would appreciate any other advice you might have.
